Discuss, why do you think the Hansen gimmick fell through?

So I was in an old school mood earlier and was watching some "monsters putting over new monsters" matches like when Vader was beaten by Kane in 1998, when Undertaker put over The Great Khali when they first feuded, and when Kane had his "throat broken" by Snitsky. I began to wonder why do you think that Vince decieded to drop the Vade Hansen gimmick (dark cult leader) with his two fallowers Black Pain and Kevin Thorn? You could say he didnt think that they could be as or more popular than Undertaker, but someone like Snitsky. He "took out" Kane, had a short run as the "foot fetish freak" then was retooled as the yellow mouthed monster before being wished the best in his future endevours. Maybe they shot too high with Vade in a debuting feud with the Undertaker, but they could have started lower on the totem. Have him and his fallowers destroy some very face wrestlers, and work it from there. Do you think that it was "premature" to release Vade, Kevin Thorn and completely drop the gimmick before it started? Or do you think that a bald guy with two semi talented big men is the least needed thing on Smackdown right now?
