I remember reading an article a few months back in which Austin stated he could return to the ring for another two years if he felt the need to. Selfishly, part of me hopes Austin feels the need one day.

I'm a huge Austin mark myself but I'll admit that IF he were to make a full-time return (which is slim-to-none at the moment) they would need to completely reinvent the Stone Cold character. All of its incarnations have run their courses (Austin 3:16, "What", the "Hogan-Esq Appearances", etc).

Hmm, I don't know. Austin dressing down John Cena with one of his "you think you're cute with your John Cena hat *what* your John Cena shirt *what* your John Cena wristband *what* your John Cena g-string *what*" promos could be pretty fun. Austin just schooling John Cena on how to be a real "Ruck Fules" babyface would be a lot of fun.

Come to think of it, Austin being his usual self against the current faces on the roster (technically making him a heel, I guess), would get him so fantastically over as a face.

Austin's heel turn at WrestleMania X-7 was brilliant. It made perfect sense, and I remember being so shocked, because I was still new to the WWE at the time, and I could not fathom Austin (who was the most popular guy in professional wrestling as far as I was concerned) was now a bad guy.

They really needed The Rock to stick around and get revenge on him, though. Or Triple H to turn face as hinted, because both those guys would have really made great foils for a heel Austin. The Undertaker also made sense a logical challenger, and the WWE did go somewhere with that, but yeah. I think people were really interested in the idea of heel WWF Champion Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. face WCW Champion Booker T, too.

The heel turn was initially great, and although Austin playing Vince songs on the guitar was great, I think the whole "Paranoid Rattlesnake" (as awesome as Austin played it) was too extreme down the path of cowardice for Stone Cold. He should have just remained Stone Cold, but now buddies with Vince and with top faces gunning for his head.

If Austin were to come back I'd love for him to use some of his ECW styled promos on Cena. Keep his WWF/E personality, but rip the shit out of Cena.

I happy that Austin stepped out of the ring when he did (just not the way he did it). If he were to come back he would need to re-invent himself a little bit. He could come back all pissed off at the current product... and with guys like Cena saying he's the G rated version of Stone Cold. Basically all the things we've been saying for years. There's no way he could be a heel, so he'd have to feud with Kennedy, Edge, Cena, and even CM Punk (he'd need to turn heel with his staight edge gimmick).
