SmackDown starts off with the new WWE Champion Jeff Hardy being introduced. He comes out to a huge pop with a spectacular pyro and confetti. He talks about finally being champion. Edge comes out to interrupt. He tells Jeff it takes more than just a day or two to be a true champion and that he stole the title from him. Edge then says Vickie has announced two matches for tonight: Matt Hardy vs. Edge and Jeff Hardy vs. Vladimir Kozlov.

Jeff then asks Edge if he's done and hits Twist of Fate.

Hurricane Helms & R-Truth b. Shelton Benjamin & MVP
- Helms get the win via pinfall on Shelton.

John Morrison b. Festus
- Morrison gets the win the moonlight drive after The Miz hit Jesse with the bell making Festus comatose again.

Matt Hardy cuts a promo backstage before his match with Edge. He's receiving a huge pop from the live audience.

Edge b. Matt Hardy
- Hardy comes out to a huge pop while Edge comes out to big heat. Edge gets the clean win after hitting Hardy with a spear.

Ezekiel Jackson b. Carlito
- Ezekiel gets the win via pinfall. Both The Brian Kendrick and Primo Colon are at ringside during the match.

Maryse b. Maria
- The winner will get a future match for the Divas Championship. Michelle McCool is at ringside. Maria slaps Maryse to start the match. Maryse gets the win via pinfall after hitting a DDT. She taunts Michelle who is sitting with Jim Ross and Tazz.

Ken Kennedy promo with MVP promoting his Behind Enemy Lines DVD movie.

The Great Khali is interviewed. Rajin Singh says Mae Young is Khali's soul mate. Khali smiles.

The main event is up next. Vladimiz Kozlov comes out to big heat while Jeff Hardy comes out to another huge pop.

WWE Champion Jeff Hardy b. Vladimir Kozlov
- Hardy gets the win after Edge interferes. Kozlov and Edge double team Hardy until Triple H comes to the rescue. Kozlov runs away when Hunter gets his the sledge hammer. This concludes SmackDown.

At this rate I wonder if MVP will even be in the Rumble...theoretically he'd have to win a qualifying match for it

If he does somehow get in...I wouldn't be surprised to see him finally get lucky and be #30...walk to the ring all slow and cocky...only to then win the Bushwhacker Luke award

Yeah, the ECW Title is a World Title. I think Matt Hardy should be more protected than he is on this show, though. Yes, I'm a Matt mark, and have always liked him better than Jeff, but there is so much potential good in treating both Matt and Jeff like they are top level stars, and as equals. I mean, Edge could have even taken the chickenshit out way and got himself disqualified. It gives Matt the win, and doesn't make Edge look like a bitch.

Everything else sounds really solid. The Brian Kendrick & Ezekiel Jackson are still chasing the WWE Tag Team Championship, it seems, and MVP's losing streak is like someone jumping up and down on stage. It starts, and you're somewhat interested -- then they keep doing it and you're less interested. Finally they keep doing it long enough that you're interested in it again just to see how long they can do it for.

Matt Hardy jobs to Edge here regardless of his champion status because they're on an equal playing field in terms of kayfabe. They're both main event. In fact, frankly, Edge ranks higher. It's not a bad thing at all. I'm sure Hardy will bounce back from it man. Edge needs to win matches clean here and there too.

Yeah, I never thought of the ECW Title as being equal to the World/WWE ones. I honestly thought of the US Title as higher when MVP held it and was having some pretty kickass feuds.

I really wouldn't be suprised to see Matt Hardy lose the belt in the next couple months so they can put him in MITB and have him win.
Then they'll probably put one of the world titles on him later in the year.
I don't think this is really wishful thinking, since he's prob the next in line to be elevated to that status and MITB is a hot trend to do so.

If I was in charge, I'd let him run with the ECW title for a little longer and elevate him to a title fued over the summer or fall in another way.
I'd use the MITB case for John Morrison, but that's more radical than a Matt Hardy win.

Just watched SmackDown!. A really fun show. I even marked out for Triple H schooling Vladimir Kozlov a bit. Matt Hardy wasn't involved in the main event beat-down segment at all. A pretty pedestrian show, though. Perhaps the most exciting thing about it is that Ezekiel Jackson wore red trunks, instead of his disgustingly small black ones.

As for where Matthew is heading, I'm still sort of hoping that he turns out to be behind the Jeff Hardy attack, and then turns heel in revealing it, and the two fight over the ECW Championship come WrestleMania.

I didn't mind Jeff's promo. He's gotten a lot better, and while they're nothing flashy, they feel organic. When he says something, it doesn't sound awkward or forced.
