Trying to create highlight DVD

I am trying to help my brother create a highlight basketball DVD on his laptop by using clips from different game DVDs he ripped onto the computer. I am having trouble getting the program to work because DVDs that where ripped are only coming up as NTI CD & DVD Maker files and aren't compatible with any other program. The videos also aren't even playing on the computer. I am trying to get the files to work with CyberLink PowerProducer but nothing seems to be working. I tried changing the files to open up with CyberLink rather than NTI CD & DVD but that didn't work so I don't know...

It's on a Windows Vista..if that helps any

I've never done that, I am assuming I need some type or software to do this? Is NTI CD & DVD Maker able to do this? Its not my computer so I'm not exactly what he has on it...

Best program if i remember is DVD2AVI or tmpeg.....

Best best is to convert em to avi if you want minimal to low quality loss from the dvd.... then you just need to use a dvd authoring program to create the clips and menu and whatnot.

Yeah I totally deleted the files and decided I was gonna start over myself so I know exactly what was going on. I am gonna rip the DVDs onto my laptop (which has XP) and get them into .AVI format then go from there.

Are DVD authoring programs freeware or what? I've never really looked into them.

Ulead DVD MovieFactory� 6 Plus

Workshop is more advanced than MovieFactory... i'd use Workshop... lots of templates that can be edited and whatnot. I like it. Easy to use too!

I used DVD Decrypter to get one of the game films onto my computer then I used DVD2AVI to convert the film in .avi format. Thing is it took up like 50+GB and was broken up in 26 separate 1 minute and 40 second Real Media player files (no sound)...The sound came in one full Winamp file..............what the fuck? Its obvious I have no clue what I am doing, I am thinking about the guy who converted the game tapes into DVDs fucked something up as well but I dunno. This is super frustrating, I know it shouldn't be this hard. I have no idea what to do, I saw there is DVD shrinking programs out there but I almost maxed out my C drive ripping that one game video (I have since deleted it and have 51GB of free memory) so I really think I am doing something else wrong or something

When I used to have to rip DVDs, it was the same process. The files need to be really huge because the quality is so high. It only gets smaller after the DVD2AVI process (when you convert it back to a manageable AVI file).

The files you ended up with are what I used to end up with, although it didn't take up 50GB, more like 10GB.

It was weird though because the file didn't get big until after I used DVD2AVI and converted them, each 1:40 AVI file was like 2GB....which can't be right. The quality of the DVDs aren't that great either, the DVDs themselves are converted from a tape instead a camcorder.
