Are there not enough fucking posts talking about the game in this thread already for you to get an impression of it? Is there not enough written already on the internet? Just buy it or shut the fuck up. No one is interested in you debating it with yourself, you prick.

I was merely asking if I will want to play anything else after I purchase this until I have completed it as it seems a game you will devote a lot of free time to.

Now go back to the MW3 thread and continue to goad me like a good little boy.

For those who have played Dragons Age, would you say this is as good or better.

Think Funky was Dragon Ages biggest supporter, but not sure if he has this.

I refuse to compare a strategy RPG and a first person action RPG based on the arbitrary fact that "there be dragons".

It's also Dragon Age, not Dragons Age or Dragon Ages as have been interchanged within the same post somehow.

El Fangel
11-26-2011, 11:19 AM
I wasn't looking to compare them on gameplay but rather story and how much you were impressed.

I plan on buying either way though.

#BROKEN Hasney
11-26-2011, 11:25 AM
The story in Dragon Age is better, as it's a linear progression with the full focus on the story. The story of Skyrim is fun to play, but the actual plot may as well be a post-it.

What about overall impression, like what would you give each out of 100.

I hate that you always ask me my opinion on things and are like "Ok good I will/wont buy that" and then you don't/do anyways or you always ask for more opinions.

Like how Dragon Age is still above Mass Effect on your play list, or like how you bought MW3 after telling me like 4 times that you weren't going to buy it. Or asking if I thought Skyrim was good and then saying ok I will get that, and then coming here and asking for more opinions on whether it is worth it or not.

El Fangel
11-26-2011, 03:45 PM
Until I actually have the game, I wont know how good it is until I ask.

Once I HAVE the game, I can discuss gameplay. How that's not apparent I don't know.

Also, I have been playing two games at a time, so once I'm done Bioshock, Mass Effect is up.

What about overall impression, like what would you give each out of 100.

Dragon Age (plus the day 1 DLC) was the perfect gaming experience. I got wverything I wanted and more out of it. Put in 90+ hours four separate times into that game. 100/100

Skyrim has a short, kinda weak main story. It can be finished in 2 hours. There is so much other shit to do in the game and it's so much fun to play that you'll probably put well over 100 hours into it. Plus it has so many winks and nods and sweet little touches (good samaritans "helpfully" returning items you drop). I've not sunk nearly enough time to give it a numerical score (I'm level 16), but it's definitely a must buy.

So yeah, I just made some kid happy for Christmas. His brother had an ad on Kijiji for MW3 offering $40 + Bioshock 2 (which I planned on purchasing anyways) I originally asked for $45 for my copy so essentially, Bioshock for $5 :)

Getting Skyrim tomorrow and also, Req, post that challenge for others to see. I plan on trying it myself.

Nobody plays Elder Scrolls games for the main story. It's all about the side quests.

Dunno what you're rambling about, but I found Morrowind's main storyline to be very engaging and exciting, and was absolutely (no lie) the only thing I did until it was completed.

Someone managed to do a little digging to see what was hidden in the Skyrim disc and apparently some areas that were in Morrrowind and Cyrodiiil were discovered locked away.

It wasn't just a quick template or placeholder but ended up being a complete low-res version of Morrowind’s Solstheim and Vvardfell areas along with the Imperial City in Cyrodiil.

What, no Mournhold, Knights of the Nine or Shivering Isles? Because if they're going to include Morrowind, Oblivion, and Bloodmoon, they might as well include Tribunal and the Oblvion G.o.t.Y. edition stuff too.

Hmm, learned a shout but it won't let me unlock it even tho I have 7 dragon souls.

Have you played through the main quest to the point where the Greybeards summon you personally up to High Hrothgar and had shout training from them? Because you can't do shouts until after that, and you have to go back to them later after the main quest part in question in order to get them to show you how to do any of the shouts you've learned on word walls.

I don't think that's accurate. AFAIK if you have dragon souls you can unlock any shouts you find. Or maybe I just didn't pay attention and you're right. It doesn't sound right though. Dunno.

Not I. I've only got 8.7GB of a 20GB hard drive as of right now to work with. Add in all the big games I've still yet to play (AC: Revelations, NFS: The Run, SR: The Third, MW3, and Batman: AC) in some form and I don't know if I'd want to take up precious space.

Although to be fair, I'll probably go to this little shop in town once I get money for X-Mas to upgrade to either a 60- or 120GB HDD.

My guy is a dark elf, mainly focused on destruction, but he has decent archery and sneaking skills, an I'm working on some Illusion stuff now.

Basically I built up archery and sneak so I get X3 for archery sneak attacks, and when I zoom with the bow, it slows down time 25%. Basically, I can usually sap some energy before an enemy, and then when they finally see me, I can blast them with magic. Pretty nice.

Found out about followers being injured the hard way today. Was walking around with Erandur to Nightcaller Temple and outside the front door we were ambushed by 3-4 frost spiders (I was level 12). Anyways I finish them off and find Erandur to be crawling across the ground barely moving a foot every 5 minutes. Thought it was a glitch for a good half hour. Did dishes while I waited. Then found out I could just "wait" 3 hours. Ignorance aside, it was a good day

Bethesda promises a lot of patches will arrive after the holiday season with the majority dealing with re-balancing the game's difficulty.

PC owners will also get preferred treatment when it comes to patches in terms of a lot more will be available and arrive faster than console owners. They are blaming Sony and Microsoft for the slower and stricter certification process.

http://www.screwattack.com/news/skyrims-pc-players-get-faster-service-those-playing-consoles

Also revealed was the save glitch issue for the PS3 version will be taking a long time to patch saying the problem is due to the game's engine and the way the PS3 uses its RAM. They don't have any quick fixes for that issue nor have seen it become a problem on the Xbox 360 version.

Just bought Skyrim, new, for £22 from GAME online. No idea why it's so low. I looked yesterday and it was £40.

I've not been following the game but it looks like it could be interesting. My one concern is playing it on an SD TV.
In my research, a lot of people have said the game is unplayable in SD while a few have said it is playable on their SDTV.
The rest of the replies boil down to "LOL SD TV!!".

I looked at a YouTube video of someone playing in SD and it all seemed easy to understand and read.

Like I said, I saw SD footage on YT and I could read the loading screen text pretty easily. It can't be that bad, can it?

I've been wanting HD for a while but I'm 23 and running my own house for the first time so I don't have the disposable income to spend £300+ on a new tv just so I can play games a little better on a console designed to be used on both SD and HD tvs.

I really think all games should be fully playable on either type of tv. It wouldn't take 5 minutes to have put in a text size selection. Rare patched bigger text in Banjo-Kazooie N&B after complaints so Bethesda can easily do the same though I bet they wont.

When they bring out Xbox 3 or PS4 and it's made solely for HD, fine but, when a console is designed for both SD and HD, that should be the case for everything about the console.

Bethseda says the v1.3 patch for the PC is available now while no news when the Xbox 360 and PS3 will get the same patch.

They did give a quick-fix help for the PS3 version's problem with saves.
* "Turn off auto saves. This can cause temporary stuttering since the PS3 saves these files in the background. This is most noticeable with large saves when fast traveling to a new area or entering a new area that auto saves.

* Clear space on your hard drive. Skyrim makes heavy use of the hard drive, and freeing up space on here seems to help many people. Hard drive speeds also differ in PS3 models. Some users have reported increase performance by upgrading their drives.

* Waiting for time to pass. Many things are running in the world depending on what quests you've done or places you have visited. Using Wait or Rest options, passing time will clear up some of these. It depends how long you wait, it may take up to 30 days for some items. Saving, resetting, and loading after this will have the largest effect."

Emperor Smeat

Once a save goes over around 5MB in size, it starts to cause a lot of graphical and gameplay problems due to how the RAM in the PS3 works differently than on the Xbox 360 and PC. Auto-saving on the PS3 manages to make a bunch of those files way too large than what the PS3 or the game is actually expecting but since its more of a PS3 issue than a game engine issue, it will take them a lot longer to get a patch finished.

Its not as bad on the Xbox 360 due to it sharing a lot of its structure with the PC although most of its problems are related to graphical loading glitches.

You should only have 3 auto saves. I turned off all the auto save options except for when fast traveling. Auto saving on menu got annoying, would always lag the menu.

$500 is not a lot considering the many uses a PC has compared to the very few uses something like an Xbox has. Especially when that $500 buys you something that is far more technologically advanced than an xbox.

Consoles and even phones can do anything a PC can do. Internet, MSN, email, Facebook, YouTube, music, movies, games.

If you bought a 360 at launch for £300 you are set for gaming for at least 5 years.
If you bought a PC at the same time for £500 you were set for gaming for 2 years, then you had to go upgrade which cost you even more money. You already spent £200 more than the console gamer and now, to keep up, you need to buy upgrades. I'm not sure how that's a good thing and considered superior to console gaming.

Loving this game. Was hesitant to get it at first, because I didn't get hooked on oblivion, and I generally don't really get into the fantasy setting as much as I do others. But whatever it was about oblivion that bored me, is absent from this game, because I'm having as much fun, if not more than I did in the fallout games.

Honestly think no other company can make exploring as fun as bethesda makes it. Just something about it that I can't put my finger on. Maybe it's just that ominous chill I get when I discover a hidden location and that drumline hits with something like "Bloodwind's Tomb Discovered." Or maybe it's the sheer terror of running into an enemy that I am totally unequipped to deal with.

If having vampirism is anything like it was in Oblivion, than it's really only a benefit if you're a stealth character.

I think the best advice I could give regarding taking a follower is to be sure you take one that has a healing/fast healing spell so they recover faster. Once, I didn't even touch a follower, we just ended up in this cave that was a vampire lair, unbeknownst to us, and he gets attacked by the vampire and gets all aggro and hostile on me because of the fucking vampire! :nono: Beat me till I died too, stupid fuck...

Otherwise, you should go to Farengar Fire-Secrets in the right hand side room of Dragonsreach in Whiterun. There you can buy spell tomes and other things from him as he's a mage. You can also learn how to enchant from him, but that's a whole another thing entirely. Anyway, be sure to buy the Healing Hands spell tome from him, as well as any rune spells you don't have (but be prepared for the humongous cost to your magicka for just one casting of a rune spell, it can cost anywhere from 170 some odd to over 240 magicka!!!). Go out into the world with your follower. Have fun, and if they get hurt and cannot heal quickly with spells on their own, select healing hands and heal them so they are at 100% health quicker.

Use the invisibility to sneak in, use charm to stop them worrying, feed when asleep, then go do the vampire cure quest.

That's the long (and somewhat messy/troublesome) way of doing it (get a black soul gem, kill someone (preferably in their home at night without being spotted as you'll be attacked by any guards or citizens on sight!) to fill the bsg, then take it back, and wait around until like 3AM in game and go to a designated island and stand where the guy says until he recites this incantation that cures you.

The simple way: Find plenty of Cure Disease Potions in the game (they are in abundant supply in dungeons, alchemists shops, homes, etc.). Take one and it cures all diseases, even Sanguine Vampiris.

On a side note, I think in Morrowind and Oblivion the common "scientific" name was Porphyric Hemophilia or some weird phrasing to that effect.

Not from just merely fighting a vampire. Only if you let them drain your health with their special vampiric spell thingy for an extended period of time. If you kill them quickly/stealthily enough (i.e. with sneak & bow/arrow method) without them "biting" or casting their vampire spell on you, you won't contract Sanguine Vampiris.

Bard's Leap Summit is a wooden plank at the very top of Lost Valley Redoubt (http://uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Lost_Valley_Redoubt).
After fighting your way through a group of Forsworn to get to the top of the ruins, you will see a walkway extending over the edge of a waterfall. If you jump off the walkway into the pool below and survive, a ghost named Azzadal (http://uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Azzadal) will appear. He will tell you that he attempted the jump as well, but that he obviously failed to survive it. He will then play you a song that will increase your speech skill by one point.

Note: I did this successfully with the help of using my "Whirlwind Sprint" shout right before I got to the end of the plank and jumping into the water below. Also, the person who posted this on UESP.net said you only get one speech point, but this may vary, as my speech increased by 2 points from 48 to 50.

Whiterun, from Breezehome go up the road away from the Blacksmith, turn right some dude need Berethar or something buys gems and necklaces. If its magic, try the mage in Dragonreach.

Also, something I have noticed is there is isn't a whole lot of variety of enemies is there.

Giants, Mammoths, Sabre Cats, Bears, Dreugs, Ice/Fire Mages, Necromancers, Bandits, Skreevers, Wolves, Crabs, Spiders, Trolls, Skeletons, Ghosts and Dragons.

Fairly sure I haven't missed many if any. If you have a bad character that kills regular people, then of course there is more.

I'd also like to know if anyone knows if killing the housecarl of a hold (not the steward) has any affect on the Thane of (whatever hold) quest for that area, as all I've gotten from attempting the Falkreath one after having offed Helvard for the Dark Brotherhood are the same "The Jarl has put out a bounty on the dragon in Ancient's Ascent" 3 times, and one of the times was from talking to the barkeeper in town instead of the steward. Damn it, I didn't know your housecarl could die. Was considering marrying that chick. Not to mention she was carrying a ton of loot which I had to abandon.

I had Vilkas from the companions in a Full Set of Legendary Ebony Armor, with a Glass Two handed sword with a fire enchantment.

Did a Stormcloak Quest to take a fort, and I cannot fucking find him now. He must be dead, but I cannot find his body :(

Anyone you have a brawl with at an inn will usually become a follower. There are several followers for hire, (soonest one is at the weapons shop in front of you at the entrance to Whiterun)

Some people will follow you after you complete a task for them. Later on there is a weapon that draws powers when you kill those people betraying them. So, its good to try to keep them alive until then.

Well this is fucking shit so far tbh. Start seems to drag on and on, and for some reason my settings are stuck on master level when i was just searching to see how many levels there were, now can't fucking change it.(even started a new game to see if it changed back to the beginner level but no luck, still stuck) Also my computer doesn't seem to be able to handle the speed very well even though there should be nothing wrong with it. Oh well.

edit: Fixed the level problem, gameplay seems abit better on a different resolution but needs to be better. Not sure if its just my computer though.

I've been playing a fair bit but I'm not sure I even enjoy the actual gameplay that much...just getting stuff done, finding stuff, unlocking things. The combat is absolutely woeful, I really hoped they would have improved it from Oblivion, better than adding a few finishing moves anyway. At least bring in an element of timing and weight to the proceedings. Combat is always such a massive letdown in Bethesda games.

I have Conjuration levelled up to 100 and have Illia following me armed with several staffs I've passed on to her (Chain Lightning, Fireball, Dread Zombie and the Sanguine Rose) so most battles end pretty quickly when I summon a Dremora Lord.

If I figured out the leveling up correctly, if all the calculations I did, which I won't go into to much detail about, except for figuring that every 20 skill level improvements (any 1 or combination of any and/or all skills) = 1 character level, that should mean max level is 79.

Can anyone confirm this?

Happy just to have hit 50 to get the achievement. I've got a few more achievements to do but I screwed up on the Oblivion Walker and really don't want to walk around to all the stones.

I might start over to do the Deadric quests over. Really wish there was a mission-do-over thing. It's pretty weird to fail something in a game in this day and age and not be able to fix it. It seems like a pretty ancient concept.

I'm criticising the game, matey, that's what the thread is for. I'm heartily pro-fun which is why I'd like the combat to be a little more nuanced than just twatting each other and hoping you have enough potions to win. For a game with such a teeming world, I feel like sloppy aspects of gameplay let down all that hard work, it's unsatisfying.

Stealthing around is good but obviously that is better in Fallout since you can pop someone's head from miles away with a sniper rifle.

I agree with ECG, the combat is a bit underwhelming especially for a melee one on one. It's essentially.

Whack
Whack
Whack
Apply Poison
Whack
Whack
Drink Healing Potions
Whack

Fighting multiple enemies

Whack
Whack
Run
Heal
Pot Shot
Pot Shot
Repeat

The world itself is gorgeous but the combat leaves a lot to be desired.

And Stealthing in this as well is a bit meh, A arrow to the head with overdraw should deal 4x damage not 2x.

Requiem
12-28-2011, 04:18 PM
Really, I don't see how the combat could have been different in a system that has skills that determine whether you succeed at a lot of things combat related. If they made it more contact based, I think it would have been too stiff and would have nullified a lot of the perks/skills.

Also, there are skills that increase the damage you do with your bow FA. Pretty sure there is one that makes it do x3 when stealthed.

Requiem

I find it to be fun. A well placed shield bash can mean a lot, and conserving stamina is a must (at my level, where I don't have fuck all stamina). Strong attack to break an enemy's guard, followed by a flurry of attacks.. a shout thrown in there maybe to catch the group on fire. Hell, even just starting off the fight with an arrow straight to the face before pulling out your weapons and going at it.

Dunno.. I mean yeah the combat is simple and there are only a couple things you can do with each weapon (which are different depending on what class of weapon it is), but there has always been a lot of variation in my fights. I've never been bored hacking away at someone, because you're only limited by how YOU play out the battle. Be more creative if you're bored. Find new ways to kill people.

El Capitano Gatisto
12-28-2011, 05:44 PM
It's not boring, the variety is great, it's just not implemented very well. Combat lets the game down badly in my opinion. Aggroing bystanders or companions during combat is an absolute fucking nuisance too, it makes powerful spells problematic to use. I suppose its probably in contrast to playing Dark Souls for me where the combat is excellent.

Anyway, I usually conjure a Dremora Lord so most battles don't last very long. Ilia can conjure Dremora Lords with the Sanguine Rose too so it's normally overkill.

El Fangel
12-28-2011, 08:38 PM
I went with the one-handed (waraxe) lineage in skills. I have two stamina based attacks and both of them are insanely devastating. One deals double critical damage and the other deals 1.5 I believe with a chance to decapitate.

Just seems like anything I match up against sans Giants, Mammoths and Dragons last 1-2 hits. I have the difficultly maxed as well and it doesn't make much difference.

I know there isn't much they could do with a skill based game like this in regards to combat. Just feels like its healing and tapping the right trigger alot. Lack of strategy is you will.

They seemed to make the game easier than Oblivion to get a bigger audience. In Oblivion the creatures leveled up with you. So even though you got better the creatures got better too.

So actually the easiest way to beat the game was to just to the main quest at the start. It's too bad they couldn't find a middle ground.

The difference between level 1 and level 35, is getting mauled by a bear and stabbing it to death with a dagger while naked.
