He loved his role as an announcer early on.

But the joke that is ECW and being on the 3rd rate show did him in. Plus his edge is lost on the WWE. If he can make a living having more fun in TNA, wouldnt you? Then he can come back in a few years.

I don't think anyone really knows. I could imagine it being because of the ceiling that was always above him. He was the #2 color guy in the company, but there is no way the company was ever going to put him ahead of Jerry Lawler. Maybe he just felt that he had peaked in his career as an announcer with the WWE?

probly tired of all the traveling and other bullshit, who knows maybe they were just planning on replacing him and he just bowed out with a little dignity, if thats the case and it was for todd grisham, thats some bulllllll shittt , todd grisham sucks ass, even jim ross can't stand him just watch their chemistry....... too bad taz had to retire from the ring cause he was one bad m'fer in his prime in ecw.....just wasnt used right in wwe from the start .....

I'm surprised he lasted as long as he did... I remember reading a story where somebody ribbed him backstage (I think it was Cole) about Adamle getting the call-up to the main commentator roster, and Tazz legitimately flipped out on him.
