Removing Paint from a Championship Belt
Not sure if this is the right forum, but...
So I bought this championship belt today from a friend for $30. It's one of the WWE Undisputed Championship belts. However, it had been used as the World Championship for another federation called NWS (and was told both Candido and Matt Striker held it). Because it was suppose to be some promotions championship, they decided to paint over it silver and black to make it look different.... ![]() Honestly, it looks bad, so I'm going to restore it. Anyone know a way I could remove the paint from these belt plates without ruining them? |

What kind of paint did they use, oil or latex?

Even ECW could afford better looking belts.

Custom belts can cost over $1000. Not many promotions are willing to place so much money on a fake championship, which is a common mistake. I've known many feds that have used the WCW Heavyweight Championship replicas because it lacked a logo and was big.
ECW was a promotion on the rise and took recognition in the fact that they needed real title belts. Some other small promotions take that step too, but usually can only afford small belts. |

I remember Luger and other WCW guys washing the nWo paint off with champagne. Might work.

If it is latex pait paint you just have to pick it off, I forget if there is any solvents that will remove latex. If you can remove the plates from the belt, I would suggest trying to dip them in paint thinner for a minute an see if that start anything.

I was thinking of doing that, but wasn't sure if it would mess up the plate. Any chance you know if it would be safe enough?

Start with using some turpentine (sp?) or white spirit

I would say he's lying, but I saw Candido wrestling for this small time promotion on a baseball field doing a Family Day Fair. A matter of fact, the friend who sold me the belt was ref for the match.
So there is a good chance Candido did hold this disgrace of a championship belt. |

Pour brake fluid over it. That will strip the paint in a heartbeat.

Unless the plate is made of styrofoam or paint, paint thinner isn't going to hurt it.

Thanks alot man.
One more stupid question though...idiots also painted the leather belt to hide sections with the WWE logo. Think there is a safe way to remove paint from that as well? |
