It's just a good time to begin thinking about it, also comparing our lists from now and with the fall/ second winter albums (which sometimes have a totally different feel and our some of the best) is pretty neat to see what holds up.

also Lost coastlines is a very beautiful song but Stage Names is a pretty superior album to the stand ins, but maybe I haven't listened enough yet.
That Why song is pretty classic. Last edited by Indifferent Clox; 08-30-2008 at 01:37 AM. |

I have heard about 5 of the songs mentioned in this thread and wasn't even aware of the existence of the artists behind almost all of the ones I haven't.

What I mean to say is, how do you guys have the time to listen to so much new music? Let alone listen to it enough to give sound opinions on it?

Nice call on Helio Sequence man
Ct2k: you know how most people check their myspace and facebook? I go to about 5-7 different music review sites every day (stereogum, allmusic, pitchfork, tiny mix tapes, deekmedia, the other two are usually random) I use metacritic as well. I recieve rolling stone, spin, and paste in the mail. So basically every day any album that is getting good reviews I download put it on my phillips mp3 player and when I am doing anything I listen to it and plug it into the car, get other people's opinions on it, listen to it at work when I'm inthe back, just immerse a lot of your free time in it. I don't listen all my waking hours by any means, but I would say I listen to 5 new albums a week. And I still listen to really good albums that came out in january. I also make room for new (to me) classics and stuff from recent years. Usually if I find an artist I like I download their whole discography off of piratebay, but I usually don't get eps unless they are supposed to be amazing and I usually don't get the albums that got really bad reviews unless I'm just mad in love with the band. I don't just download albums that get good reviews either (probably about 10 a week), any time a band I like comes out with a new album I give it a listen I may delete it, but I delete a lot of well reviewed albums and really enjoy a lot of mixed reviewed albums. It's all about immersion I guess, and when you plan on making a career out of creating or producing music, touring with or signing bands, djing or creating playlists on the radio, or some other music related field you tend to jump all over it. Another thing is just to hang around people who have eclectic tastes in music, eclectic might not mean good, but there are bound to be some solid choices in there. I don't get to listen to all the new music that comes out, but I get a chance to at least hear a little and then revisit when i find time. Quite a bit of my listening gets done while I go to sleep. oh i think it's impossible to read all of it. there are like 15,000 pages and i'm relatively sure very little of it has actually been published. but get yr hands on what you can. it's pretty crazy stuff to look at. the man himself is fucking brilliantly fascinating, too.

Oasis' new single "The Shock of the Lightning" is pretty amazing. I heard it live and it was even better. In fact, pretty much the whole album is incredible.
As for 4 other songs, I don't really know if what I download is from 2008, 2007 or even older than that. However, I will mention Paper Lions, a band I have seen as the opening act for Cake. I'm taking a chance here, but it sounds like something Mitch would appreciate, judging from what he used to send me on MSN. |
