I'm trying to download the original and/or the best version of this song. Only problem is I can't figure out who sings the original. Anyone happen to know who sings the original, or any opinions on which is best?

Upon closer inspection, Fred Neil did the original. Nilsson is probably the best known cover.

A good way to find these things is to actually check ascaap. They tend to have the songs' credit there.
