Gotta check out the design for the set. It is shaped like a cooler http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showthread....9&page=6&pp=25 Volumes will be released eventually too Vol 1. Summerslams 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992 Vol 2. Summerslams 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997 Vol 3. Summerslams 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 Vol 4. Summerslams 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 Benoit matches will be on the set Cheapest deal for it right now is Barnes and Noble. With membership and a coupon you can get the compelte set for $130. Other retailers vary the set from $175-$200 In addition to every pay-per-view match in its entirety, fans will also receive bonus matches and behind-the-scenes clips exclusive to this DVD. I wonder if that means Free For All, SNME, RAW, HEAT, old pre summerslam special etc matches will be a bonus? |

I already own most of there on Video or DVD, so I think I'll pass on this. It'll be cool if they left Benoit matches in, especially coz he played a big part in Summerslam 2004.

That's an ugly fucking cooler. There should be an Austin 3:16 sticker slapped on the side of it or something, and it shouldn't be bright blue like that.
Cool set though. I'll probably pick up the first two volumes, as I have the rest on good old VHS. |

So are they still butchering old PPVs by removing Ventura's commentary, bleeping out trademarks, and replacing old theme tunes with modern generic muzak?

Whoa, they totally remove Ventura? I mean I knew about some of the music and the logos, but why Ventura?

And they kind of have to do the rest due to copyright issues. |

I don't see why they don't own the copyrights for WWE created music like Big Bossman and Demolition. Okay, they got some outside artists for some of the tracks (Derringer for the Demos, but surely they have a deal with Derringer for Hogan's theme anyway). Most of the old music was produced by Jim Johnson or Jimmy Hart in the WWF studios anyway.

The edited music really puts me off buying them. I can understand the blurring of the scratch logo and editing of the "WWF" initials as they have no choice, but the rest of the edits are bullshit.

Honestly, I see it the other way. WWE won't work out some type of deal for the blurs and WWF shit which is MUCH more prominent and distracting than, what, 1-2 minute bursts of some songs?
I really don't care about the themes, honestly. WWE should have gotten a license for any redistribution of the event in the first place, but it's not a deal breaker. The blurs are a bigger deal breaker for me. (But not enough not for me to buy it if I have the money.) Last edited by Xero; 05-31-2008 at 06:17 PM. |

They can't work out a deal for the logos and shit. Plus, it's only an issue from 1998 onwards, I prefer the proper old school stuff when I buy retro PPVs. I duno why... 1998-2001 was a hot period but too many PPVS per year make them stand out less.

When he was with them they were paying others for useage on videos but not him. He found out and wasnt happy. He sued and they settled for about 800,000 dollars. Now they have to get his permission or pay him for usage on DVDs. On Anthologys or DVDs with a lot of Ventura called matches in it they pay him to have his commentary. On some DVDs however they edit out his voice or choose matches he dont annouce. It was rumored last year that Vince and Ventura met to talk about getting a agreement done where they would paid him a large sum of money to use his voice on every DVD. I believe the relationship has gotten much better on using him for DVD. |

I believe some of the music they dont own costs thousands of dollars to use it. Which is why they dont do that. And WWF and the attitude logo are bleeped out do to the lawsuit.

The music, and entrances were never really a big deal til the attitude era.
And they better have the normal anthology style box sets in that cooler. |
