Blink-182 - Summer 09 Tour, New Album

As we all know, Blink-182 reunited this year. Anyone see them on tour this past Summer? Thoughts on their new album to be released in the future?

I am as giddy as a 14 year old girl about this one. I know it's not "cool" to like blink when your a 20 something & a man..But fuck that noise these guys are pretty cool.

I grew up with Blink. So I think it's not cool to like them just because you've recently hopped on the band wagon. The people that have been with them all along shouldn't have anything to worry about my friend.

For me, it's easy. I'm going to like it regardless. There isn't much on this planet I love more than the music of Blink-182, and Angels & Airwaves. Tom DeLonge is a god.

see that's the thing. i HATE angels and airwaves. been a huge blink fan since dude ranch, and really only disliked take off your pants. but after their last sound change and then the break, i'm interested to see where the sound goes.

Went to Melbourne to see them live in 2004. Brand New opened for them and completely outshone them. Blink (well, Mark and Tom) were sloppy as hell: missed notes, forgot lyrics, and then joked about how badly they were playing. Fucking infuriating. "See, when we miss notes, it's like you're getting extra notes for free! It's exciting and unpredictable!" Blow me, asshole.

The trip was only made worthwhile because I got to see Brand New again the next night in a headline slot at a much smaller venue. Fucking excellent gig.

AVA and Blink are completely different so I always avoid comparing them. I am just a huge follower of Tom so anything he writes I really enjoy. I enjoy it too much in the opinion of the people around me.

lol. I enjoy their drunken stage banter. If we're talking drunk Tom slurring then no, but as long as they don't totally butcher the songs I enjoy it.

Not at the prices they charge for tickets. When they were a smaller band with low entry fees, sure, they could get away with it. When they're charging kids 80 bucks to see them, it's not much to ask that they're sober enough to not fuck the songs up. Bear in mind most bands come to Australia less frequently than they tour the States, so it's not like we have a wealth of opportunities to see some bands. It would be nice when we do get the chance that it's not a complete waste of time and energy.

Although a bit immature, Tom DeLong is a very good songwriter & song structuralist.

It's especially infuriating because it's not like Blink songs are difficult to play to begin with. Most have the same chord pattern in different keys, and are relatively simple 3 or 4 chord pop structures. And they've been playing them for years. Drunk or not, there's practically no excuse. When you have three notes to remember, you should not be missing one of them.

Can't disagree with that. However I was so excited so see them I would have blindly loved anything they did. Could have played an acoustic session in their bus streaming it to the big video screens and I still would have been screaming like a girl.

That's just how Blink is. Only the diehards can understand that. Jokes and shenanigans are so deeply routed in the band that it's just part of the show. They miss notes and stuff, sure. But then they make a joke about it and that's part of the allure. We shouldn't want to see songs performed just like the albums. Because then there would be no reason to see them. I like that each show is unique, and you never know what to expect. It's just the way they are and perform. It's not for everyone, that's for sure. So I can understand your distaste.

Pinback do it every show, and the Dismemberment Plan used to change their songs all the time. It's fine for bands to do that, but disguising and excusing overt drunkenness and sloppy playing as some kind of in joke that only true fans get is ludicrous, especially since I was one of those very die hards , and I couldn't help but feel majorly ripped off by the whole thing.

When I say diehard, I mean a person who follows the group regardless of performance, or value. After all, the very definition of diehard is one who tenaciously clings to something else. That's all I'm trying to say. A diehard is drawn to them, no matter what.
