Could JBL Start A Third Company???

I was just reading a few things about JBL, and had a random thought that maybe he would able to start another wrestling company, or possibly back TNA, ROH, etc.

Here's the first article:

Quote:
* JBL’s much-anticipated “historic” announcement at Wrestlemania also was a dud. History might have been made had JBL removed that ridiculous-looking mask Rey Mysterio was wearing. Although the mask was designed to resemble that of The Joker, it looked more like the return of Doink The Clown, and seemed to legitimately scare some younger Mysterio fans at ringside.

John Bradshaw Layfield, however, merely confirmed following his 26-second Intercontinental title loss to Mysterio that he would be leaving WWE for good.

“I had wanted to make it to WM25 for years, and when injuries cut my career short the one regret I had was that I wouldn’t make the 25th anniversary of Wrestlemania — well, I made it,” JBL later said on his WWE Universe blog.

He added that he has no plans to do anything on a professional level with WWE in the future and he’s not going back to commentary.

“Months ago, I picked out this match. If Eddie Guerrero couldn’t be here for it, then my dear friend Rey was the obvious choice, and I’m proud he was,” he said. “From the bottom of my heart, thank you for allowing me to be a part of the great theater we call sports entertainment.”

Word, however, has surfaced that JBL didn’t leave the company on the best of terms. His wife, financial guru Meredith Whitney, also didn’t attend what appears to have been Layfield’s last match.
So I'm pretty sure we haven't seen the last of JBL in a ring. Maybe in a WWE ring, but not altogether. Then it comes out that JBL is helping to fund OVW - and now it comes out that:

Quote:
John "Bradshaw" Layfield & Layfield Energy Co. Join the Vyper Fight League

The Vyper Fight League and Vyper Productions are proud to announce the addition of John "Bradshaw" Layfield, formerly WWE's "JBL," and Layfield Energy Company to the VFL product. John Layfield, coming fresh off of his retirement from professional wrestling, will be joining the VFL broadcast team as one of its hosts. Layfield is a former WWE Champion; the longest reigning in Smackdown history, a former broadcaster on WWE Smackdown, regularly appears on Fox News Channel's The Cost of Freedom, is a best-selling author, and is the president and owner of Layfield Energy Company. John Layfield joins the VFL at its inaugural event, Enter the Vypers Pit, on Friday April 24th, 2009, at 4400 Shepherdsville Road in Louisville, Kentucky.

In addition to John Layfield joining the VFL broadcast team, Layfield Energy Company is a proud sponsor of the Vyper Fight League. Layfield Energy Plus is a breakthrough supplement product that triggers energy, focus, and is an anti-inflammatory, with all the gain and none of the pain. Layfield Energy Plus is endorsed not only by John Layfield himself, but also by former WWE Diva and Covergirl, Torrie Wilson, as well as Baseball Hall of Famer, Wade Boggs. For more information go to www.LayfieldEnergy.com

Friday April 24th, 2009, the VFL presents Enter the Vypers Pit, where the world of Mixed Martial Arts will be revolutionized. The Vypers Pit is a state-of-the-art facility, equipped with stellar production capabilities and an intimate environment where every seat in the house is up-close-and-personal to the action. The facility is television ready and television friendly. Upon launch, the VFL will be taping monthly Friday Night Fights for future television broadcasts. The Vyper Fighters will be showcased with some of the most upscale production value in the MMA world.

The VFL is owned and operated by Danny Davis, a respected and successful member of the Sports Entertainment media for almost three decades. Davis has hosted and produced over 600 television tapings, and he has groomed hundreds of Sports Entertainment stars for the spotlight, including current UFC Heavyweight Champion, Brock Lesnar. Davis and Lesnar maintain a close relationship, and Lesnar has a keen interest in the success of the VFL and its fighters.

The VFL will host the most competitive fights in the region with the hungriest and most talented up-and-coming fighters around. For more information visit www.VyperFightLeague.com. In conjunction with Layfield Energy Company, and the addition of John Layfield to the VFL product, the Vyper Fight League is sure to rock the foundations of the MMA world on Friday April 24th, 2009, as the VFL presents Enter the Vypers Pit.

So with all of this, and with the money that he and his wife have, do you think it'd be possible for JBL to start another company? Or do you see him getting together with ROH or TNA?

Discuss with the usual sarcastic remarks and whatnot.

I think it would be interesting, but I couldn't see him starting his own promotion that would be any larger than a regional indy (I would love to have an indy fed in the Texas/Oklahoma/Arkansas/Louisiana area).

Not any that have survived longer than months.

There was one based out of Shreveport,LA awhile back that had Cassidy O'Reilly on a local TV station, but they were gone after 4 months (they only did shows in NE Lousiana, which isn't a good business model).

Other than that, you'd have to go to Houston for Booker T's promotion and maybe a handful in the Mississippi/Alabama/Georgia area. I believe Percy Pringle (Paul Bearer) helps with on based out of Alabama.

The 4-States Area of OK/TX/LA/AR is an old school wrestling area, and you could make good money if you got a few "legends' to show up. I remember going to a Jimmy Hart's Legends of Wrestling show and the local fairgrounds were packed. I also got a photo in the ring with Greg "The Hammer" Valentine!

I'm not sure if JBL would. He knows how much money and power the WWE has. If he did pick a fight with them, I'm sure he'd be going in armed. With him financially backing OVW, though, I could see their stock going up on the independent scene. With them branching into MMA, he could maybe even get some appearances by wrestling cross-over MMA guys, like Brock Lesnar, Bobby Lashley and Ken Shamrock.

I'd love to see someone start up a massive empire of a company, though. Apparently Mark Cuban has the money to. If he and JBL got behind ROH, then it could turn into something quite extraordinary.

umm... yes there IS. Texas has a bunch of promotions. PCW (Professional Championship Wrestling) is based out of Arlington, Tx. XCW pro wrestling is based out of Denton, Tx. Those 2 are the biggest indy feds around here, but there are several others in Marhsall,TX as well as Tyler, TX.... not to forget PWA, Booker T's promotion in Houston,Tx.

When you get technical, there are a few dozen indy feds in every single state.

I think we were more speaking along the lines of a larger promotion, something to the effect of ROH - except based in / running in the south, rather than how ROH is based toward the NE.
