TNT really knew how to get people to watch a new show back then
So here was a slick tactic to get people to watch the premire episode of a show.
I was watching the 2nd week of January Monday Nitro of 1997. The hot storyline at the time was nWo turning on Giant weeks before and Giant wanting his title shot with Hogan. They announce Hogan vs Giant as the main event 30 minutes into the show. Tony Schivonie sells it only like he could. Well TNT got smart. They had a new show called The New Adventures of Robin Hood premering after Nitro. So Hogan/Giant went on for about 2 minutes and then they were to go to Robin Hood. Well TNT decided to continue running Hogan/Giant during commercial breaks and then go back to the Robin Hood show. LOL. This is how hot wrestling was back then. Instead of running commercials, they ran wrestling. And it was hillarious to here Schivonie promoting Robin Hood towards the end of Nitro. god I loved those times. I know I watched that show, but I don't remember the Robin Hood thing. This was the same show where DDP fake joined the nWo and them instantly became a top babyface in the company |

I remember this, but they showed it a little differently over here. Was exactly the same up till the end of the show, got two minutes of Hogan/Giant, then program finished. BUt straight away afterwards they continued to show the match, instead of that Robin Hood thing.
I remember quite afew times that Nitro ran longer than the promoted show time, but they always continued to show what happened after it finished. Good times. |

Nitro's stronghold in the War's was that they owned the network Nitro was on, so they kept ahead on the ratings with the over-runs.
I don't remember any of this though. As a bit of a sidethought though, it always impressed me a bit that Turner was so determined to win this thing, that he ran Nitro head to head with Raw even in the UK, when both shows were on a 4 day delay. According to all I have read however, Nitro has never beaten Raw in the UK on ratings. |

I'd rather watch Robin Hood Men in Tights, than have my Robin Hood interrupted by men in tights

Yeah, But TNT didn't require a subscription. It was almost exclusively shit movies other than Nitro as well.
And I believe it was 'Trouble' In the day... before that it was known as 'The Children's Channel' and then TCC. |

Thankfully I don't think they did that in the UK, coz that sounds like an awful idea (for a wrestling fan anyway).

TNT used to show awfull movies from the 50's when Nitro wasn't on. They ocassionaly showed the ppv's too, but that was once in a blue moon. The german channel DSF would show Nitro and PPV in german, although it was about three weeks behind.

I remember trying to convince my mates at school to watch Dub C Dubya. Was so hard to do it, maybe why they never won the ratings, but some of us hardcore fans would watch both. set the VCR up for WCW but still flick channels.
Wow. Great times. See how things hot up and get better when theres decent competition? FFS, we got no chance with TNA. 2million viewers or not, fuckin RoH has a better chance. Just need the monies, which this HD may help to. |

It may have been to start with, but I remember at the back end of it all, when WCW wasn't a week and 4 days behind, just the 4 days, I would watch double SBTB, and then Nitro started at 9 and Raw at 10.
