SmackDown! vs Raw 2009 (Wishlist - Not Official Thread)
Its about this time of year (give or take a month or two) that THQ will announce the next SvR in some overblown press release with vague discriptions of new features for the 2009 model. Though official SvR threads are handled yearly by another poster, this thread is all about what I want in 2009... be it new features or fixes.
DLC: Yeah, I mentioned this before; the next SvR should be DLC enabled for roster/theme music/brand affiliation/move updates when needed. I understand that roster changes occur in the WWE every other week, which explains some of the issues we've had with the final playable rosters of the last couple of SvRs. This would solve alot of the frustrations related to outdated rosters. Imagine Y2J making a jump to SmackDown! with new music and being able to update your game accordingly a month later. Also, I believe a month is a decent enough development time to ready any updates needed. Attire, however, would be a waste of time. I'd totally be down with excluding updates like that. Roster: Something else I've stated before; an open vote on WWE and THQ websites should be used as guidelines when deciding the final roster. The results shouldn't have to dictate the decisions completely, but it damn sure should get the people in charge to understand the weight of their choices better. This should improve satisfaction across the board (though the political exclusions will still remain). CAW Space: Why on Earth can't I have as many CAWs as my HDD can allow? I assume it has something to do with loading, and it would be easier to load from a preset space than a hardrive (just a guess). If that is the case, atleast double those preset slots. CAW Options: I don't know who they're catering to with the DBZ Scouters, but the time for shit like has to stop. I have no problem with the occasional 'wacky mask', but the otherworldly stuff can be replaced with more likely choice items. Freddy claws? C'mon... Camera Angles: The reason I've been turning off camera angles the last 8 years is because they are always damn stupid. They take me out of the illusion of the match, which in turn reminds me that I'm playing a videogame (which I actually hate). If they want to impress me, I suggest they review Raw 2's camera breaks and notice how they keep to the real life arena shots during the moves. Points if the new shots are actually from the ring-side camera men (see below). PS3's craptastic exclusive first person feature atleast shows they have a semblance of how that could work. And for God's sake... WWE TV has all the reference material needed for something like this. I could choose key dramatic angles off one session of Raw. Ring Side Camera Men: Two or three camera-men running around during a match would add alot to the experience. The number of wrestlers or the type of match could determine the final number of camera-men if stream quality is an issue. But a singles match should allow a solid three generic looking camera-men during a match. One of the main reasons I'd love this is because of the eventual 'mistake' that would occur during a high impact move. Imagine HBK hopping over the top rope in a senton only to miss and land on a camera-man, knocking him out for a bit. A replay from the camera-man's view would be mandatory. Grabing the camera from a dude and using it as a weapon would be a neat side feature to that as well, if DQs your sort of thing. Dashing About: I'm used to the new Run button placement (I don't love it, though). But I find that dashing directly behind yourself is near impossible. What I used to do was Irish Whip a guy to the ropes and I go the other direction. We both bounce off the ropes on opposite ends of the ring and collide for whatever move I wanna see at the moment. A simple flashy set of actions I could not replicate in the current SvR because of the new quasi-anologue Run mechanic. This could be fixed by double-tapping the Run button for quick 180dashes. SS Armbar... Meh: The Struggle Submission system has failed. The old submission meter from years prior was perfectly fine. And if you couldn't have every submission an SS why even have the system in place? Have you any idea how gay it is to lock in the Tazzmission for no reason at all?!? If the system's gonna stay, atleast make escape easier. How about the guy locking the submission hold the right stick in a direction while the other guy tries to locate that point to struggle out of the hold? This would make the submission a game of keep-away as the reciever chases the holders point of hold. It would work in the way you pick locks in Splinter Cell of win a Ladder Match in SvR, except someone is choosing the 'unlock area' in real time. For balance, the guy applying the hold can't just wiggle the stick in new areas every second to keep the reciever at bay, as the submission would be having no pressure applied. Fair, yes? More to come. |

I noticed it doesn't seem to matter if you win or lose you matches, the story line continues on the route regardless. I would like to see that change. It is confusing when the first fued you are in is for the #1 contendership, you win every match only to be tossed into a fued with Carlito and Nitro. That and when it gives you a desision to make, no matter what it is the same outcome. That is retarded.

A good game.
Oh and I've given up on Londrick being in a WWE game simply because if they weren't getting into a game when they were champs, they defiantly won't be now with them jobbing all the time. |

Where should I start?
The fighting engine itself along with how the matches are played need a lot of work. It seems that with every good thing they add they'll add 2-3 bad items. Example in case would be the Ultimate Control system or whatever it's called. More interaction with the arena was a great idea. However the way in which they tweaked the submission system not so good. Taking away the ability to manually select who you are viewing borders on retarded. I haven't played any of the other WWE Games since Attitude/Warzone so I can't say what they should/shouldn't have from Raw or DOR. However I've seen it mentioned many times on here that they should implement features from these games so maybe it's time they took a look at the plus points of them. Secondly change the presentation. A more TV style presentaion would seriously help make this game look and feel a lot better. As long as it doesn't hinder the gameplay then start introducing things like the split replays. The cameramen around the side of the ring would not only make it feel more like a show but would also provide a new source for a weapon as someone has mentioned. The biggest one in terms of presentation though would have to be commentary. If they want to make it feel more like a WWE show then it'll have to be in there. Problem is that every year it's the same damn lines and it's completely awful. Now commentary in games is rarely what I'd call good but the commentary in WWE games breaks new boundries of awful. It's not quite on the level of "the ROCK has a really powerful ROCK BOTTOM" of Smackdown 3 fame but it is still bad. It wouldn't hurt to reintroduce backstage areas again, I mean the ability to travel all over the Arena was one of my favourite things about the Smackdown games. Why they removed it I don't know. Sheer laziness on the part of the developers. Thirdly the Roster. Nothing I can say here that hasn't already been said really. Put up fan polls, take more notice of wishlists. For people who don't make the cut make an effort to at least include some parts in CAW Mode. Which now brings us onto.... Creation, again not much here I can really add that people already haven't said but give us more choice in CAW mode. Allow us to make our CAWs feel more like real superstars. Give us better choice in clothing stop with the 15 varieties of tie die and wacky sunglasses. We don't give a shit about them. New season mode. First of all get rid of voice overs in season mode, they're crap and annoying. I can't really remember the game it was from but I seem to remember a season mode from a few games ago in which you would interact with the wrestlers and depending on what you said you'd gain or lose points or have to face them because you pissed them off. Something like that again. A very simple path system for the season mode would not only prolong it but keep it fresh for the players. Don't just place us in scenarios we don't care about, we're sick of having to team up with Carlito to face two random people only to have to fight a fatal 4 way match at the next PPV for the right to acquire a manager. We need the option to do that. Allow us to build our own feuds and choose our own path. Heel or Face, Smackdown or Raw, Mid Card Title or Upper Card title, Tag Team or Single. Just simple things like this would help improve it so much. One other thing about this style of season mode is it'd mean less work to implement something i'm sure THQ/Yukes would really appreciate given the state of the game at the moment. |

All else that everyone else has said, one more thing that we need:
CUSTOM THEMES!! For the love of GOD, there's no excuse this time. They've basically been able to make it for the 360 for the longest time, and as for the PS3, they sent that dev kit that gave them the option to include it last AUGUST!! And MLB 08 is already out of the box with the option. Surely you can prove to us that you're not just lazy. |

Therefore, let me try this: I hope we get the most restrictive CAW system EVER in the game, one theme (which would happen to be Cena's), the most basic of match types, a season mode that makes no fucking sense, for the controls to be the way of WWF Attitude.... ...oh fuck it, just make a carbon copy of the Backyard Wrestling games. ![]() Okay, now let's see if that will make them actually do the opposite. |

The PS3 Version got a brilliant exclusive in that you could view your entrances in first person as opposed to getting the Custom Themes though because everyone wants to view entrances in first person... ![]() As a 360 owner I'm glad the 360 did get the Custom Themes but I don't see why the PS3 didn't. |

Here's my list of things I want, that won't happen.
QUIT TAKING AWAY MOVES! And fucking put the old moves you removed back in, and reanimate them when needed. There are moves that were taken out for no reason over the years (Regal Stretch, RVD's kick combo, the spinning choke bomb, rolling elbow combo, etc, etc, etc.) On a similar note, quit restricting CAW movelists. Tell you what. If I want my guys to have "realistic" movesets, I'll give them to them myself. The categories they break them down into are ridiculous. And give us back 4 grapples.... I don't mind the ultimate control crap, but don't take stuff away for it... Give us one UC move from the front, one from the back. Making striking mean something, and make it less annoying. The reaction to most strikes in the game are annoying, and there is no real punishment for abusing them. Slow them down a bit, make certain strikes stronger (ala, a punch shouldn't have the same effect as a jumping kick to the face.) and make the countering for strikes better ( think the KOC games). Instead of setting up a counter system that leads to constant counters for strikes, make striking counters more harmful. In KOC, you can counter punches into pins, arm bars, grapples, etc. Kicks can be done the same way. In fact, improve the counter system all around. Make it more skilled, and give moves specific counters. And give weight classes different counters too. Imagine how much more awesome the game would be if you could reverse a german suplex into a quick rollup sometimes, instead of a stupid elbow over and over again. Fuck it, just give the next game KOC's system, stick with the smackdown graphics, add in a sweet ass CAW, and give it FPR's level of customization... Seriously. FPR is unrivaled in customization, and I LOVE KOC's system. It's the only game where I've actually marked out for things that have happened in a match that I was playing. |

A point made on the counters, maybe it is because I'm terrible at fighting games so never really master this sort of thing but I find i'm more successful in SVR countering by simply just hammering the counter button. Is there ever a perfect time to press it or is it just purely luck?
It just seems to be that even when I try to get it via timing its just luck based. |

Pretty much everything I'd suggest has already been said. I've been a loyal supporter of the SD series...but SVR08 was just too much for me. I thought I would always buy the game no matter what, but after seeing the horrid roster, the shitty 24/7 mode (GET RID OF VO), and most importantly the fact that the gameplay had barely changed, I couldn't find myself to buy it. In fact, I still haven't played it even once...and I probably won't until TNA Impact comes out and I just give both a rent for the hell of it.
It's hard to be optimistic about SVR09. Last year, after ALL of the complaints about the roster, far more than there ever had been, it would seem hard to fathom that they wouldn't correct that and give us a much better updated roster...but sadly I can see it. I do, however, think we'll be getting DLC this year, but the roster will probably still suck and they'll charge a ton. Oh well, at least I can be confident that Chris Jericho will be making his return to the SD series. ![]() |

As big a roster as possible (maybe even ditching all legends in favour of current guys) and the return of an updated PPV mode (all I do once i complete the game). As simple as it is, I have not played the game at all this year because of a lack of wrestlers and no PPV mode

Tried the demo and hated just about everything about it. The rope running system was clearly especially fucked. Honestly, though, haven't stopped playing Fire Pro since release. It's sad when a 2+ year old 2D game can out-preform the newest and "greatest" games. Really, I've played it more than any other WWE release aside from possibly HCTP and haven't even seen/used everything there is in the game yet. Last edited by Xero; 03-20-2008 at 02:42 PM. |

That and CAW seems to get worse every year, not better. Well, there's a ton of problems I can add, but CAW really annoys me. I wouldn't mind a small roster if I could readily create characters who looked something like the real thing. That way I could include missing wrestlers, legends I wanted and so on without any regard. The fact that the CAWs take a shitload of work to look even halfway human means that I can't readily do so. I don't mind so much with my own characters, the guys me and friends have put together over the years, but if I want to include Chris Benoit or Hulk Hogan, it shouldn't take me four hours to make the CAW. And then, there's the limit on CAW slots. Which means if I want a larger roster, I have to be fairly choosy. I mean, over the course of a year, I tend to make a lot of CAWs. Some are just to fill out my roster, some are because of some wrestler I love, and some are just fun. 30-ish slots isn't enough, and I have a 120GB HDD. Why should I be limited? And, of course, I don't know if this is true with the current game, but I hate the number of parts being so limited. And movesets. Every time I've bought a new game, I've found myself let down by the fact that new moves came at the expense of stripping old ones, and online seems to have crippled both moves and parts. I mean, I play as the real wrestlers quite often, but CAW has a pretty big impact on the appeal of a game. It's up there with gameplay, and this post is already longer than my usual, so I'll skip talking about most of my gameplay issues. |
