I surprisingly only half enjoyed the rock on smackdown, just couldn't get into it like i normally can when rocks on the mic. Maybe its because he's been gone a long time, dunno.

The Rock's promo was just so much fun. Plus he actually put guys over. Just being mentioned by The Rock helps guys like Dolph Ziggler. And then you had Taker actually acting afraid of The Undertaker, which really sells him as a force.
He was just on fire. |

It made me miss the Rock too.
I was surprised at how energized the audience was because of it. I mean..it was a pre-recorded video and they were still ballistic. I agree about putting guys over too..I never thought I would see the Rock do that. |

No. The answer is Roddy Piper. I'll give the rock credit though, he's one of only a minimal few that can even come close.
It's just that The Rock always does the same promo. And it's inundated with catchphrase after catchphrase, or worked around so that he can fit them all in, even at the expense of the promo. Piper can just talk smack all day and the guy is always on. You just know he's the type of guy, along with Bobby Heenan, you do not dare to joust with in a war of words, because he'll always get the best of you. He's never at a loss. |

WOW, I can't believe the Great One is being challenged here when it comes to mic skills. Noone, and I mean noone works a crowd or put someone over like the Rock. More than ever, the WWE needs the Rock. If/when he hosts Raw, it will without a shadow of a doubt be the highest rated Raw in years. Don't get me wrong, I used to love Piper and the Nature Boy, but The Rock changed the game. Every week I would tune in with the millions and millions of The Rocks fans, just to see what he would come up with next.
Watching his promo tonight, was actually kind of depressing. All it did was remind me of how bland, PG and unentertaining the WWE is today. I am not asking for a R rated show, but at least have a little edge. Hell, even The Rock laughed after he said "Candy Ass". Look, I know alot of you guys here actually watch wrestling for the wrestling. I watch it for the pure entertainment value. Wrestling matches with great spots and hard bumps are certainly fun to watch, but the WWE seems to even try and take that out. The only way you can even get entertaining matches these days it to watch a PPV. Great TV matches are far and few between. To get back to the point. Like the title of this thread says. God Damn I miss The Rock. |

You can tell from his promo on Smackdown tonight that he was missing the wrestling a little bit, legitimately. It wasn't just a front for the camera. Rock has been away for a long time, ever since HOF 2008, and he had fun with it then too. Let the ratings soar if he guest hosts RAW and is serious about doing it.
I'm guessing a 5.5 rating for RAW if there is 3 to 4 weeks buildup for his guest host spot. It might even do a 6 rating if he has a heated promo with John Cena, or a promo where he makes fun of Randy Orton's persona. Something big. Rock better not just be talking shit either, he was teasing "one more match" bullshit with Austin at the HOF ceremony and nothing came of it and leading the crowd on. I was pissed, he better make up for it now. We made him into a movie star dammit! |

Mate, the WWE hasn't done a 5.5-6 rating since 2001 when the Rock was actually there for more than one night.

Foley was and still is great. But that kind of leads to the depressing state of the WWE today. Not to long ago, you had The Rock, Foley, Austin, Angle, E&C, DX, Jericho, Heyman, and many more all wresting/entertaining at the same time. Those guys could cut a promo and work a crowd. What do we have today. Cena who wishes he were the Rock, DX in their 40's, CM Punk and his straight edge speeches (kind of reminds me or Right to Censor). Other than Jericho, is anyone really worth listening to.

the rock wasn't even at smackdown and yet could still have the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand, that my friends is untold charisma, i was wondering if he was going to do the promo as 'dwayne johnson' or 'the rock' he started out as dwayne but you can tell the exact point that he turns into the rock, the guy still has it, john cena should take notes this is how the crowd is supposed to react to a top babyface and this is how you work a crowd.

If The Rock hosts RAW, I wonder what will happen if he has backstage vignettes with DX and/or John Cena.
p.s.________If the WWE do NOT use a Rock-hosting-RAW scenario to build a Rock/Cena confrontation, then they truly are a lost f'cking cause. |

I don't know who I would call the best promo man of all-time. The Rock is a pure force of entertainment, but I don't know if I would call him the best. Mick Foley is right up there, but truthfully, I think Chris Jericho deserves a mention, too. CM Punk could one day get there.
