Double J Question

Back in 1999, Jeff Jarrett was tag champ with Owen and an ex multiple intercontinental champion. Pretty soon after Owen's death, Jeff became the Intercontinental champion again (I think he may have even been the European and Intercontinental champ briefly before passing the Euro belt to Mark Henry).

I'm not actually sure of the reasons why he left (may have had something to do with Owen, maybe something to do with jobbing to Chyna)...but do you think if he hung around, he'd have won the big one?

Personally, I think he would have done, but it would have been a brief title reign and a one time only thing.

He wasn't under contract when he jobbed to Chyna.

So the only way he would do the job was if he got paid straight up. He was paid, but Vince really did not like Double J's "Pay me" attitude so from then on Vince does not like Jarrett.

He probably would have won the title, because they would have ran out of options eventually.

I think he left just because he wanted to go to WCW or something. I heard that his contract ran out while he was still Intercontinental Champion because Vince forgot to check up on it so he wanted Jarrett to drop the title before he left (Probably to avoid another Alundra Blayze incident) but Jarrett said he'd only do it for a big amount of money. So Vince paid up and Chyna's first Intercontinental Reign was born.

So was a "Good Housekeeping Match".

He was/is very close with Vince Russo - who had recently jumped to WCW - so I think that played a part in him switching to WCW.

If he had a reign I don't think it would have happened until after the brand split and it would have been on Smackdown. I think yes, after Guerrero's death.

Austin refused to do a program with him because he wasnt a top guy...I dont think the WWF ever planned on moving him up.

That all added to his WCW desire...and russo pushed him to the stars once he arrived...

He is one of the reason the company failed.

For what it's worth, I don't blame Jarrett for holding up Vince for the IC title, it's their own stupid fault for not getting the title off him before hand

I read before that Russo knew exactly what Jarrett's contract situation was. What you have to remember is that Russo and Jarrett were buddies and it's possible that Russo pushed Jarrett to the point where he was in the WWF. Russo left for WCW two weeks before Jarrett joined him. I'm not convinced Jarrett would have been pushed to the WWF title with or without Russo as there were too many big names in the WWF at the time, I'd imagine Russo would have been a great help to him if it were to happen though.

I am actually going to suggest that Jeff Jarrett would have made it, eventually. The man was a mid-carder in the WWE, no doubt about it, but the guy had so many IC Title reigns, that I think it would have been simply academic before he moved up. The politics surrounding Jarrett's success in WCW and TNA often detract from what a good and dependable (in the in-ring sense) Jarrett is.

I don't think he ever would have reached Austin/Rock levels, don't get me wrong. But I think the guy had the goods, and when there was an opening, he would have been given a shot. I mean, I was a mark for the guy back in the day, but if Billy Gunn was given a chance, Jarrett could have been. Jarrett is still wrestling today, as well. Anything could have happened in this hypothetical alternate timeline we are discussing, but assuming he was part of the WWE right now, with no real heat on him, then I see no reason why he could not have held a World Title when Chavo fucking Guerrero can lay technical claim to it.

I don't know that you can blame Jarrett for the failure of WCW. Their failure was years of mismanagement and their failure to build new stars. Russo did well (and it pains me greatly to say such a thing) by putting new names in the top spots. But, it was done without a transitional phase. There should have been a few series of matches during the changing of the guard. If they would have not popped their wad early, they could still have been going.

Jarrett is a good wrestler, in my opinion. He can be counted on for a solid match. Also, TNA with him in the main event picture just feels "right."

I could see it now. Watching smackdown with Jarrett having the world title around his waist, a guitar in his hand, sporting a "Don't Piss Me Off" t-shirt with Kid Rock's "Cowboy" as his theme.

I don't think he would have, he isn't top teir. He got WCW gold when there was no top guy around. And TNA, well he owned that when he was champ. WWE would have maybe given him a title shot, but never a run.
