Quick NBA question

Just considering that alot of players (of course no big names so whatever) have opted to play in Europe for more money, do you believe that the NBA will raise the salary cap?

I'm just saying considering the inflation and the low value of the dollar compared to the euro at this point.

What if this becomes an issue where players will constantly start leaving?

Also, from an ESPN article, it says:

"New Jersey Nets free agent Nenad Krstic signed a two year deal worth $3 million euros per year with Triumph Moscow early Tuesday morning, Krstic's agent, Marc Cornstein, said.

The salary is the equivalent of around $9 million per year in the United States once you factor in the exchange rate and the fact that European clubs pay all the players' taxes."
------------------------------------------------------------------

Sports club pays THE PLAYERS' TAX?

Thats insane.

No I really don't see them raising the salary cap because of this. For one, where is the money going to come from to pay the extra salaries? I really don't see the owners taking a hit and raising the salary cap without an increase in revenues.

Plus I really can't see any marquee player leaving so I don't think it would necessary. These guys make so much money off of endorsements here that it wouldn't be worth it. Plus I really don't think a lot of guys would enjoy living outside of the United States just to make an extra couple million when they are already making millions. So I think if players continue to leave it will be the lesser known guys (Josh Childress kinda surprised me tho) who really won't be missed that much. The league is already so watered down anyway because there is way too many teams that a lot of the guys leaving can be replaced without much drop off. The one big area it could impact though would be some international players coming over here to play, guys may get drafted and never even come over because they are making more money in their homeland. So that could really impact how things are done. The NBA is the top league (on and off the court) in the World though, so I dunno I think people are overreacting to this.

They'll probably raise it only if a big name guy makes the jump.

That, as much as the money, is why Childress left. Believe it or not Greece is probably a lot cooler than Hotlanta.

I really don't think the coolness factor was nearly as big as the money factor for Childress

The NBA is the biggest and most high profile league in the world, and it was paying Childress millions of dollars to play in it. If Childress was going to jump over to a second-tier league there has to be more than just money involved. He has traveled to Europe many times, and there is no doubt that it was a big factor in this.

I know what you're saying, the money is the overwhelming factor in this deal no doubt about it. But the destination, Athens, one of the most interesting and exciting and historic cities in the whole world, must have been a factor.

I think many players would prefer to play in Oklahoma City, Indianapolis or Sacramento over some place in Turkey or Latvia if it was a difference between $5 and 7 million.

I am fairly certain that 3 million euros doesn't add up to $9 million any way you look at it. By actual conversion 3 million euro is about $4.3 million, so unless the U.S. tax rate for Nenad Krstic is more than half of his annual income that is just wrong.
