What fueds do you think were responsible for MAKING a guy? Like their defining moment. Also, why?

Example:
Edge- Edge vs Matt Hardy. Why: The true birth of 'The Rated R Superstar' gimmick.

Steve Austin (Bret Hart) - 3:16 started out with Jake but he really stood out and showed that he can go 'all the way' during his stuff with Bret

Triple H (Mick Foley) - First time we really saw just how good he was. He will never be able to top anything he did from his matches with Foley up until the first quad tear. Carried the company alongside The Rock.

Batista (Triple H) - Textbook 101 how to get a guy over. Nice, slow building feud that eventually reached a boiling point that sent Batista to the moon

CSLi Manning took my picks.

I was wondering if Angle/Austin from 2001 qualifies? Before his feud with Austin, Angle was more of a 'transitional champ'. Although he won the title in 2000, I don't think people really saw him as being on the same level as guys like Taker, Austin, Rocky, and HHH.

I can't say for sure because I wasn't watching WWE regularly back then but it seemed to me that Cena got over on his own based on how well he played his character, his look, his promo's etc. One of those guys that just has 'it'. His 'memorable feuds' I would say came after he'd already made it

Yeah, if it were which managers or which bookers made them, I would have mentioned Heyman.

But feud wise, Lesnar destroying Rock and Hogan was what really solidified him.

I really don't think any one feud really did it for Lesnar which is why I went the Heyman route. It was all him and his aura, and not many people can claim that.

At the time, Lesnar was the beast in the WWE, and Cena's character showed no fear of him. It planted the seeds for Cena to take over when Brock left. There was also the whole concept of Cena creating the FU as an answer to Brock's F-5.

I'd agree with this, also. So many guys were sacrificied at the alter of Lesnar that it is hard to just pick one that summarises who really made the guy. It was just one big machine that kept rolling.

I dunno. I think his destruction of The Rock and Hogan were what really solidified him. Before that, yeah, he was destroying people, but so what? But when you go and destroy a couple of megastars (and win the title off of one) then that makes people go "Hey, this guy is for real!"

Rock was absolutely over before, but I feel his fued with Foley got him over as a main eventer.
It started in the early fall for the number one contendership, and carried through up until a few weeks before Wrestlemania.

I feel like Foley really got HHH over twice over. Probably the most key junctions in HHH's singles career came at a time where he fueded with Foley, and both times Foley got him miles to the next level.

First of all, his fued with Foley in 97 is what took him from being the Artist Formerly Known as The Greenwich Snob, and turned him into a legitimate upper-midcard threat.
That was a huge leap for HHH, and his fued with Mankind/Cactus/Dude including the cage match and the MSG match really did it for him.
He rode that success for another couple of years.

Like The Rock, when HHH first won the title he was a bit shaky. He was a new champion, and sometimes new champions need to get their feet wet a little before they settle in. Not everyone is off to the races like Austin and Hogan.
Foley really did a lot for him. First of all, he's the one who jobbed the belt over to him. But he did a lot more than that to get him over. After a short-lived fued with Austin, HHH was kind of floundering. They put DX back together, and fueded him with McMahon to give him some more steam.
It was his fued with Foley, I think, that put him past a short-term experimental champion into a premeir lifelong main eventer.
Their fued and streetfights made HHH seem 10ft taller almost over night. I don't know, when I look at HHH's fall title reign and compare it to how he was going into Wrestlemania2000, I think the improvement is incredible. I think a lot of it is perception that came from how good Foley made him look in promos and matches.

The same Bigshow that was fresh off a fued with Bossman for the title?

I dunno. I didn't see BigShow as any real threat at the time. When HHH won the title back I wasn't suprised, and his fued with Foley had already been started a few weeks earlier. That's just my view of it though.

Goldberg got over in a similar fashion. He was huge over because of the streak and was solidified before he got to Hogan (who would be the closest to making him). No one feud made him.
