QUESTION - Are Detroit, Colorado, and San Jose all susceptible for 1st round loses?
Are Detroit, Colorado, and San Jose all susceptible for 1st round loses?
1 DETROIT* 70 41 17 10 2 94 221 155 27-5-4-0 14-12-6-2 7-1-2-0 2 COLORADO* 71 37 17 12 5 91 214 169 17-13-5-1 20-4-7-4 4-3-2-1 3 SAN JOSE* 71 35 19 11 6 87 184 158 20-6-7-2 15-13-4-4 6-3-0-1 4 VANCOUVER 72 37 22 9 4 87 205 173 17-12-6-0 20-10-3-4 5-3-2-0 5 DALLAS 71 35 24 12 0 82 162 154 23-6-7-0 12-18-5-0 6-2-2-0 6 CALGARY 71 35 26 7 3 80 176 159 18-12-5-1 17-14-2-2 5-3-2-0 7 NASHVILLE 71 33 26 10 2 78 187 189 21-8-7-1 12-18-3-1 3-4-3-0 8 ST LOUIS Take a look at the Wings and the Avs. The Wings have completely dominated at home, while the Avs have been dominant on the road. HOWEVER....both have been VERY average elsewhere. Colorado are only 17-13 at home, while the Wings are only 14-12. San Jose is clearly a far better team on home-ice as well.......as are the Dallas Stars. St. Louis and Nashville also show a clear prefence for one (I didn't copy/paste the St. Louis stats by accident, but I'm right). I guess what I'm trying to ask, is will this make a difference in the playoffs.....to some extent. If it does, then you have to like the Vancouver Canucks' chances in doing well. They are well above .500 on the road and at home. Yes the canucks have lost Todd Bertuzzi, but they also have added Sanderson and Rucinsky. Yes - the canucks no longer have a power forward that can score goals, but they've also ridden themselves of a guy who takes untimely penalties. The Avs, Wings, Sharks, and Stars all have a clear preference on where they like to play. Based on that - I wouldn't be surprised if we saw some upsets this year in the 1st round. I also wouldn't be surprised to see the canucks really come together as a team.....with their fans carrying them through a difficult time. |

I wouldn't take those bottom 4 teams lightly, They've all played really really good hockey and wouldn't be shocked to see detroit, vancouver, colorado all lose in the first round.

Nashville, Dallas and Calgary have three very hot goalies who could very easily beat a team in the playoffs. Its been proven time and time again that a hot goalie can take a low seeded team very deep into the playoffs.

why does everyone think with Bertuzzi gone the canucks don't have shit? honestly if the yanks didn't have Giambi does that mean they're not a world series competitor? what if the sox didn't have pedro? are they a bad team? is there not 23 other guys playing on a team that all suck?

Add to the fact, the canucks no longer have that "sense of complacency". They are insecure right now. That's a GOOD thing. Everyone will step up in the absence of Bertuzzi. That's my take on it. |

The Canucks are still a potentially very dangerous team. |

Rucinsky's a very solid player as well. I still don't understand why almost EVERYONE is looking at this as a negative situation for the canucks. Yes - losing Bertuzzi sucks more penis than Michael Cole, but atleast they were compensated 'adequately' for it. Sanderson and Rucinsky together (+Bergevin) are almost as valuable as Bertuzzi by himself IMO. Also - do you think ANYONE on the canucks is going to be RELAXED from here on out? Hell no. They just lost their co-best player. As a result - EVERYONE will (or should) "step up" to the plate and play better. No one will slack off. |

Every team is susceptible in the first round. If not, why bother having playoffs at all?

In the Western Conference, it looks like the Vancouver Canucks and the Calgary Flames have the most consistent performances HOME and AWAY. Could this 'fact' alone be a sign of things to come? |

I would take the av's to win the west, I've alwasy said I think the canucks aren't gonna win the cup this year, I would look more to the next couple years for them to be very dominant.

i've got my eye on dallas as the sleeper team, they've been playing well lately which is what you want going into the playoffs as well as having all that talent. beyond that though i think the avs will come out of the west but it's far from a sure thing. |

WAKKA WAKKA WAKKA!!!! Seriously - Canucks need to realize that things aren't as bad as they seem. YES - they lost Bertuzzi. HOWEVER - the combined efforts of Sanderson and Rucinsky should be more than enough to replace the offense. YES - they no longer have that power forward, but they also don't have a guy who takes stupid untimely penalties anymore. The canucks also get much added help on defense once again in Jovanoski. You know what they say..............sometimes teams who struggle before the playoffs, are the ones who do the BEST. Sometimes teams who peak right before the playoffs (i.e. Dallas) are the ones who suck the most penis come crunch time. |

![]() p.s. And yes - we are free falling right now. As result - we will avoid playing the hottest team in the NHL (Dallas Stars), and play the Sharks instead. ![]() By this time...........the canucks will be mentally over the loss of Bertuzzi as well. |
