Vel eats his crow.

No excuses, out played, out coached, call it a choke if you want, I just don't feel that gives the Giants proper credit for how they played, Upset would be the correct name, not choke.

I didn't give that DL enough credit at all.

was 17-0 regular season nice, sure... but it means nothing w/o the championship.

Its like (speaking of "big chokes" I mean upsets) 2004 ALCS, it was nice to beat the Yankees but had the sox lost the World Series it meant nothing.

Yeah, we were AFC champions, that was nice, but 2nd place is first looser (yes RP, that makes the colts somewhere between 4th and 7th looser ).

You have to rank this as one of the biggest upsets in my lifetime, along with 2004 ALCS, Buster Douglas v. Tyson are the other two that come to mind along with the 2001 Rams... probably a bunch of NCAA stuff I can't think of.

seriously though, out coached, out played, no excuses what a great game to watch and I tip my hat (well, if I was wearing one) to the Giants and there fans.

I cant think of a bigger upset. I really cant. I mean, ESPN ran a week long special comparing the Pats to the best teams ever and said that they would beat all of them. LOL@ ESPN.

If that's your opinion then alright. The Patriots weren't even the biggest favorites, or the first team to lose the championship game after going undefeated. I don't really care though if it was or wasn't, either way the Patriots lost the game which blows.

I knew they were going to lose as soon as they showed that clip of Terry Bradshaw interviewing Tom Brady, being so cutesy and smirking about how great it is going to be with the likes of Joe Montana and Terry Bradshaw in the "Mount Rushmore" of four Super Bowl winning quarterbacks.

They turned into an extremely arrogant franchise, which is a shame, because that first Super Bowl win of theirs was probably the greatest NFL underdog story ever. I believe the Giant win tonight dethrones the Patriots of that title, though.

Patriots apply for trademarks on 19-0

According to the New York Post the New England Patriots are suffering from premature exhilaration.

The arrogant New England team has already applied for trademarks on "19-0" and "19-0 The Perfect Season." Three days before they beat the San Diego Chargers, and more than two weeks before Super Bowl XLII, the team egotistically filed paperwork with the US Patent and Trademark Office to cash in on sales of T-shirts, caps, posters and all kinds of Pats paraphernalia.

The Post, ever confident that Eli Manning and company will squash the Pats on Sunday, spent $375 for its own trademark application Thursday — on "18-1."

RP, you're only calling it the biggest choke because you hate the Patriots.

"Who last won a super bowl" well, if you want to count the past who has more super bowl wins? Really, you're just being silly because we can deal w/ a loss and don't go run and hide from an internet posting forum because we couldn't deal with it.

Did you ever post even mentioning the Charges game after it happened?

as for the Trademarks I posted about that a few days ago, it's nothing new, most teams jump ahead to protect trade marks just in case otherwise they'd be screwed, it's just like both teams had already planned parade routes "just in case".

Anyway, it's over, the Pats lost, the Giants won... let them enjoy it, they earned it... and the draft talk can begin in a few weeks.

The reason it's an upset and not a choke is simple, the Pats played well and got out played.

Now, had the Pats gone out and Brady thrown 5 INT's or they fumbled the ball a bunch or gave up 40points and got blown out... that's a choke.

This was an upset, a huge upset but biggest of all time? Wasn't the spread for the Rams game bigger?

espn has a poll for biggest upsets.

http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/sports...Id=1&listId=89

some interesting choices.

VEL if it mattered how many Superbowls you've won, you're team wouldnt be in the argument. Because theres like 3 or 4 teams that have won 4 Superbowls. So with your logic, all the Steelers and 49ers and Cowboys fans should be coming on this board telling you how much your team sucks compared to theres. STFU about how many you've won cause you havent won one in like 5 years. Your team has been owned by a Manning the last two. In the words of Antonio Pierce, " Write that book ! " .

Also, you obviously have no clue what a choke is. The point spread of a single game means nothing in this case. The Patriots were considered the best team of all time. " THEYYYYYYYYYYYY " " WANTEDDDDDDDDDDD " to win every single game. They wanted to blow every team out. They wanted to be 19-0. That was the goal. They were annointed to best team ever. And they got to the Superbowl needing to win one game to complete the 19-0 season and they.................................CHOKED. Thats called a choke VEL. Maybe its an upset, but it doesnt matter, cause more importantly, it was a CHOKE. That offensive line that was the best ever, got dominated. Brady, the best QB ever, got rattled big time. He had happy feet. Turned the ball over twice. Overthrew atleast 5 wide open recievers in crucial moments of drives. Samuel dropped like 2 sure INTS.

YOUR TEAM CHOKED. If you cant understand that this is one of the hugest choke jobs, then my friend, you're just plain retarded and theres nothing that can be done for you. I cant believe I of all people have to tell you about a choke. Seeing as how, if Manning loses one game thats not even near these circumstances, you guys were the first to call it a choke. Hilarious. You're very very very dumb if you cant see that this is the biggest choke ever. lol

And whats the Chargers game have to do with anything? We got beat. OMGZ it really matters right? Colts werent 18-0 btw. Colts werent even the favorites to win the Superbowl. I didnt post cause i didnt feel like it. Do you want a cookie for posting? Your team choked. There officially the biggest choke artist in the history of football. 18-1. No title. Chew on that, Fan of Biggest Choking Team Ever.

hmm. not sure where to start, but I usually don't when RP spazzes out.

I should first probably correct him that Brady turned it over once... 1 fumble, 1 giant recovery...

I should probably also question the whole "they wanted to go undefeated"... So, you're saying other teams don't? Really, so which teams go into a sunday with the goal of not winning?

See, RP just doesn't understand the difference between an upset and a choke.

But really, whatever helps him cope w/ not making the superbowl this year or even the AFC championship game this year and getting beat at home is fine... I'll help humor him.

I know they lost, they got out played and out coached, I love the story that Gilbride "saw something" and drew up one of the TD plays on a board on the sideline... that's great and I really give him credit for that.

See ya next year RP, I'd say see you in Foxboro in the playoffs, but you'll get knocked off at home before you make it that far.

Yep, he went on the field like everyone else because the clock said 0 and they hadn't put the second back on, he shook hands with couglin and went off the field... as he was almost off the field they put a second back on.

but whatever makes you feel better... really, it's ok... we all understand you by now.

See, RP just doesn't understand the difference between an upset and a choke.

Couple Points:

1) Although I'm glad that the Patriots' arrogance lead to their downfall, I do NOT believe that this was a choke job. The Pats, while they didn't play great, didn't play bad either. I thought they were fairly solid for the most part. The Giants on the other hand, have been playing at a high level for a number of weeks now. They almost beat the Pats in week 17, and defeated some pretty good teams in the post-season (i.e. Cowboys, Green Bay, etc.).

Dare I say - the Patriots lost to a team DESPITE them not playing all that badly.

2) Bellicheck (sp?) KNEW what he was doing when he walked off the field (despite the ref's telling him that the time hadn't expired). Watch the tapes. What a classless piece of garbage.

RP Why are you so happy about this though? I mean, yeah I would be pretty happy if the Colts just lost the Superbowl but I wouldn't be going nuts like the Patriots just won it or something. I'd still realize that my favorite team, the Patriots, weren't walking away with the trophy

I think people on here have to understand that Rectal Pertruder (Conebone69)
has gone through some emotionally traumatic times over the past 6-7 years or so.

It's not easy to watch your favorite team (in this case, the Colts) be defeated constantly by a superior rival. Given how much RP lives vicariously through the Indianopolis Colts (his only source of happiness in life?), these emotions are further amplified.

So from that perspective - I can understand why RP would derive just as much pleasure in seeing the Pats lose, as he would in seeing the Colts win.

I think the 1980 Miracle on Ice is probably the biggest upset I can think of. I would have to say that Superbowl 42 is going to be top 5, if not top 10 in that category though. Either way it was a hell of a game, even in the waning seconds when the Pats threw a couple prayers up, you know there was always that possibility. Theres nothing anyone can really say though that will ever tarnish this for me, from a personal perspective. I've enjoyed this season, and I'll hold on to it forever.

Jets over the Colts in the Superbowl 3 is the biggest upset ever in football, if you know anything about the history of the NFL you can't really argue this (Without this upset, who knows if the NFL would have ever even formed)

This was a pretty big upset though, if you consider how average the Giants played all the season compared to the Patriots. Giants where able to turn it on for the playoffs tho, all that really matters once you get in.

yeah, Miracle on Ice is probably tops, but this is top 10, maybe top 5 in my lifetime.

That being said the end was great to watch... 35 seconds left, 3 time outs, all you need is a FG to tie and you're getting a kick-off.

Great stop by Zach Deossie on the kick-off and then that sack of brady wasting a time out forcing brady to put up a 75yd prayer to moss (which had Moss been a step or two slower might have worked, instead was 2-3yds short).

Gonzo - enjoy, great win and you deserve it.

Yeah Superbowl III is probably the top football upset of all time, I would agree with that. I've seen that game in its entirety like 3 or 4 times though, and it is played out. I think eventually this game will get that kind of media attention years down the road, but who knows.

Transcending all sports though, Miracle on Ice. Not only for the outcome of the actual game, but for the implications socially and politically as well.

While I am biased, I would put the Patriots over the Rams ahead of this upset as well. Rams weren't undefeated at the time though, so I can see people making a bigger deal out of this one.

We should've said that the Giants deserved it the second we saw Eli to Tuman in that final drive. How in the blue FUCK did THAT play NOT turn disastrous?

And since you brought up the draft, VEL, the Pats DID lose a draft pick because of that whole spygate thing. How do you think that will hurt them next year with all the moving around of players that could happen?

It was a straight up choke job. The pressure of winning that 4th Super Bowl combined with the pressure of trying to go 19-0 finally caught up with them.

Mind you, the Pats, while being the best team overall this year sans their Super Bowl humiliation, were entirely overrared, IMO. Hell, the Baltimore freaking Ravens had them whooped until the last 2 mins of that game when bad coaching and penalties lost it for them.

Either way, the Giants played their asses off and pulled a miracle out of the hat. If the Pats would have brought even their C-game they should have completely dominated NY; but the only thing they brought as far as I saw was arrogance.
