Need help with this PS3 problem!

Alright....a few days ago my aunt and little cousin were watching a dvd on the Playstation 3 and they said that it suddenly shut off on them.

I didnt think much of it at the time and really didnt care since the PS3 isnt mine to begin with.

Today I went to put in a dvd to watch and when I click the power button the light turns green....then blue real quick...then it starts to beep and goes to a blinking red light.

Does anyone know what this means and how to fix it?

Shouldn't it be Red Dot of Death?

But yeah, call Sony about it.

Yeah, the easiest way is to call Sony. You might want to google the issue, see if others have encountered it, but the smartest way to deal with this is to let them handle it. Especiallu if it's still in warranty.

Honestly, my sysyem occasionally spits out a DVD/BD from time to time. This worries me a little, now.

Mine froze while trying to load SVR 08 one day last week and a couple of weeks before that it started up, loaded just fine, then it beeped, a yellow light came on, and it shut off. It's acted fine since then though. I guess it's like anything else it just has bad days...also I think it hates SVR 08 which I can understand.

Mine's begun to do that, too (maybe because I kept mine going all the time because of folding@home).

It's basically an overheating issue (at least that was the only thing I got from reading through some of the forums when I searched around). Usually if you leave it off for about a minute or so (as in, turn the power button in the back off) and then turn it back on, it'll come back on no problem (it's been my solution until I can figure out what is really going on. Unless there's something really fucked up going on with your PS3, it should do the trick.

I thought the 360 was the only one with overheating issues.

As comps and systems get more power, then yeah, you're going to have some issues with overheating that you will have to address when the issue comes up. I'm sure the Wii can overheat if you leave it on for days and weeks and months at a time. Why do you think you have fans in your computer and have watercooling products avaliable? That processor, for example, will catch on fire within 2 seconds of you powering your comp on if you don't have a heat sink installed (no joke. Those things get EXTREMELY hot in an EXTREMELY short time frame, obviously).

The thing is that if you run your system 24/7 without it getting a break or at least some adequate ventilation, then common sense (something I doubt some people have, actually) should tell you that something bad will eventually happen. Not blocking the fans is a key thing that gets overlooked, sadly.

The issue about the 360's overheating issue is that it's more widespread than it should be, and they may have not structured the system to handle the type of heat that it's generating within the system, or something in the system is not doing what it's supposed to do. Whatever it is, it's causing more problems than it should be.
