If flair doesnt job its ok, if bret doesnt job its WTF
Ric stole the belt from the WCW and brought it the WWF because he refused to job. Bret Hart did 'almost' the same thing and got screwed. Ones cheered, ones booed, i dont get the difference. If anything I think Ric Flair should be punched for stealing the god damn belt regardless of the reason, at least Hart had good intentions and I highly doubt he was going to take the WWF belt with him.
Then again, maybe that was why they never had a plan for him in WCW.... |

I'll also point out that, far from trashing the belt, the WWF didn't even mention WCW, and actually put the thing over. |

ric actually owned the belt. he was willing to give it back once he got the deposit + interest back. they refused to give it back, thus ric took it.
plus, those were different circumstances |

I already read and watched the video's but its the same thing. Herd asked him to give up the belt, flair refused because of personal reasons and then stole the belt.
Just because you put a deposit on a belt doesn't mean you own it. If Flair is going to use the deposit excuse, then how come he never got it back, but eventually gave the belt back anyway? What flair did was use the belt as leverage instead of jobbing like he should have regardless if the owner didnt want to put over the guy he promised. |

But he's the boss, it doesnt matter if he was wrong about his opinion of Flair in the direction he wants him to go. If he says to do a thing you do it. If Flair doesn't want to do it than he leaves, but any professional would have passed the belt off, not only did he screw Herd, but he screwed the WCW over, the entire locker room, and all the employees.

This is where you disagree with just about everyone else in this discussion.
In our opinion it WASN'T the same thing, therefore we will never agree that it was hypocritical. |

Dont put words in other peoples mouths if you had an argument to use then spit it but I'm pretty sure "HIS BOSS WAS MEAN AND WAS TRYING TO GET HIM TO CHANGE" isn't a valid argument nor is "HE HAS A DEPOSIT ON IT". If you dont want to argue about it then just bail, but please don't blanket the site due to your inability to explain your points.

WTF?
It is akin to getting e.g. a mortgage from the bank. Your house might be worth $1M but you only need to borrow $50K from the bank. If you default, what's the bank gonna do? It'll take your house, sell it, take what it's owed and give you the rest. How is that scenario different to Flair's? |

Oh i'd take the belt too, but i wouldnt goto another promotion and flaunt it a few days after, thats just poor business.
Mortgage is not the same thing, you dont goto a car dealership, put down a deposit on a car, and then claim you own it. |

Your car dealership analogy is EXACTLY the same. You've simply now put yourself down as the borrower instead of the lender. WTF????? The financier for your 'car loan' is EXACTLY the same as the bank in my mortgage scenario. WTF??????????????? Go AWAY. |

Didn't read the thread but: Flair agreed to job the belt but the promoter wouldn't give his retainer back for the belt (you had to give a 50,000 dollar retainer to carry the belt) so Flair told him if he wasn't getting his money for the belt then he wasn't gonna job it to someone else cause it was his until he got his cash. The promoter said fine then keep it and fuck off.
Flair was in the right. |

Flair agreed to job, then was informed that he wasn't required to, and kindly told not to bother coming back.
The belt issue came up afterwards, when the geniuses at WCW realised Flair had their World title belt. Flair had no issue returning it, as long as he received his deposit back, which they refused to comply to. Whether or not he should have shown up with it on WWE TV is debatable... technically the belt represented the NWA championship, and the NWA still recognised Flair as the NWA champion when he first showed up in the WWF, even if WCW had stripped him of the WCW title (basically the top WCW belt was a hybrid of the WCW World title and the NWA World title... WCW stripped Flair, the NWA hadn't yet). Therefore he was only showing up wearing a belt that was technically still his, and represented a championship he still held. |

Also, Flair removed the NWA title from WWF TV at their request soon after arriving, and began wearing a World tag team title (digitised "by Jack Tunney") instead.

Flair took the belt on tv. It wasn't about the 50K anymore.

The way flair told it was they asked him to give it up to Lex, and he said fuck that, you guys said I could pass it over to Sting. They argued and argued, and they agreed to do it to Barry Windham. Then the next day, Herd calls Flair as says you know what just send in the belt you dont have to job. The deposit was $25k, even still thats a lot of money and he said you're not getting it back ( Flair wanted interest on it too ). Then Flair called Mcmahon and said I'm looking for work.
So it still comes down to the fact that he didnt job like he was asked to Luger. Fuck Herd btw. |

The fact that the WCW 'higher ups' got angry at Herd and not Flair and that Herd begged Flair to come back as soon as that happened tells you everything you need to know. And for the record, Herd was constantly trying to get the belt off Flair, strictly for personal reasons. Just about everybody in WCW supported Flair's not dropping the belt
