In his new song "My band" Its sounds like he is straining. I thought he also sounded differnt when he came out with "the eminem show".

It's weird hearing D12 on a pop station my sister listens to. .

Purple Hills (Pills) and Fight Music never got play on the pop station. They did on the rap station, but right now, My Band is tearing the radio up.

Yeah like Stima said, they always refer to themselves as a group, they never call themselves a band. They only do in 'My Band' because they are taking the piss out of so called boy bands. Eminem has said that the reason they did the song was because the way the public percieve them is that he is the main guy and gets like all the credit, and no one cares about the others, so its like he is the lead singer.

The reason D12 hasn't ever been on POP stations is cause before "My Band" they never put out a single that was made for such...

I think what CoE means is that a so called boyband like Westlife arent really a band because they do not play their own music. A band should be defined as a set of people who play their own music. Therefore, they are classed as a boy group. Blink 182 would be classed as a boyband using those definitions. D-12 are not a band.

What I meant was to be a singer, you have to actually sing.

To be in a band, you have to actually play instruments.

D12 have no singers and aren't a band. "Boy bands" are singers, but not a band.

An instrument something that makes music that is used on stage. Turntables don't count, as they play prerecorded music.

Eminem produced alot on the first D12 album. Dr.Dre only did four songs on the whole album.

Em's production can be repetitive at times, but he's not bad for a rookie producer.

Im a Eminem fan (duh) but i truley hated "my band" There was no rapping involved it was singing in which eminem himself said he cant sing. I think the song is a poor judgment on his part. There are other ways he coulda went to get his point across. I dont listen to pop stations but ive heard about it being played and flipping through the channels i see the damn song on countdowns and not BET countdowns.

That is BS. Sampled, looped, or whatever - it's still an instrument. A onstage sampler that plays previously recorded beats is still an instrument. And turntables ARE an instrument. I don't think you understand how difficult it is to turntable well.

All true. But in regards to my previous post, turntabling with samples is in fact, onstage production/editting. While the turntablist himself is not responsible for producing the individual sounds played, he does have control over how it is played.

In direct definition of the word 'instrument', yes, a computer and its audio software IS an instrument. An instrument for live music? No. An instrument made to produce music? Yeah. I mean, if we are going to get technical, I could say a synthetic keyboard is not an instrument because the noises it makes are not natural. They are artificially produced... and previously sampled.

Yup, there are a lot of definitions of an instrument. A dentist checks your teeth with an instrument. Similarly, Eminem makes me feel like my teeth are being drilled.

Joel's right. It's kinda pointless to debate whether or not they're instruments. The issue is whether they're musical/editing/whatever in nature.

(BTW, I think scratching can sound cool sometimes, and all that, but I still see it as much a function of editing, like a fader, reverb, or pan).

Eminem was delibratley singing that bad though. In Halie's song although his vocals are still shit, they are nowhere near as bad as in My Band, he is taking the piss.
