Santino Yay or Nay?

When he came out a few years back I though he was just the WWE's way to have an italian wrestler because of the popularity of the Rocky Balboa movie. It's been a while since then he's just been kinda a mid carder and not really had a definate kinda push and has been kinda bouncing around. I find him entertaining, he's decient in the ring, and the way he acts and speaks is funny "Mya namea isa Santino...a", I find Santiono's Casa entertaining. I think he'd work better as the mouthpiece with an enforcer/ bodyguard behind him maybe call up Big Guiedo, Johhny the Bull, or Big Vito (minus the dress) but the Beth Phoenix thing is workin too. So what do you think of him?

I enjoy him. The interesting thing about Santino is he's getting popular without needing a title. The guy is a walking personality, and that's just fine by me. This company often forgets what a "character" is, and Santino could show a lot of guys a thing or two about it.

The gimmick's terrible. If he couldn't talk you'd all be shitting all over the gimmick. Well, I'm shitting on the gimmick because it's terrible. It's too obvious, unfunny and it tries too hard. If he wins the Women's championship he'll be a wrestling footnote and be the gimmick for the rest of his WWE - and possibly wrestling - career. If he gets out of this gimmick he could be a great addition to the upper midcard.

What gimmick, exactly? Mispronouncing words is not a gimmick. It's a tweak to a persona. Being Italian is not a gimmick -- nationality, no matter what they claim -- is not a gimmick. So, basically, you don't like to hear him speak.

You take it away, and you're left with just another everyday wrestler.

And Santino's character isn't as limiting as "retard" or "porn star". Those don't leave much room for growth or evolution. Santino is just an egomaniacal Italian with delusions of grandeur. He can do anything or go anywhere.

I actually agree with his second and third paragraphs, though. By the way, Xero. Way to Noid post (anything over two paragraphs here is apparently too long for people). You've never actually worded it like that before (that I have seen), and usually make an ass out of yourself by saying "Santino is horrible." Which everyone knows he is not.

While Santino holding the Women's Championship would be hilarious shit (not because of the writing, Xero, but because of the performers involved), I can't see Anthony Carelli holding a World Championship as a former WWE Women's Champion. I can imagine it tastefully done, and Santino becoming the first Women's Champion to amount to anything would be very cool, but I'd much rather see Santino as IC Champion and Beth as Women's Champion for the second time each. Or Beth as both IC and Women's Champion, with Santino then winning the IC Title off her.

I'd love to see Santino start winning matches, and incorporating more of his Boris Alexiev style into his current character. Whether you have Beth Phoenix whip him into shape, or you have William Regal school Santino, it doesn't fucking matter. Just start getting some of his MMA shit in there. Santino apparently reminded people of Kurt Angle when he was a serious bad-ass in OVW, and if he were a more credible version of himself now, he'd actually remind me of an Italian goofy Angle.

I've really liked his stuff with Beth, but mainly because it's freshened up both characters a lot. Santino could actually win the IC Title with Beth Phoenix by his side, something I couldn't see him doing when the only guy he could buy a win against was Val Venis. I also can't think of a way they would have credibly put Beth Phoenix back in Mickie James' sights after just sort of dropping her bad-ass routine. This has achieved both.

I actually wouldn't mind the WWE introducing an Intergender Tag Team Championship to RAW, even just for a gimmick's sake. You've got Santino & Beth, Kofi Kingston/John Cena/whoever else Mickie fucks & Mickie James, Paul Burchill & Katie Lea, Jamie Noble & Layla. Santino would of course refer to them as the "Transgender Championships" but it could be some mid-card fun on RAW.
