Is there anything that blocks your IP when downloading torrents?
I have gotten 2 letters from movie studios so far about me illegally downloading movies from torrents and so I want this to like stop and stuff. Is there something I can do to block them from viewing my IP address when I am downloading shit? I use uTorrent btw.

Create a proxy IP address, UTorrent can redirect it to your actual IP, and as far as I know cant get past the proxy (fake)

Note: PeerGuardian 2 does not support Windows Vista at the moment. This is a top priority, and we hope to have a Vista download soon.

What are they claiming in the letters? If they are claiming to sue you what damages can really be sought? I would assume they could only sue you for the cost of the movie, however you may be able to "well I would have just rented it for 5 dollars."
I recently had a police officer at my house who made fun of my mother because she bought songs of iTunes, rather than download them illegally. I dunno, I just thought that was hilarious and wanted to point that out. (Incase you where curious why a cop was in my house talking iTunes, somebody stole my Mom's iPod and she was worried she would lose the songs she bought - not really computer savvy) |

Well, it was actually a letter from my ISP saying that the movie studio contacted them asking them to "take appropriate action" against me. They just told me that they were required to let me know about it and that they might have to give my info out if asked, and that they might be forced to cancel my service if they keep getting complaints.

you can encrypt shit on utorrent, you silly bastard. that means your ISP won't have a clue what you're downloading, and thus i guess neither will the movie studios.

There is an option for "Protocal Encryption" under the Network settings. Just change it to enabled.
It's main use is to fight ISP throttling but anyone who has the option of it should have it checked. This won't stop you from getting letters though. The movie studios get your IP because they are monitoring the files, not your download/upload streams. So they will still get your IP and they will still contact your ISP. You need something like PeerGuardian2 which tries and filters out seeders/leechers themselves. But definitely enable your encryption just in case your ISP is slowing your torrent speeds. |

Yeh I use Peer Guardian. Wasn't sure if the encryption would be some added protection or not...
