ok, time for a new laptop...
this one is about 5yrs old, no warranty, i've flattened and reloaded more then once. I was looking at netbooks, but they don't have built in blue tooth and most only 1ghz memory.
So, I have my selections narrowed down to two laptops. one is 1.4ghz the other 2.1ghz, price difference is $800.00, there are some other differences but for what matters to me this seems to be the main one. So, does the speed difference of the processor really matter? or should I save the money and get the 1.4? |

$800 difference? That 2.1 ghz has to be multicore because anything near $1000 would be a rip otherwise.

Bam, that is a beast of a laptop (ignoring the graphics card, but you only care about that if you want games) with built in Bluetooth for $800 Clock speeds are beginning to matter less and less and it's more about the processor type now. Core i3 is a pretty good processor for an entry level one, much better than celerons of old Last edited by #BROKEN Hasney; 02-18-2010 at 01:02 AM. |

If you don't mind spending a little more, this would be noticably faster:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834127048 I know it looks slower because of the clock speed, but the one above has 2 processors at it's speed, but this one has 4 processors. |

This is a netbook but has dual core 1.6 ghz Intel Atom processors, 2GB of memory, Bluetooth and Nvidia ION graphics. Nvidia ION GPU will take the load off of the cpu when you watch HD content. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220659
If you're running programs that won't utilize the full extent of something like a quad core laptop but needs power then I suggest a dual core laptop above 2 ghz. It all depends on your computing needs and preferences. |

sorry for the delay, was out of town for a few days.
I'm looking at the Dell Adamo, seems like a good laptop and not very big or heavy. I've always had good luck with dells, plus I have a dell business CC so I can finance it. this one is $999 ADMIRE 1.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64-Bit 2GB 800MHz DDR3 dual-channel memory3 128GB3 solid state drive This one is $1,799 DESIRE 2.1GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64-Bit 4GB 800MHz DDR3 dual-channel memory3 256GB3 solid state drive Mobile Broadband2 I'm mostly a websurfer and e-mail person, I don't think I do much that isn't a office application with the exception of a database program I use but they claim it will work on anything over 1ghz, so I should be fine there. I just didn't know if there was a major reason to spend the money on the 2.1ghz vs. the 1.4ghz. |

I really am happy with Dell products, but would like some feedback on the price difference for the processor speeds of the two laptops i listed.
thanks in advance. |

Price difference is hugely due to the SSD size and memory, I think.
Judging from the habits you posted, I would just go with the 1.4 GHz, with the intent of upgrading the RAM to 4GB after you get it. |

If you're using databasing with Windows 7, I think the 4gb of RAM is required.
You can't add RAM on the customize screen though which is a pain, and with a lot of these ultra-slim laptops, you can't upgrade it yourself. I'd go for the second one if you really need an ultra slim model. Don't forget, if you intend to install stuff from CD/DVD, you'll need to buy a drive seperatly. You can add this in the customize screen. |

ok yeah, I didn't notice the cheaper one only had 2gb... the way they list it on the main screen was misleading.
what I really want is a netbook with 4gb ram and internal bluetooth, but i've yet to find that... or if I do they seem to be 1ghz which just sounds like it's to slow.... |

How much do you care about the bluetooth being internal? You can buy something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833320035
Cheap enough as an add-on. How about weight? There are a lot of laptops that have the same specs as the Dells, but weigh twice as much. |

ok, i didn't know they were that small I could leave them plugged in all the time. I just didn't want to carry extra stuff.
and yes, trying to go light as possible... ulta-portable. |
