PS3 HDMI Cable HELP
So I've had my PS3 for a while and been using the standard AV cables with my old crap-ass TV. I just got a new 32" Samsung HD TV. The specific model is LN32A330J1D. I got an HDMI cable that is 1.3a compatible and i CAN NOT get this shit to work with my PS3. I've tried hooking both sets of cables up at the same time and manually changing the settings, I switch the input to HDMI on my TV, and nothing. I've tried just hooking up the HDMI cable and getting the PS3 to auto-detect and it won't. I've turned the damn PS3 and TV on and off a bazillion times trying to get them to handshake...and nothing.
What the hell do I do to get this thing to work? 2012: The Year of the Bullet Quote:

I know with the 360, there is a switch on it to change it from regular A/V to HD. I dunno if that is on a PS3 too but check, obv. Other than that, make sure you plugged it into the right HDMI slot in your TV, and make sure you are setting the TV to the right input if you have more than one HDMI slot. If none of that works, maybe the HDMI cable is fucked. It sounds like you are just doing something wrong though, no offense.

Theres no physical switch on the PS3 itself. From the display settings menu you can select to switch the output over to HDMI, which I've done, but it doesn't detect it. My cable is plugged in to HDMI 1 and my TV is set to HDMI 1. The TV detects that something is plugged in on HDMI 1, otherwise it won't let you switch to it. But the screen just says 'no signal' as if it is not receiving anything from the PS3.

Are you positive you connected the HDMI cord all the way into the back of the PS3?

Don't know if it will help, but try turning off the 1080i and p. Our old plasma tv wouldn't detect the PS3 unless those were turned off.

Checked all the cables, all are firmly inserted. And my TV is only a 720p anyway so there is no 1080 to turn off

In video settings, do the manual set up.

So the part that reads 'BD 1080p 24 Hz Output (HDMI)' should be set to 'Off'?

Is there no way to set up the PS3 to display at 720p?

Not specifically. There's a "display settings" menu where you can choose from a variety of outputs (HDMI, Component, Composite, etc.) When i choose HDMI and switch over my TV to the HDMI input, I get a blank screen for a few seconds and then a message saying "no signal".

Turn it off and back on again without the A/V wires?
Try the 2nd HDMI port if you have one? Maybe you have to set the audio source on the PS3 to HDMI too? I dunno, I would just return the HDMI cable and get another one. Do you have a regular component cable? The red/green/blue one? You could just try using that if anything. It will display it in HD. I have my 360 hooked up that way and don't really notice any difference between it and HDMI. |

Yeh I tried all three of those. I'm probably just gonna wind up taking the cable back, I might try a different HDMI cable first and if I still get nothing I'm gonna switch to the component cable. My TV isn't 1080 anyway so I really don't need the HDMI cable.

If you're not rocking out at 1080p and using surround sound, return the overpriced HDMI cable.

I hope you didn't buy one of those $100 Monster HDMI cables too. Fucking giant ripoff. You can get an HDMI cable for like $1 on eBay or Amazon or anything.

No. Hell no. It wasn't the cheapest, but it wasn't ridiculous. It was just a generic Phillips cable, like $30 at Wal Mart.

My friend had this problem when he tried to load PS2 games and got a blank screen.
We updated the TV's firmware via the USB port and that sorted it out. It's probably not your problem, but anything helps, right ![]() |

Dunno. Honestly, I just plug in my HDMI cable and turn on the PS3. Sets up automatically.
Turn your PS3 off. Unplug the standard AV cable from the system completely. Plug in the HDMI cable only and turn it on. PS3 will detect HDMI then. If you have standard AV cables and HDMI hooked up, it is gonna detect and use the AV because those are the primary output. If that doesn't work, you got a faulty cable. Happens with HDMI occasionally. You have the exact same HDMI cable I have, so it should work. Hope this helps. |

Dude, still. Retail in general is a huge ripoff. You will find that online shopping is your new best friend. This is the HDMI I use. It works perfect. And it was $5 shipped. ![]() http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=390010090922 |

I had no problems setting up mine for HDMI either... It really sounds like a faulty cable, as I've heard of no problems like this.

Yeh I know $30 was still a little much but I was too impatient to wait for something to ship to me, came back to bite me in the ass though.
But anyway, at this point I think I've tried absolutely everything that can be done and still nothing. It's probably a bad cable. |

It's a good idea on the more pricey pieces of equipment. I'm talking TVs, fridges, cars, etc. Saves you a crap ton of money because more than likely your manufacturer is in another country and only covers "manufacturing defects", meaning jack shit for 30 - 90 days.
