Is he worth keeping around? (Paul Birchill)


So Big Lance got a mixed reaction from the last one but what do you guys think about Paul Burchill? I do miss both there gimmicks in that vid, when Paul thought he was a pirate and Mr. Kennedy use to pop out at random times back stage and scream his name. I like Paul Burchill as far as his wrestling style goes. Kinda reminds me of that old school Vaderish rough neck hit you with my fists, knees, head, boots, or anything else I can style. They dropped the inscest inuendos and they might make a feud with DJ Gabriel which could help put him on a non jobber path. I would say maybe call up Drew McIntyre and/or his tag team partner (another kinda big brittish rough neck style wrestler) let them all align with Reagal and see if another blue bloods stable could get going. I would say yea, he's worth keeping around.

Yeah, I'd like to see him stick around. He's been given (very small) chances and not really done anything with them. I think he showed he has a bit of charisma with his pirate schtick, he looks good, the one glove 'Ripper' thing is pretty cool but they should use the half mask gimmick from OVW too. I mean, he's a 6'4/6'5, 250lb man that can do a standing shooting star press, corkscrews etc but I'm guessing he isn't allowed to use this stuff. Seeing somebody his size doing stuff like that could help get him over a lot but that's gonna happen with Vince. I think he may be one of WWE's future endeavour guys that would actually be better off getting picked up by TNA after 90 days

The worth of keeping someone around is really kind of a two-pronged issue. On the one hand, Burchill's pretty damn good. He's charismatic, he's entertaining, and he's good in the ring. On that front, yes.

On the other hand, there's little point in keeping around anyone they're not really going to use. I haven't seen him recently, but if he's being used like he's been used in the past, he might as well be replaced by any generic nobody who they can scrounge up. On that front, it's more a question of "what's the point?"

On the one hand, if he's kept aound long enough, he might end up getting somewhere out of sheer longevity. On the other, he could remain nobody and retire broken. Somewhere in between, he could be a Val Venis, who spends years as a well-liked performer with no serious chance of upward mobility--And that's fine, too.

I think the only value he has to WWE is keeping him from the opposition. Unless, of course, things have changed radically recently.

Which is a dam shame, as both Burchill and Venis are fine performers with plenty of character. If the WWE can't find something for a guy as big as Burchill with the arsenal of moves that he has and the personality to actually get a Pirates of the Caribbean rip-off character over, then they probably don't deserve him.

Let him go to TNA, and resurrect his career. Matt Morgan always needs opponents/tag partners.

I like Burchill. However, WWE has given me very little reason to do so.

They could make him a legitimate threat/force to be reckoned with on ECW. He could mix it up pretty well with a guy like Bourne. How they can't use a guy that has charisma, technical ability and build as well as the aerial moves is beyond me. Seems he's destined to be the new Charlie Haas - a decent talent that "the writers don't have anything for".

I'd keep him around, but they have to do something with him.

Even if they DON'T use Burchill for anything amazing, I'd rather have someone like him around as a jobber than someone like Gene Snitsky, ya know?

Well I've heard him being called ripper before, but the problem is he is not featured very often. They talk him up saying he is tough, and a bad ass, but it is hard to believe when he is always losing.

I like Paul Burchill. Maybe I am naive, but I think the WWE are grooming him. Not for anything *too* big, but they did nothing with him for ages, started releasing guys, and then let him make the cuts and give him another shot on ECW.

The stupid characters the WWE have had him play have been interesting, been somewhat over, and allowed him to work on his personality - something a lot of people would be afraid would hold him back in the WWE. He's not a genius on the mic, or anything, but he's done fairly well for himself, and only gotten better.

He's fixing up his look (the smaller trunks make him look much bigger, which makes him look more threatening, and makes his agility all the more impressive), and he wasn't squashed by The Boogeyman, which is something that Booker T cannot exactly claim.

Plus, Katie Lea is fucking gorgeous. If Burchill means Katie, then I am all for keeping him around.
