Official Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots thead
I haven't seen a thread for this game yet, so I'll start it.
It's out next month (June 12th), it's PS3 exclusive, will be a VERY huge GOTY candidate, and it's getting VERY hyped right now. And it looks fucking awesome. Hoping this comes out to expectations, too. Info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal_G...f_the_Patriots (Yeah, it's wiki, but it's the only link I could find that gave all known facts about the game at once). The trailer for the game: DISCUSS!! ![]() |

It's from youtube (you know, where everything has to be compressed so fucking much to make it fit on there anymore), so I'm not so sure what was being so expected there. The graphics on GTA4 ended up getting gimped once it was compressed into a YouTube-able video, as well, so that is nothing new for that to happen.
I personally saw another trailer of this at EB Games the other day (yes, I got it reserved), and believe me, it looks awesome. Hopefully you guys aren't just saying this because you're 360 fanboys that really want to slam this game anyway you can because you know this game could be a BIG turning point in the PS3 vs. 360 war (especially you, FA, since you or someone with your name is going around on N4G.com slamming the PS3 any chance you or he gets). |

Supposedly, it actually ties up everything well. We'll see. Then again, if Kojima can give a good explanation as to why Liquid is taking over Ocelot's body, without even outright giving an explanation, and letting the player make the connection, I have faith in the man.

There was nothing I did not like about MGS 3, I beat it on Hard in 5:46:23, without killing or being seen, thats how much I enjoyed it.

It's exclusive? I thought it was going to be one of those games that are "exclusive" for about a year and then appear on a rival console.
I don't have a PS3, just a Wii although I wouldn't mind a 360. I don't have the money to spare for a 360 right now though. The last MGS game I played through was MGS2, I bought MGS3 on release but somehow it didn't grasp me like the others but I am interested how the story will end in MGS4. If I ever get around to buying a 360 and if MGS4 makes it to 360 I might give it a shot. |

Not saying that it couldn't happen, but the chances are VERY slim that it would be able to be ported without some SERIOUS compression that would gimp the game in a HUGE way. And even then, I doubt that it would fit on any less than three DVD-9s given that 50 GB stuff. |

As for the game itself, I don't own a PS3 but I'm interested in MGS4. Only problem is I didn't enjoy MGS3 that much so I'm not intending on a buying a PS3 for this. |

This is the only game that the PS3 is worth a shit to me, but one game isn't enough for me to buy such an expensive console.
Now, when the PS3 gets down to >$200, I'll pick it up and any game that's half-decent, but nothing besides this is a must own for me. |

Wii wins....
But seriously, it could be done on the 360 (disc swaps... Lost Oddeysey is a 34gb game) but it's of no concern to me. Gonna borrow my mates PS3 when he's done with the game since he has no other games (or blu-rays) and bought his PS3 specifically in anticipation for this.... Crazy fucker. |

I just said "turning point" because this seems to be THE game this year outside of GTA4 (this game is the main reason given as to why PS3 owners are less than not worried about the two exclusive 360 GTA4 episodes...or GOW2, for that matter).
The other thing that we will get in addition to this game: Metal Gear Online. Not sure how MGO will end up, but it seems to have interest. The core MGO game is expected to be on the same disc as MGS4 (if I remember correctly, or at least in the same box). |

I've seen MGO vids and it doesn't seem to do anything special. It's a competent shooter atleast, and a decent enough option.

The reason Ocelot was possessed to begin with is the easy part: He had Liquid's arm surgically implanted onto his body (since he lost one of his in MGS1). Liquid lives on through the arm and then starts taking over his mind and body to the point that in MGS4, he is now known as Liquid Ocelot. Now, how his arm in fact causes the possession is never really explained, but I think I have an idea. I think it had something to do with the whole thing about Liquid being a son of Big Boss (thus he got implanted with the DNA), and when Ocelot took his arm for his own, he reawakened the genes. Also, his "boss" (Solidus Snake) funded the operation, so something tells me Solidus had a hand in what eventually happened, as well (remember what Solidus' goal was with Arsenal Gear and who Liquid Ocelot said he was going after near the end of MGS2). Again, this is just what I think happened and not what was explained (only the base cause, implanting the arm, and the end result, Liquid's possession, is explained. There were no details) |

Actually, the best explanation is that Ocelot inherited some of his powers from his father, The Sorrow. Who had some sort of power involving reviving the spirit of the dead. |

...I haven't played all the way through MGS3 just yet, so I'm still learning the details of what happened in that game. I have read the main things that we find out about The Boss, The Sorrow and Ocelot (and how he forms what eventually and apparently becomes The Patriots), but other than that, I have little knowledge. I'm playing through it now because I bought the Essential Collection that had all three games in it and wanted to finally play it. Still though, I think the Les Enfelt Terribles project (dunno if I have that spelled right) and Solidus also had a hand in it as well. |

The end boss was torture, and it was not hard, it was torture for other reasons.
Also, just a little thing that you might like, hold down L1 (look through snakes eyes) during the whole final cinematic, you may be pleasantly surprised. |

Well, there have been a ton of EXCELLENT MGS sequences in history I like. You now got my hopes up for a excellent swerve since there's a lot of favorites I have that it will have to live up to.

Darkpower, Take my word on this, I have played and finished all 3, This is by far the best, and arguably the best ending in game history in my opinion.
Now go fucking play. |

Bingo. Ocelot's father has a strong connection with the spiritual/undead world. If that ability is hereditary (which, for shits and giggle, we'll assume), then it isn't too much of a stretch that Ocelot would channel the spirit of liquid through the hand.

Yeah, really the only complaint I have about MGS 3, is that it doesn't grab you from the beginning, like the others do. It does eventually, but in the beginning, you don't get that "I can't put this down because I HAVE to see what happens next" feeling.
But it's most definitly worth sticking to it. |

Actually yes, one thing I didn't like.
The first 2 hours of gameplay consists of the opening sequence and a tutorial with someone over the radio, that even when skipped through, is 5 mins long. Otherwise, utterly gorgeous game. |

I'm near the end of the game (for someone who wants you to kill her, The Boss is one tough fucking BITCH), so I'll see it eventually.
Only complaint besides that LONG ASS intro: Where is the huge "breaking the fourth wall" sequence in MGS3. After Psychomantis and the Crazy Colonel sequences , I was expecting something EXTREMELY freaky. All I found was that Sorrow sequence (and that was more of a "what the hell am I supposed to do at that end" thing than a "what the fuck is wrong with the game" thing). Was kind of a letdown because I was kind of ready for something really weird to happen on that front. Still, in their defense, I can see why they didn't do too much in MGS3. Was hard to beat MGS2's sequences. "I NEED SCISSORS!! 61!!" |

Still debating on whether or not to cave in and eventually get a PS3 for this, and blu-rays. Is it defo not coming to the 360?

It's not for sure - I don't care what Konami and anyone else says, you really can't take their word for it. If it does (which I imagine it will) I don't think it will be for at least two years at the earliest.

If you're wanting blu-rays too then just get a PS3. I don't see this ever coming to the 360 unless it's some remake years from now.

They do have a special bundle coming out that has the game, PS3, and a Dualshock 3 controller packed in (and it's the 80GB model, which means it has BC for most games. Trust me, the BC is better than some are making it out to be, since ALL my PS1/2 games have worked with nearly no hitches in my PS3), for the same price as the Motorstorm bundle was for.
So if you want to get a PS3 for this game, you might want to preorder that bundle (or wait for it). Keep in mind that MGS4 is just one game out of a strong lineup this year (Resistance 2 and LittleBigPlanet are two other huge PS3 games coming this year, and it's confirmed Bioshock is coming to PS3 in September with some improved graphics and the 360's DLC for that game already included). The game itself would be WAY too big for a 360 disc (literally. It's about 50GB in size), so I doubt that Kojima could make a 360 version even if he wanted to. |

That pack also has a 2nd controller (SIXAXIS, not Dualshock 3) and comes in a gun metal grey colour.
Europe is confirmed to not have this bundle on MGS4 launch. Also, you're right, it wouldn't fit on a disc, and Konami would never resort to making a game spanning multiple discs... ![]() WAIT A FUCKING SECOND! THAT BOX SAYS 2 DISCS! UN-BE-FUCKING-LEIVABLE!
