Better Wresltler #38
Pretty good return match we had there. Ric Flair wins by only 2 votes. If you remember the last time Bret Hart had a go at Better Wrestler he lost by one. So a second strong showing by Bret "the Hitman" Hart, but yet again he just doesn't have what it takes to become the Better Wrestler champion. But Ric Flair does, and he's only three matches away from becoming our third inductee into the Better Wrestler Hall of Fame! Lets see todays match up:
VS We've two legends of entierly different breeds, and we've only got three day to decide! |

If anyone knows me then they know I think Ric Flair is the greatest of all time. Huge props to Andre for being the single most legendary big man in the history of wrestling, but he aint no Ric Flair.

Two legends of a different breed, yes. But with Andre, and this goes for 99% of big men, you are limited to what you can do just by your size. You can never really have a match where Andre is the classic underdog. Obviously that wasn't detrimental to his career as he was fantastic (any matches where Andre has a fro he is usually mobile and amazing; if you have only seen short haired Andre check out fro Andre). Anyway, Flair to the top for his versatility in this one.

Most TPWWers have only seen Andres work in the mid to late 80s for you all of you guys, you really are missing out on an amazing wrestler.

I remember watching a pretty good stretcher match between Andre and Killer Kahn a few years ago. Anywho, Flair gets my vote.

Andre was great for a man of any size in the 60-70's. But admittedly he stayed way past his prime and tarnished his legacy.

And Flair didn't stay past his prime?

Totally different outcomes though. Andre is only remebered as a huge, slow, immoble guy. Flair is still respected by a good margine of people, and still had a few good matches here and there even after being WAY past his prime. Both are guilty, both Flair came out better from it.
But that was never my point; Andre rocked. Seriously. Peopel who haven't seen his earlier work are missing out in a huge way. It's night and day; while with Flair you can get the impression of what he was, with Andre the comparison is drastic difference. My point: Andre was the man. |

Yeah, I voted for Andre on this one.
While I've definately seen the difference with Andres work. What was it that actually changed his work so much? |

His health condition. His body just completely deteriated, his strength was all but gone by the late 80's. And with his cronic back pain he couldn't really bump, hell he could barely walk around due to the pain. Just didn't age well, but giants and midgets rarely do.

Hard to say, myself, but having it as too overwhelming a victory just seems unfair to Andre, so he got my vote.

Andre was pretty damn awesome in his time, but his 'time' was way shorter than Flair's. Also, I could never understand a damn thing he said.

Flair.
Honestly, nothing more needs to be said that hasn't already been said about the man in 100,000 previous posts . Flair MUST be in the HoF. End of story. |

Since voting is closed, I would like to still voice my opinion, while I think Andre is one of the greats that helped shape what wrestling is today, I have to give the nod to Flair because until only recently he was still shaping. (Then again, I am sure should Andre not passed and he stayed healthy, he would have done the same)
