music software
I want to start toying around with beats and such. I've been looking around for torrents and downloaded a couple programs. I tried Fruity Loops 7 but it seemed pretty complicated so I'm looking for something simpler to get started. I'm downloading Acid Pro 5 right now. Anyone know of any or have any suggestions of a beginner program?

Try Nuendo. My buddy uses it and he's made some really pro sounding beats. He is pretty experienced but it's kind of like Photoshop. You can use it as a beginner and learn the basics and then keep learning more and more. Honestly, I'd recommend learning a harder program from the baby steps because it's easier to then master it then learning an easier program and then moving onto the harder programs more advanced stuff.

There's videos/tutorials on Youtube for Nuendo and I can try to dig up some sites that teach you the basics if you want.

I always found FruityLoops to be dirt simple.
If you're just looking for drums, Rhythm Rascal is awesome. If you mean beat in the sense that you include a bassline or anything else that locks down the groove in rap, probably not what you want. |

You'll probably be best if you ignore most of them to start anyway. You'll want to work with most of the controls eventually, but I'd start with just the basics, like the music itself.
Are you composing full backing tracks? Or attempting to, rather? |

Just toying with it, seeing what kind of beats I can make and such.

can you take downloaded Mp3's and add them to this program and remix songs? If so how?

You'd better get a good enough computer and better sound card in order to get a better souds track
