What's the Deal with Diva's Matches?

Clearly very few people in the audience give a damn about what happens, Everyone on this message board takes a piss break or just mocks them, the talent is lacking because more emphasis is placed on their looks, and the writers clearly don't give any real thought as to what takes place.

I'm pretty sure the women who are watching would rather see the likes of John Cena, John Morrisson, etc... and the men would rather see he Divas accompany the male superstars to the ring.

Is there some kind of demographic thing going on where the WWE is forced to have this banal crap on to appease women's groups? Do they want to send out the message that if girls don't eat, and spend thousands of dollars on breast enhancement procedures; they too can become WWE Divas? There are divisions on both shows which just seem pointless

Its filler matches to calm the crowd or at least let them go to bathroom or get food since if crowd was hot the entire time, they would be tired by the time the main event occurred.

Divas matches hasn't been a strength in WWE shows since maybe at certain points in the Attitude Era but it never lasts long or as constantly as other companies do with their women matches. Same with cruiser-weights in the WWE as a division.

During 2002-2003 was the best era for women's wrestling in the WWE, all they were lacking at that time were four divas and that was Beth Phoenix, Mickie James, Natalya and Katie Lea. I know alot of men don't like women's wrestling, but I think at least half of the women in the WWE are better than most of the male athletes in some instances; Beth and Natalya for instance.

I think "the deal" is that it's some form of diversity. Something to break it up, something different here and there. I personally am a fan of women's wrestling. I know there's a minority out there who actually still watching wrestling for the wrestling, and as a result, enjoy women's wrestling (when done right) as well.

I remember tuning into TNA a couple of months ago and seeing a decent womens match (I don't remember who was in it). Every match I see in WWE is just fucking boring as hell.

I think that WWE is doing a bad job with filling their television time. They have a couple of hours for both their flagship shows and they fill a quarter of an hour of each of them with pure crap. If someone tunes in during a divas match they might just change the channel.

I think the Diva matches definitely have their place on the show as break periods or crowd-coolers, but they definitely could put some more effort into the angles. Half the time, I'm not even sure who the female champions are. They have some pretty capable women on the roster, but when they're just dressing them up in costumes to honor the closest holiday, they pretty much become a parody of themselves.

I think the last diva match I remember really enjoying was Beth Phoenix and Melina at the Royal Rumble. That may have only been for the innovative spot with Beth kicking Melina's head with Melina's own foot, though.

They have to remember they changed their name to WWE, and not neglect the entertainment value. If they aren't going to build interesting stories around the women characters, they need to let them actually show off in the ring.

All novelty of female wrestling is lost when you display it every week.

Yeah, I remember that. I would stick around and watch.

The matches used to be kind of cool when there were only 1,2, or 3 women competing at a time. Now they have way too many and can not develop proper characters for any of them.

They need to fix women's wrestling, plain and simple. Fix the wrestling. Fix the angles. Fix the acting. Fix the quality of the airtime they receive.

Fix the monotony of "X-colored Diva of the Week vs. Y-colored Diva of the Week" matches where they all have shiny one-colored midriff-showing outfits that look nearly the same from a distance. Fix the generic-ness of it all.

Women's wrestling was great in the late 90s and early 2000s. Trish Stratus, Lita, Chyna... they're basically the closest thing the women's division has to Legends. I can see Beth Phoenix being in the same league as those ladies... maybe Melina or even Maryse. Only time can tell. But as for right now, it just isn't good.

Not because they're female wrestlers. But because they're being misused or not used at all.

I think women's wrestling is a lot better overall now than it was in the late 90's and early 2000's. You had Trish, Lita, Molly, and Ivory back then, but that was pretty much the extent of the division. Chyna really only did one angle with Ivory as a Women's Champion. You also had people like The Kat, Miss Jackie, Terrie, and Torrie (Kane's Torrie), Tori (Kidman's Tori), etc. mixing it up when they were terrible.

The reason you can probably look back on it and it seems like it was better is because it wasn't as overexposed as it is now. Women's matches didn't happen every Raw and Smackdown and PPV like they do now. Instead, you had the women in bikini matches and gravy bowl matches and sleep with Al Wilson slap fight matches. So overall, the concept of the division is better in that the women are treated like wrestlers, but most of the women aren't ready to be competing at that level yet week in, week out.

Bass ackwards on the spellings. Torrie Wilson was Kidman's, Tori (did she ever have a last name?) was Kane's and X-Pac's.

Also, add in B.B. and Dawn Marie to that era.

WWE should get real here. Eveybody knows that some of the most exciting womens wrestlers come from Japan. If they brought in two really good Japanese women wrestlers, the likes of Bull Nakano they would elevate all of the women they have now, over time. They just to stop trying to get money from girls in Playboy all of the time. WWE could have the equivalent of WCW's cruiserweight division if they hired just a few great females from around the world. I don't watch any womens wrestling now, but I know that in the 90's there were tons of amazing matches I saw women in from Japan, that just blew my mind. And it wasn't all high spots either, it was just ruthless women doing it better and making it look more real than the men. It was awesome. I don't watch TNA but eveyone seems to like their Knockouts and that seems fine, WWE needs to simply stop hiring models, and hire like 4 or 5 of the top female wrestlers in the world then they would be set for a few years probably. I would really lke to see a womens division that drew like the WCW cruiserweights or the X-Division in the beginning. I have maybe onces looked forward to a womens match in my history with WWE, maybe, and I can't even remember the match if there was one, I just know it's a possibilty.

You were probably looking forward to Trish/Mickie at Wrestlemania, Jordan.

I know I was. And it didn't disappoint.

The word "Diva" alone implies some high-class celebrity status with no work involved. They need to stop calling them Divas. TNA calls their women "Knockouts", which is a really good term for their female wrestlers. WWE needs something similar... something that is feminine, but still strong and physical-sounding, for lack of a better term.

The shame is that there were only ever 3 womens wrestlers that could ever be considered draws: Fabulous Moolah, Wendi Richter, and Trish Stratus.

The sad part is the women matches are usually very innovative and quite often, wrestling wise, entertaining. The problem is quite often the women are awkward in their movements that it looks fake and a lot more botches, but if you get a good combo in the ring it can be very entertaining.

I hate that stupid leg split finisher Melina uses. Looks like it couldn't hurt a baby, let alone another Diva.

I believe that move is called the Primal Scream but I could be incorrect on this one.

If you want proof of the fact that women's wrestling still has a place in WWE, look at the triple threat match from last night's Smackdown (Natalya vs Mickie vs Beth Phoenix). Pretty damn good women's match, with the crowd into the match.

I watched that on DVR when I got home from work. The match was a complete exception to what I have been recently seeing on WWE TV. I thought the match itself was really entertaining, and afterwards they pushed a story along.

The whole time I was watching it I said to myself, "God damn, now I'm going to have to retract my thread on TPWW." I'll retract it when they put on some

Then again, it WAS Smackdown, which is what you watch if you want, you know, wrestling. But yeah, the match was awesome, and Mickie's short promo afterward was pretty damn good.

Smackdown was damn good this week. The wrestling was the top priority of the show and the storylines/segments did what they had to do to move the feuds along, no extra BS.

The women's match was just spectacular than the bland shit they have been feeding us for months upon months now. The segment after just made it even better.

I really wanted to see Matt Hardy drinking beer and eating a bag of Cheetos while playing SvR 2010 during the backstage segment with John Morrisson.
