Definition of rookie - Wrestling Spammies rules debate
What is a rookie? More importantly, is Evan Bourne/Matt Syndel a rookie? This is his debut year in WWE, but not in wrestling? Do we count indy work, do we count say OVW or FCW or are they are rookie when they first start in either WWE or TNA?

Wrestling isn't real
Therefore it counts if they were not know nationally before they arrived on TV |

Anyone who has wrestled on TNA TV for more than six months is not a rookie in WWE.
Anyone who has wrestled for ROH for more than a year is not a rookie in WWE. Anyone who has wrestled in a big Japan promotion for more than six months is not a rookie. Anyone who has consistently been in the business for five years is not a rookie. |

If most people didn't know who the fuck he was 12 months ago, he is a rookie.

So anyone who has wrestling in RoH for more than 6 months isn't a rookie in TNA?
And if they have only been in OVW/FCW or another feeder fed, that doesn't count? |

Feeder feds don't count because they have extremely limited distribution. ROH has national PPVs and are the third biggest fed in the country. They're like the ECW of this era in that enough fans could recognize their bigger stars.
Maybe I should have said "in the ROH Main event" for a year. |

I agree more or less with what Xero said. While someone may be new to WWE, tv, etc, they're being judged on how good they are. Evan Bourne is good, but at the same time, he's not a rookie, because he's been wrestling for years to get that good. Compare that to someone like Morrison (who granted, isn't a rookie now), who has been wrestling for a shorter time span, but is also damn good.
I think rookie should consider how long they've been wrestling, not how long they've been in a certain company/on tv. Pretty much, anyone who has wrestled in a legit company for over a year is no longer a rookie (WWE, TNA, ROH, NOAH, NJPW, AJPW, Dragongate, etc). Lower level indy guys are a bit different, but I'd say if they've been wrestling consistantly on the indy circuit for two or more years, they aren't rookies either. |

Are you could look at it like this: Matt Sydal isn't a rookie persay, but Evan Bourne is.

I'd say the definition of a rookie is their first year with a major company for the purposes of our spammy contest. The difference is with me I would count RoH and some other indy promotions as major, despite the fact most of the board wouldn't agree. (When you take inot consideration how many indy feds there are you have to realize that RoH and the likes a VERY major, but whatever.) I do not however contest Bourne being a Rookie as no one but like 5 memebers of this board knew who he was last year. |

per se
And that TNA thing isn't right Xero. A rookie is defined by being in his first 12 month period as a professional. Having worked for 6 months in TNA, would still make you a Rookie for the next 6 months. So I guess for the Spammy voting, anyone who in the last 12 months was performing within their first 12 months as a contracted worker, could be voted for. But obviously, a Professional Rookie and a WWE Rookie are different things. If Cage returned to WWE, he wouldn't be classed as a rookie since he already served his rookie tenure with the company years ago. Although, what about if you played an unsuccessful gimmick in the E, then dropped it and went away for a while, and came back with a new gimmick and it got over? I dunno. It's hard to define set rules for pro wrestlers, since 'anything can happen, in the World Wrestling federation' |

Looking at the WWE roster, it seems like Kofi Kingston, Ted DiBiase, Manu, Primo Colon, Jack Swagger and DJ Gabriel are the only real rookies, correct?
