Yeah. I was raised on country music. One of the greatest of all time is my man Alan Jackson.

Don't know a lot about it, but the few songs I have heard, I've liked, alot.
Recommend me some great country singers, aside from extremely obvious ones I've not heard of any... I'm British, is my excuse. |

I listen to at least some of almost every genre. In terms of Country, I mostly listen to stuff like the Swinging Steaks, the Fools, the Stone Coyotes, the Drunk Stuntmen, Dave Carter/Tracy Grammer. And, of course, everyone listens to Johnny Cash.
Of all the genres, I hate mainstream country and mainstream rap most of all. There's plenty of good Country, but it's either dated or being played in small music venues. |

i was raised on country music and still listen to some of it. none of this pop shit that's out now. i was watching this show about hottest people of the 90s the other day and shania twain was on it. they talked about how much she did for country music in terms of making it mainstream or some shit (pretty sure it was before her but oh well). in reality, all she did was make it cool to make "country" music songs into pop trash.
also toby keith is trash, bdc. |

Yeah, I absolutely hate how 'pop' country is now. I miss the country of the 90's -before- it was pop. When there were still a few singers/groups that were making really nice traditional music. Gotta admit though, I've never been that big on 'old' country.
Hell, even Garth Brooks was decent when he first started. And Toby Keith isn't bad, when he's actually singing. He has a great voice. Still, nobody compares to Alan Jackson. ![]() |

Didn't bother to read the thread but I assume I am reiterating what everyone else has said in that country is the most awful music on the planet.

I don't listen to any now, but Garth Brooks and John Anderson were some of my favorites back when I first started listening to music.

Raised on the stuff. still love it to some extent...but country radio (like pretty much all new radio) is god awful. Most of the best stuff IMO was in between like 1985-2000. That's barring the much older stuff (Cash, Jennings, Williams etc etc etc.)

I like alot of Traditional Country, such as George Jones, Hank Jr., Waylon, Merle Haggard, and of course Johnny Cash (one of the primary influences of Iggy Pop, godfather of Punk.)
As far as more recent, I enjoy Sawyer Brown (great energy for a live band.), Alabama, Garth Brooks (older stuff), and George Strait. I'm also pretty big on Shooter Jennings and Hank III. "Straight to Hell" is perhaps the most groundbreaking country album in a long time. So I'm here to put the Dick in Dixie! and the cunt back in Country! 'cause the kind of country I'm hearing nowadays is a bunch of fuckin' shit to me! And some say I'm ill mannered that I'm gonna self destruct. But if you know what I'm thinking you'll know that pop country really sucks! |
