I have nothing wrong with low card wrestlers holding a belt, but they were just bringing prestige back to it with Jericho. It needed a few more upper-midcard guys before they should have considered giving it to someone like Kingston.

Benjamin could have used it so much more.

You do realise that Kofi Kingston has been going over Shelton Benjamin on regular occasions, right? And that Shelton Benjamin has already held the Intercontinental Title on three separate occasions? The man has held it enough for the time being, and his gimmick will get a lot more development on SmackDown!. And Benjamin will probably also get a lot more ring time.

Also, the belt does not need to be around the waists of guys who are above it, like Chris Jericho, Shawn Michaels, CM Punk, etc. It should be used to give the mid-card relevance. That being said, I think they pulled the trigger on the title change too soon, as now that they are without a World Title, the IC Championship is the top ranking belt on RAW, which means that Kofi Kingston is now the best wrestler on the RAW roster. That's a little too surreal, even for my tastes.

Lance Cade could have helped Jericho get the win, and then Jericho could have handed it off to Cade on RAW. That would put the belt on a guy who has never held it, and could use it as a stepping stone, and it seems to be someone the WWE wants to use in the main event. The WWE does seem to really life Kofi, though, so maybe there are plans to use him in a big role, too.

Shelton could have brought pristige back. He's already established with it. Though he was just an example.

And yeah, they higher-card does need to hold it if they ever plan to bring it back to the title it once was (a stepping stone to the main event). Without the higher card holding it for a while to reestablish it it's just a jobber title (except with the below exception).

Now, it'd be different if the match wasn't a non-advertised match, not apart of a feud. If Jericho and Kofi had feuded for a few months and THEN Kofi took it, yeah, it'd be fine.

I don't think they even teased Jericho getting a shot, so they really dropped the ball.

Now would be the perfect time to whip out the "H.B. Cade" gimmick, by the way. Even if they don't go too overboard with it, and only use it as a heel jab at HBK, I'd like to see Cade start using his awesome Flying Elbow. Apparently he does a really nice Sweet Chin Music, as well.

When did CM Punk become above the IC belt, last time i was here you all said the ECW championship wasn't a real top belt championship and now you say (Noid) that CM Punk is above the IC title.

Well, technically the ECW Championship is a step below the Intercontinental Championship. That means Kofi is a bigger Champion than Mark.

A few things come to mind quickly.

A. Even Shelton Benjamin seems "above the belt" at this point. The last time he held it, I always got the "So, now what?" feeling. Repeating an Intercontinental title reign doesn't do Shelton or the belt any favors. Unless Shelton went on one of those Benjamin tears while he had the belt, but they don't seem very open to doing that.

B. Kofi stealing the belt seemed pretty cool to me. Unless the fued was huge and took about six months, he would have seemed unready to completely out-do Jericho in a real set. This way it looks like he was just lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time. Having a slightly more unexperienced champion reminds people of how much the title really means.

C. I love Kofi.

I love Kofi, so I'm fine with this move. A Kofi/Cade feud could be good. And when Rey gets back, we NEED to see at least one Rey/Kofi match.

Oh and CM Punk is gonna have to get above IC Title level real fast, because in terms of storyline he's the only chance Raw has at getting a title.....oh who am I kidding, you just know they'll send Batista or Cena over to SD for a one off appearance, making there no point in the draft.

Isn't the IC title a midcard title any ways and isn't it just holding down Jericho? Kofi is young, exciting, and insanely popular for a guy that is just on ECW. This is just what the IC title needs.

Also, Xero, Jericho wasn't bring prestiage back to the IC title, he wasn't even defending it. In fact Jericho was the last in line of a string of guys that didn't need the title and rarely defended it. Jericho, Jeff Hardy and Umanga didn't need the title, they were all legit semi-main eventers, Kofi is still a new guy yet to prove anything. So to him the IC title is a step up, for Jericho it is kind of a step down.

Also, what is the point of holding a midcard title more times than anyone else? What, being able to say, "I'm king of midcard?"

The IC title was getting in the way of the Jericho/HBK feud, now they can focus on it without having HBK challenge for a title he hasn't had since 1995.

Werd, we can get back to the days of Mid Carders again. Raw is opening up, and that is a good thing.

They can have a few non title Main event Fueds (bats vs Cena, HBK vs Jericho) a Upper Card Fued (JBL vs someone, Maybe Punk to get over) and have a real mid card (Kofi, Cade, Burke, Santino ) now all they have to do is get a team or 2 to take on the Million Dollar American Dream (My name, trademarked)
