Mad easy round.

Slashers shouldn't have made it this far imo. They're just big crazy guys with weapons. They don't exude "evil bastard" like some of the people they beat.

As good as ledger's joker was, i don't think it could beat lector.

As a 26 year old who actually saw empire and jedi in theatres as a kid, vader will win this in my book, however.

Maybe it couldn't beat Lector, but it should.

The problem with everything like this - best baddie, film, characters, tv shows, films etc - is something I never could realise as a kid, and that's just how different you see things from when you are young to now.

I used to grow up thinking, how the fuck can these older people possibly think what they had before what I have now, is any better? - but it's not the 'what' its the 'when'.

There's something about seeing something as awesome as Star Wars at the theatre as a kid, that you can't top. You're right, but to someone a decade younger, they would tell you Star Wars suck. And you can't blame them for that, for them its something else, with a totally different yet equal experience.

Apart from loving Ledger's Joker, I also believe he should win because I believe if I had seen The Dark Knight as a kid, with that kind of 'innocence' and imagination, its effect would be just as if not greater than something like seeing Vader in SW for the first time.

I know, it's hilarious. Vader is clearly one of, if not the, greatest movie villains of alltime. I don't see how it becomes a "I don't want to look like a nerd" thing, seeing as just about any serious film critic or historian would agree.

Vader has too much of a redemption moment to make him the greatest movie villain of all time. His ghost is hanging out with Obi-Wan and Yoda at the Ewok party (though arguably he is no longer Darth Vader, but Anakin at that point).

I don't think a redemption in any way cheapens him as a villain. It certainly doesn't as a character, but as far as villainy and serving as a foil go, he is pure evil for two whole movies.
Only Return of the Jedi features the softened, redeemed Vader. Before that he's ice cold

I don't think the events of a sequel really have any bearing on the films that came before it, whether one thinks they enhance or diminish the character.

I don't think Vader's face turn cheapens him in any way. It's certainly the perfect way to end the character, given the events of Episodes 1-3 and the transformation of man to machine. We that for all of his circuitry, there is still humanity left in Vader, and in essence, some Anakin left in him.

I see that AFI has only credited Vader as being a top villain for Empire. For whatever reason, wherever a villain is in multiple films, the list only references the villain's most villainous work. To cite Empire as Vader's top work of evil would be incorrect. That honor would have to go to Episode III or IV. Empire is the better film, but in Episode III he kills a bunch of unarmed kids and in Episode IV he kills Obi-Wan and orders the destruction of an entire planet. In Episode V, he cuts off Luke's hand.

This becomes a question in duality. When is he Anakin and when is he Darth Vader? When he turns on Mace Windu in Episode III he becomes Vader. When turns on the Emperor he becomes Anakin again. To consider him as a villain we should really consider the events between those two points holistically.

Empire is the better film, but in Episode III he kills a bunch of unarmed kids and in Episode IV he kills Obi-Wan and orders the destruction of an entire planet. In Episode V, he cuts off Luke's hand.

I would disagree. The way he was built up as a villain in Empire exceeded anything in Episode IV.
Tarkin orders the planet destroyed. Vader just watches. For the most part Vader is pretty obedient to Tarkin Episode IV, since he accepts that the Death Star is under his jurusdiction.
Vader obeys Tarkin, and later obeys the Emperor, but in Empire Strikes Back we get to see what kind of a person Darth is when he's in total control.

In Empire he is built up as a total badass who continually kills his officers for making mistakes. They build him up as totally heartless and a lying sack, but having him take advantage of his power. He continues to alter the deal with Lando in a frustratingly unfair manner, but what's Lando going to do.
He even hints at a willingness to overthrow his master.

I feel as though Vader's villainy is more personal in Empire. He's less of a masked marauder and you see more into his motivations and psyche. Even if he only torments and kills a handful of people, the way in which he does it reveals how evil this guy is. He walks a line between Godliness and cowardice.

That's very true. I think the way in which both of those scenes were done was well crafted.
The scene where Anakin becomes Darth Vader is essentially the same scene as when Vader reverts back to Anakin. It's just reversed.

Anakin stands as a third party, watching a struggle between good and evil. It's even the same scenery, with one person on the ground and the other standing, and him looking back and forth deciding with the reflection of the lightning on his face.
He gets to make the same decision twice, and the second time he gets it right.

You cannot possibly get more evil than that, without going into Andy Dick territory.
