Details regarding recent WWE releases
Chuck Palumbo
Regarding last week's departure of Chuck Palumbo, apparently, his contract recently expired and it was widely assumed he wouldn't be signed to a new one because the company hadn't done anything with him in months. Palumbo was said to be the typical idea of what Johnny Ace thinks a wrestler should look like because he's big and tall. Of course, his perception is based on Vince McMahon's perception of what a WWE wrestler should look like. After being released in '04, Palumbo returned to the company in the spring of '06. At the time, WWE was looking for "big" wrestlers as opposed to juiced up wrestlers, what with the Wellness Policy in effect. That explains how the likes of Bull Buchanan and Henry O. Godwinn got tryouts that year. Also, Palumbo had a brother in the military, which might have helped his cause in landing a job. Despite not being employed in late '05, for some reason JBL made a comment saying one of the company's wrestlers had a brother in the military, in reference to Palumbo. Rumors then started up on WWE being interested in him, and he was eventually signed. Anyway, McMahon liked Palumbo's biker gimmick at first, but the creative team was said to never be high on him, believing he'd never get over, and McMahon eventually lost interest in him as well. Palumbo seemed to have a good thing going in his program with Jamie Noble, but it wavered off and he soon got lost in the shuffle after a brief angle with Finlay. Following his brief angle with Finlay, Palumbo was drafted to Raw, but not used on television once, only working a handful of house shows. In an ironic twist, Palumbo was drafted to the Raw brand in July 2004, but didn't appear on Raw a single time. He primarily wrestled on Heat where he developed a car mechanic/enthusiast gimmick. He was released in November of that year during a talent purge as well. Regarding his future in wrestling, as reported earlier, Palumbo is trying to land a job in Mexico, but it may prove to be difficult. Rey Mysterio, through his connections, is trying to help him get a job in AAA, but the promotion has already turned down several ROH wrestlers and there's a moratorium on bringing in any more foreigners in as regulars. Also, former WWE wrestler Mark Jindrak (a.k.a. "Marco Corleone") is trying to get Palumbo in CMLL. Elijah Burke It's interesting to note that Elijah Burke was originally slated to be moved to the Raw brand when Shelton Benjamin moved to ECW late last year, but head Raw writer Brian Gewirtz had no interest in using him and the plan was nixed. Around the same time, WWE had plans for Kofi Kingston to be called up to the main roster, but Gewirtz had no interest in him as well. Also, SmackDown head writer Michael Hayes didn't want him either, hence his move to ECW upon his debut. In another interesting trivia note, Elijah Burke was originally tapped to be part of the Spirit Squad, but turned the spot down. He believed the gimmick would kill his career, so he decided to wait longer to be called up to WWE. As it turned out, considering what happened with pretty much everyone on the team, he lasted longer than everyone sans Nic Nemeth (a.k.a. Dolph Ziggler) and Kenny Dykstra, who was ironically cut the same day. Burke was called up to the SmackDown roster in a pairing with Sylvester Terkay in the summer of 2006 and with the exception of Kenny Dykstra, the Spirit Squad members were sent back down to developmental by the end of the year. Around the same time, Burke really started to get noticed in WWE and he soon became the leader of the "New Breed." Some believed Burke had small attitude issues, but several people felt he was great with promos, and as a result, had potential to be a money star in the future. Hence, he became the lead heel of the "New Breed." However, the angle eventually ran its course and the company apparently gave up on him. Even though he was considered to be a success in his role with the "New Breed," nobody could give a good reason as to why he wasn't being used anymore, even those directly involved in the creative process. All of the recent cuts were part of WWE's decision to release talent not being used as a result of the company's cost cutting directive. Burke had not been used since May and there were obviously no plans to use him anytime soon, hence his dismissal from the company. Kenny Dykstra Recently released WWE superstar Ken Doane (Kenny Dykstra) has posted the following message on his MySpace page: "First I would just like to say thank you to everyone who left a comment or message and for the support. It is greatly appreciated. Believe it or not i actually am happy to be gone from wwe. I dont have to do things around their schedule and i dont have to answer to anybody. i have never fealt so free in my entire life. i had been working with wwe since i was 16 so ive never really known anything else. i did have fun with wwe but the creative side never used me properly or really gave me an opportunity to get over. it sucks when you know your better than the majority and your only used to make people look good. will i stay wrestling? Im not sure. wwe kinda puts a bad taste in your mouth after all the politics and garbage that can go on. I may try to go to TNA but we will see. i have 90 days to think about it and possibly try. although i wont rule it out. I do feel like they could use me much better. I would also like to have some matches with guys like a.j. and kurt and joe and christian. plus sting has always been my favorite so to work with him would be great too. but i guess i will wait it out and see what direction i try to go in. as for wwe i am glad to be gone. i thank them for everything and wish them the best too. take care. Kenn Doane." ![]() |

All already known stuff, but thanks for posting. Elijah Burke and Kenny Dykstra are both very talented young men. I'd like to see both take to TNA in the future. Chuck Palumbo would be most interesting in Japan, I think.

Lena Yada
Regarding the release of ECW backstage announcer Lena Yada, there are two reasons behind her departure from World Wrestling Entertainments (besides the cost cutting measure). The company wanted to eventually use her as a wrestler. Though obviously athletic due to her time as a former top ranked professional tandem surfer, she had not progressed much as a wrestler. There were actually ideas tossed around to capitalize on her surfing background, but Vince McMahon nixed them immediately and the creative team got the message. This time last year, McMahon had to be convinced to sign her to a contract coming off her tenure in the Diva Search. The creative team lobbied for her, saying she had a unique look that stood out among your usual blond silicone Diva types. The lobbying paid off as she was signed to a deal and started on television at the start of 2008 -- even before the official WWE debut of 2007 Diva Search winner Eve Torres. Following the news of Yada's departure from World Wrestling Entertainment, a number of fans speculated online that Yada was being let go as a result of the recent hiring of former TNA Knockout Gail Kim, who is of course Asian too. As it turns out, the speculation appears to be correct. According to one source, as soon as WWE signed Gail Kim (who is indeed under contract to the company), both Vince and Stephanie McMahon felt there was no reason to have Yada on the roster anymore since "they looked too much alike." Yada technically participated in her first wrestling match at last Monday's Raw in the 16-Diva tag match. However, she was not tagged in. Although, her team won, so she has the rare distinction of being undefeated in WWE competition alongside Braden Walker and Frankie Kazarian. She's since logged on to her MySpace page, but hasn't spoken out out or removed the numerous WWE references on the page, including the headline that reads "It's all about the ECW...." and her profile photo being a graphic of herself informing people to tune into ECW every Tuesday on Sci Fi. Ironically, Lena Yada was released a year to the date of her hiring -- November 10, 2007. It was also her birthday this past week as she turned 30 years old on Wednesday. |

I'm not suprised about any of these guys. None of them really caught on, it can be argued that they weren't given a chance, or when they were the rug was yanked out from under them. But they haven't done anything for a while.

I thought Kenny was going to be a Main eventer by this point, with the way the WWE pushes guys too quick.
I think he and Burke both coudl go to Mexico or Japan, even ROH for a year and be back with the WWE in a year, much improved. |

From PWInsider:
Ken Doane (aka former WWE star Kenny Dykstra) removed the MySpace.com blog he posted late yesterday noting he was happy about his WWE release due to the attention he was receiving online. In it's place, Doane wrote, "I took down my past blog cause dirt sheets were making such a big deal about it. oh well, **** happens. wonder if they will put this one up on the site too." ==== Probably got an earful from it. |

TNA is a minor league. Oh, and they use ROH like OVW. But now WWE uses FCW instead of OVW. I think they switched over the summer, can't remember whu.

How would a TNA "Minor League" look? I was picturing a high school gymnasium, but I'm not sure they could fill the stands.

Paul London
Regarding the recent release of Paul London, he had been in the dog house for quite some time, ever since he smiled during the live shot right before Vince McMahon's explosion angle in June 2007. London also had a reputation for having no instincts as a performer, as far as how his character should be doing promos, even though everyone knew he has the wrestling ability. After losing the WWE Cruiserweight Championship on the August 4, 2005 edition of Velocity to Nunzio, London was told to deliver a heartfelt promo regarding his title loss. Instead, he did a goofy comedy promo encouraging fans to protest his title loss, which officials frowned upon. It was said that London didn't like SmackDown writer David Lagana's idea, but by not doing what he was told, and doing a bad promo, it really hurt his standing with the company. London soon went on a losing streak before returning as a face and teaming with the newly rehired Brian Kendrick. London also had a rep of being a complainer, which obviously didn't help matters. London asked for time off from the road on a few occasions. After asking for time off one time, London said he wasn't sure he wanted to commit his life to professional wrestling. He was given the time off and came back looking invigorated, but a mere month later, people felt the same issues were coming back up and that nothing had changed regarding him. Sometime back, WWE had plans to give London & Kendrick a huge push, but the duo performed poorly in the pre-taped promos given to them, to the point that most of them never made the air. London also had a relationship with former WWE Diva Ashley Massaro, which was seen as negative by most in the company with one person saying it ruined his standing in the company. London had heat in the locker room as a result of his relationship with Massaro. Approximately two years ago, WWE had plans to do an angle on Kendrick having a crush on Massaro, but it was dropped. They also had plans to do a big break-up angle between London & Kendrick, but those plans were dropped as well. London had a reputation of being a headache to work with among WWE's creative staff. That helps explain why his obvious talents didn't go as far as they could have. Regarding his future in wrestling, London's continuing his wrestling career as he's currently accepting bookings through an agent. The AAA promotion out of Mexico is said to be interested in his services, and he speaks Spanish, which helps a lot. However, this may not be the right time because a number of the top wrestlers in AAA are pressuring officials to keep foreigners from taking their spots. |

London sounds like he got in his own way a lot, which is really sad, because he's just as, if not more talented, than Evan Bourne (right down to the Shooting Star Press). Truth be told, though, London giving a heartfelt promo on Velocity about losing a title to Nunzio would have been hard for even Olivier to pull off. |
