Did they turn MVP face too soon?

Noticed he's not getting a really big reaction. A few cheers but it's pretty quiet when he comes out. Maybe they should have kept him heel for a while and turned him face around Royal Rumble or something.

His reactions are alright, no better or worse than anybody else really. I don't see him as somebody that needs to look for a reaction though, his pacing the stage at during his entrance, he doesn't need that. With his character coming across as 'cool', if he just looks at the crowd in the right way they'll pop for him, he doesn't need to jump around. Less would be more in his case I think. Still better as a heel though

I think it was a good time to turn him since the crowd pretty much rallied behind him during his losing streak. It was a bad time to take the US Title from him, and a worse way for him to react. He just got to Raw and he's a fighting champion, yeah, but he goes down to relative new-comer Kofi Kingston. This is the same MVP who was the longest reigning US Champion on Smackdown, right Michael Cole? And he's not pissed about it, he's happy to raise Kofi's hand. I would think if anything is slowing down his momentum it would be that loss. Hopefully he goes on to bigger things soon.

MitB is a real possibility. I don't think he will be Rumble material, especially given that they have been using the Rumble to put main eventers in the Mania match. I would have liked to have seen him win KotR, but I guess they are not doing it this year.

It's my opinion that there is a void in the face department on Raw. Their storyline is based around Legacy. Legacy is comprised of 3 strong heels, Randy Orton is 100% solidified as the main heel, while Rhodes and DiBiase are his henchmen and feeding off of his success while building a reputation of their own. Raw is in need of someone to be a strong face, and I think that MVP could be it.

Essentially, there are too many good heels on Raw and not enough strong (see also: healthy) faces.

Whoa, whoa WHOA there... I like MVP, he's fucking awesome to me. But can we stop comparing every wrestler that could be cool and a face to the Rock? Not to shoot down this particular analogy, but some body is getting this exact statement every month..

Back on Task. MVP was turned at the right time, only to get buried last night. MVP should have been the one to come out and start some static with Orton. WWE saw this period of time as one that could build new stars, then why have HHH come back from his vacation so soon? If MVP is the guy that will be getting some credibility as a new Jobber to the Stars (which is all he's gonna be for now) then he should have started with run in #2 with Orton. He could challenge and lose to him, cleanly and still earn respect for the valiant effort in a similar fashion that Jeff Hardy did years back with Taker.

I think MVP has adapted to his face character better than a lot of wrestlers who turn face and lose the things that made them popular in the first place. I do think they're trying to make him *too* much of a face, but what can you do?

One thing about MVP, is that since he's been a face, he hasn't had a real program with anyone. I think the closest was probably Shelton Benjamin, wasn't it? They really need to get MVP into a feud with someone that has legitimate heat to their name, where MVP can shine as a character.

Although he is not a heel, I still think the most exciting thing the RAW brand could offer right now, is Shawn Michaels vs. MVP in a feud over the WWE Title. HBK is a name that appeals to both marks and smarks, and not just one or the other. It's also been so long since he's been a World Champion (Jim Cornette's magic "seven years," actually), and the dude is just purely one of the best entertainers in the industry. Put MVP in a feud with him based on respect, and MVP trying to prove that he's WWE Championship material, and you're set.

To be honest, I'm not really feeling MVP as a guy that the WWE should "build." I'll get a lot of backlash for this, but I just don't see the guy as someone that would truly benefit by winning his first World Title at WrestleMania after winning the Royal Rumble, for example. The man has spent his time in the mid-card, gone over legitimate main eventers, etc. I think the time is now for MVP to step up and challenge for the WWE Title (like they were hinting with his promo on RAW).

I'm envisioning an HBK/Shelton Benjamin scenario with Shawn Michaels and MVP. They can wrestle at one PPV for the WWE Title, for example, and HBK can go over clean, while MVP looks like someone who can compete on the same level as one of the best in the history of the business. Depending on how the fans take to it, you can either than have MVP take the WWE Title from HBK, or at least have him start building momentum to his eventual title win.

A fued with HBK would be good to us guys on the net, but I think if MVP steps into the ring against Michaels his face pop would be evaporated, to the point where I think 99% of the audience would vocally back HBK over MVP.

I'd put him against a top tier heel instead. Perhaps Orton? Other than Orton I dont think I can think of anyone immediately that springs to mind as a top level RAW heel. Big Show perhaps?

I've thought about that, but it didn't exactly do any harm to Shelton Benjamin. You'd have HBK act like facing MVP would be a lot of fun, and have MVP talk about how HBK has his respect, and he wants to earn some from Michaels.

You have HBK get the win with a fluke Sweet Chin Music, and have an "oMG! This guy is gud..." look on his face after he wins. You can then have MVP and HBK team up on RAW and beat two heels, and continue their program, perhaps even with Michaels seeming a little anxious about getting back in the ring with MVP. I think the story could work.

And if the fans turn MVP heel, then so be it. Run with it, and have MVP cheat his ass off to beat HBK and win the WWE Title in their rematch. "I thought you were a guy good, Montel, and you screwed me over." "I never once said I was a role-model," *cue kick in the balls from MVP to HBK.*
