MAD TV Cancelled after 14 Seasons
LOS ANGELES - Fox has canceled late-night sketch comedy veteran "MadTV," one of its longest-running shows.
The Saturday-night mainstay's current 14th season will be its last on the network, Fox sources said. However, the show's co-creator, David Salzman, said he plans to shop "MadTV" to cable networks and other outlets. "There's a long list of parties that have called us, including a few very recently, and we're going to start conversations with them very shortly," Salzman said. Fox told Salzman the show had become too expensive considering its time period and ratings. Unlike dramas and comedies that suffer the broadcast ax, however, Salzman believes his show's budget can be scaled back to suit a cable network. "I think we can change it without it really being noticeable," he said. "We've learned over the years how to do things on an efficient basis." Salzman called his show "the only success in the 21-year history of Fox's late night," and he gave credit to the network for giving him enough notice to look for another distributor without interrupting production. In one respect, the timing of the cancellation is fortuitous -- the show's licensing deal with Comedy Central, which airs the show's first 11 seasons in repeats, is set to expire at year's end. Salzman can offer buyers the exclusive rights to air the show's library of content if they pick up the show, or sell the show and its library separately. Salzman also praised competitor "Saturday Night Live," calling the show "the greatest of its type of all time." Still, Salzman noted his show -- which embraces a hip-hop sensibility compared to the NBC program's 1970s rock 'n' roll roots -- has faced an uphill battle for attention. I loved the earlier episodes, but my love for the show started dying about the time, Will Sasso stopped.

To be honest I didn't even know it was still on and won't miss it. Nothing against it, just my take on the situation.
I remember enjoying it a bit back in the day, like 97 when I was young. Haven't really seen it since other than in passing on Comedy Central. |

Oh thank god. This show stopped being funny a long time ago. The only person still on that show who had any talent was Bobby Lee. What's her name is probably making much more money being Lois Griffin on Family Guy.

Never was a big fan. I have seen alot it when Comedy Central started playing it instead of SNL reruns. back in 03-04. Honestly I thought it ended 4 years ago.

Maybe some of these unfunny bastards can get real jobs instead of taking refuge on a third rate SNL for over a decade

The turnover rate of their cast to stars is abyssmal. Who did they produce? FrankTV? Thanks a lot for ruining post season baseball.
Even second rate sketch comedy shows cranked out at least a few quality stars. All That has had more success come out of it than MadTv. In Living Color was the goods. |

Thank God. Who did MadTV ever really produce? Artie Lange, Nicole Sullivan and Orlando Jones? Yikes. Although I love Artie on the Howard Stern Show

Wasn't Artie Lange in Dirty Work before MadTv?

Dirty Work was in 1998 and I believe Lange was an original cast member in 95

Okay, well I'll give them Lange since I like him. Hardly prestigious though.

There were some really funny reoccuring sketches but most of them were pretty annoying
Some good ones I remember: Kenny Rogers in anything, especially when they made fun of fear factor Steven Seagal Rachel Ray Arnold Schwarzenagger |

Dont get me wrong, they had some HILARIOUS skits. But it ended up being only like 10 percent of the total.
I loved Michael McDonald or whatever, the guys that does "Depressed Persian Tow Truck Driver" and Stewart. He was pretty funny. But in recent years it was just such crap. |

14 seasons is a good run, I respect them. One episode of MADtv makes me laugh more than the entirety of my SNL views.

Will Sasso could be hilarious at times. And Nicole Sullivan had her moments. And stfu gertner, Orlando is the man.
But yeah, besides that it was pretty unfunny. Dolemite was pretty good tho. |

Pretty much went to shit around the 03 season.
I watched last season's debut and they pretty much completely took away the live content and started doing everything pre-taped. What the fuck is that? |

I actually know one of the new guys on this season, Eric Price. I'll catch parts of MadTV here and there mainly to see him. Seems like he is in ever sketch now. Him and Bobby Lee are only ones I enjoy. But yeah, Eric Price was in an improv comedy group by my school I would see every weekend just about. Would have my chats with him here and there after shows at the bar. Like not friends or anything, but I know him.
