DH in both leagues?
I just read the Chris Carpenter hurt himself when he was swinging a bat. This is made me thing about when Wang hurt his foot while running the bases last year.
So, does anyone else think that there should be a DH in both leagues? |

Fuck no. Injuries are a part of the game. The DH was only instituted when the NL was >>>>> AL in terms of offensive statistics. Now that the roles are reversed people want the DH in both leagues, and I think that's stupid. Having no DH has so much more strategy involved.
And I have no doubt this will turn into a huge argument with the fans of NL teams saying no DH and the fans of AL teams calling for a DH...happens every time. |

No, it's what separates the NL from the AL.

Agreed, I enjoy having a significant difference between the AL and NL. It puts more of an emphasis on the World Series too. I mean the NBA and NHL, the playoffs just arbitrarily split the league in half.
Also, pitchers bat in every level, so it's not like the National League has some crazy rule that is pulled out of the blue. |

Chris Carpenter could tear his rotator cuff closing a door. Let's not pretend that he could've avoided injury if he wasn't hitting.

I like what seperates the AL from the NL. Then again, it may be part of the reason the AL flourishes and the NL is often hardpressed to win a World Series or an All Star Game.
I know the rules are evenly balanced in those meetings, but the DH allows American League pitchers to improve, while National League hitters visibly struggle when making the jump. At this point, interleague play destroys a lot of the mystique and difference between the leagues. I think that should be dropped. If they're going to keep that going I think trying to differentiate between the leagues doesn't matter as much anymore. It also allows for careers to continue longer, and you can bring more speed and defense into your lineup while still getting a power hitter at the plate (without having to be a liability in the field.) AL teams can employ players the NL just doesn't have the option for. And then there's the pitcher's health discussion, which is another can of worms. So I dunno. I think it should stay the way it is, but I can definitely see the argument for it. |

I dislike the DH. I appreciate Jeritron's statement, and have heard the same from many other proponents of the DH. My counterarguement to that is, if the pitcher shouldn't have to hit in order to preserve his arm and career, why should ANY of the fielders? Where does it stop? When does baseball become a game with one set of players in the field and a completely different set comes to bat? At that point they might as well all put straps on their helmets and start playing football.

I wish they'd get rid of the DH all together. That's my take on it.

I like the pitcher's hitting, it brings a better dimension to the game and the pitchers, "Helping themselves out." I believe that the DH should be out all together and have the pitchers hit. Pitchers hit in High School and College, why not in the pros.

to be honest with you, i say there should be NO dh in any league. It makes for a fun game when you see a manager try to build his stratigy around a usless ass who cant hit,

Eh. I'd rather see the DH in both leagues, personally. Less pitcher injuries and the extension of a lot of major league hitters that can still produce is a bit more appealing to me than a slight increase in forced 'strategy'

But with another hitter in the lineup, baseball would become a slugfest. Strategy makes the gaem exciting

Also, I'm not a fan of some power hitter extending his career just because he can still hit. Can't play the field, you are pushed out for a new younger (cheaper) player.
