Where are the best places to get Daedra Hearts?
If you do the museum quest in Dawnstar, you are led to a shrine with a small room in it. There are two Dremora Lords there who respawn. Not sure how often they respawn. I would guess every two days, like shop stuff.
Anyway, it essentially gives you infinite daedra hearts.
Also, is the quickest way to level up enchanting to just smith a horde of iron daggers and enchant them?
And where can I find armor that fortifies blacksmithing as well as smithing potions.
El Capitano Gatisto
01-03-2012, 12:05 PM
Yeah just keep smithing and enchanting iron daggers. Enchanting them makes you ultra-money and also levels up enchanting obviously. Learn a paralysis enchantment, as it seems to be the most valuable. Takes a while but it's worth it in the end with the smithing levelling also to make the best armour and be able to smith Daedric weapons. Re-charging items levels enchanting as well I think.

I'm criticising the game, matey, that's what the thread is for. I'm heartily pro-fun which is why I'd like the combat to be a little more nuanced than just twatting each other and hoping you have enough potions to win. For a game with such a teeming world, I feel like sloppy aspects of gameplay let down all that hard work, it's unsatisfying.
Stealthing around is good but obviously that is better in Fallout since you can pop someone's head from miles away with a sniper rifle.
You can still sneak around bandit dens and the like and use a bow and arrow to kill enemies...it's actually been a very common tactic for me to employ, and works great if you take the perk that grants 3.0x damage for sneak archery attacks, the perk which allows you to zoom in with the LT (on X360), and both levels of the perk that slows time when you zoom in. Sure you can't blow people's heads off their bodies, but that's OK.
For the record I wouldn't change the combat one bit if there was a TES VI game down the road. There's really nothing they could do to improve it over it was now, since they've basically cut out the "all characters in the game start at the same level as you and level up with you so they're harder to fight at higher levels" BS that was present in Morrowind and Oblivion.
El Capitano Gatisto
01-03-2012, 12:35 PM
That's what I generally do as well, with my enchanted Daedric bow with a chance to paralyse enemies for 4 seconds. The zooming aim is good but the time-slowing perk I actually think makes it more difficult to hit enemies, I dislike it.

Fair enough. I'm only at like level 51 or 52 archery right now, so even with the zoom-in perk, it's still a bitch for me to hit someone where the crosshair indicates it should hit. I can be aiming for someone's upper chest and when I let go, the arrow hits my victim right in the forehead.:rofl:

I agree. It would work better if time still slowed for a second after you let go, but since it doesn't you still have to lead your shot and judge where the enemy will be.
Still though, I really enjoy stealthing around with the bow, now that I've maxed out the skill and perks.

I think he may be referring to a glitch that allows you to read from the Oghma Infinium, which is a skill book that levels a set of 5 levels by 5 points and it's only supposed to be able to be done once, as it disappears when read, except if you read from it and then almost immediately drop it into a barrel or a chest or something, take it back out and read from it again. Or something.
Or I could be dead wrong.

I believe when you're doing the College of Winterhold questline(could be wrong), you are sent on a quest that's in an ice cavern just north of the college. Once you do a task for the guy inside, Hermaeus Mora presents himself to you. Follow this and you'll have the book soon.

Yep, it's Hermaeus Mora's Daedric quest still. Best way to get it if you're not going to play the main quest for a while is to go to the wrecked Hela's Folly ship near but a little ways NW of Winterhold, and from there go east so you're on a heading a bit north of the College of Winterhold, and look for a cave called Septimus Sigmus' Outpost, go in there and talk to Septimus and he'll tell you how to get to the Tower of Mzark by way of Alftand which takes you to another area only accessible through Alftand.
What can I use the diedra heart for ? I notice people mentioning it and I have one in stock..

They're used for crafting Daedric armour and weapons. Daedric weapons are the best.
One of the Companions quests is broken in my game (Purity) and now means I cannot recruit any followers. Illia was dismissed when I started the quest and I lost a load of stuff I'd given her. All I really can be bothered doing now is the Dark Brotherhood quests as they work better alone, but it's annoying having a big broken part of the game. There's no way I'm starting over, particularly as it'll probably just break again.

Bethesda has said the upcoming 1.4 patch for PS3 users will fix the lag and save glitch issues people have been experiencing although no promise the save glitch will be completely fixed for everyone.
After receiving a lot of save files from PS3 users to discover the problem, they found out that the bug isn't being caused by a single issue that would be easy to patch up but instead from multiple issues. To make things worse, each problem seems to be dependent on the user itself which means a patch that fixes one user's save file might not be able to fix a different person's save file.

Not really, there is absolutely no shortage of apparel and jewellry in the game. The problem is finding merchants with enough gold to buy it. Plus when you get into the game a bit you neither need much gold nor have any shortage of it.
Making iron daggers and enchanting them is the quickest way to make gold.

I was supposed to put the knowledge from the scroll into a lexicon, but the machine gave me the scroll before the lexicon had the knowledge infused. Now I have the ████ing scroll and no way to finish the quest. My love for this game just took a nosedive as now I have to stare at the quest that I can't complete forever. I hope its not essential.

01-18-2012, 05:27 PM
You'll be fine. It's easily missed but you don't need it. I think you should still be able to go back to the machine and pick it up anyway.
I finished the main quest because I wanted to wrap up the game and leave it open for another play in the future with a lot to explore. It didn't go well.
One of the final fights resulted in the enemy becoming invulnerable and I had to restart the console. Good thing I looked it up.
Then in the lead up to the final quest I lost 30 minutes of saves, and it was possibly the slowest 30 minutes of the game. I think this is because there were Live connection issues and then I signed into live while playing the game, I can't think of any other reason.
The main quest is a bit underwhelming, and I understand what people mean by saying Bethesda are poor writers compared to Obsidian in New Vegas. The best parts about the game are the exploration and how well they've realised a world. People and their stories are stupider than they should be.

It's been recommended that you don't save the main quest for later in the game since the AI level system is different from Oblivion. I guess they assumed most people would go straight through the main quest first because of this. According to the guide, the suggested level for this final quest (on default difficulty)is 24, though anywhere in the 20-25 area is perfectly fine. Any level past 34 will however lead to disappointment.
Granted, this may have nothing to do with your disdain for it, but this is the common denominator of disappointment so there ya have it

Yea well the three AI's that help you do a bit more than they should and it still is a pretty easy fight for a higher character.
I was actually more impressed by the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild questlines. College questline is close behind, but Civil War line was too redundant for me. I expected more considering you learn more about the war than you do of Alduin in the beginning, but alas, just "go here, pillage, return", and so on.

Just wondered...what kinds of glitches/bugs have you all who've been playing this been experiencing? I've come across some pretty weird stuff myself. For example, once I was walking by this farm with a cow and it just randomly levitated into the sky for like 10 seconds.
Things of that nature...or like this:

Shadowmere died after fast traveling, the area loaded up, bam dead horse. I've had most of the people of Whiterun randomly appear while I was in an entirely different area of the map. The blacksmith at the skyforge just fell over dead after a texture pop in. Managed to get under Whiterun.
Those are the ones that are major/I remember.

LOL, Cool story bro. Just the other day I was in the alchemist's shop in Whiterun just fucking around and sneakily stealing stuff and whatever. Somehow I got into trouble with the guards and chose to fight to the death, except I never died because of my Close Wound and Grand Healing spells, that's not the bug/glitch. What happened was, I left the shop after grabbing some supplies and doing a little alchemy at her lab, walked back outside the shop, waited until it was late at night when everyone's asleep in game for the most part (I ended the combat by yielding and paying a minor fine). I reloaded the game from the autosave file, so it was still the middle of the night, and this girl who runs the shop is asleep, yet somehow she was still talking to me as if we were doing business, and it wasn't one of those things where she wakes up and is like oh, you don't belong in here, etc., it was actual small talk that you might hear if you were on good terms or doing business with someone. So weird.

According to the latest issue of GameInformer, now that they and Interplay have settled the lawsuit, there may be a TES MMO. Of course that's purely speculation, and Bethesda could just as easily do a Fallout MMO title.
Also, from what the article said Interplay has until the end of 2013 if they want to put out a DLC and/or on-disc compilation of their own trilogy of titles (Fallout 1, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics).

It is, I think the very limited range of enemies is what factored into it the most for me. It always felt like "Whack with axe, use healing potion" and repeat that until the enemy is dead.
Of course with giants and mammoths which incidentally are the ONLY thing in the game that tend to pose a significant threat at all I tended to use kiting and high vantage points to chip away with arrows before I went in for the kill.

Would probably be a no-brainer if everybody who's had it (the game, not Kinect) since day one hadn't already put several hundred (or more) hours into it. Just not really sure how exactly this is supposed to freshen up or expand the experience beyond what it already is. Must've been in the works for quite some time now, as the latest issue of Game Informer says the 360 version is set for a "Summer" release date with PS3 TBA.
Word to the wise, though: wait and see what the 2nd DLC expansion will be, then decide if either are worth justifying whatever cost to download them separately and have them "day one", or better yet, if they both look to be as great as they should be given all this development time, wait for the inevitable re-release of the game on disc as some sort of "Game of the Year edition" or "complete edition"...you'll probably save at least a bit in the long run.

It's about 10-20 hours depending on skill. So far it's been reported that you have to be level 70 or higher to fight the Legendary Dragon. Also the story has two sides you can take, giving it a replay option. All achievements are possible in one single playthrough for those that care about that thing.

If the review still doesn't convince you though, just wait a couple months until the after the 2nd DLC releases and they put both on a disk packaged as a GotY edition like they always do. I havnt looked at this whole thread to see if anyone else has dont this but I found a way through alchemy to have your health, magica, and stamina in the six or seven digits and be able to carry 1000000 units plus.
go to an alchemy station wearing a helmet, hands, ring, and necklace each enchanted to make potions at least 20% (can be lower, but this will take longer)
You dont need any perks in enchanting or alchemy as I have none.
Wear the gear, make a potion called fortify restoration.
Quit alchemy. Drink the potion. take off the apparel and put it baclk on and you will see that the % power on the apparel has gone up.
Make another fortify restoration potion and repeat the process as many times as you like. Takes me like 10 times.
I usually stop when the % is in 8 digits because theres times when the power goes to negative numbers when its that high.
anyway when you get to a level you want to stop at with your restoration, make a bunch of them, and then make a bunch of fortify smithing and fortify enchanting.
go to a weapon wheel or the place to improve your armor and drink a smithing potion and improve your item.... I personally have a sword that does 130549 in damage now.
you can use that enchanting potion to do the same thing.
Heres whats even cooler. you can enchant an item to fortify your health, stamina, or magica. If you have completed the quest that has an amulet that improves all three by 30 your good.
Drink your insanely powerful fortify restoration potion and then equip your items or that amulet and check your skills or active effects. if the numbers arent insanely high, unequip and equip again and they will be. The effect will then last until you take the item(s) off.

I don't see what the big deal is about the dragons, the dragon born is a far larger threat to the the country.

Yup, and Gothic 3 gets a lot of bad rap mostly because it was released in an unplayable state. But I actually like it as much as Oblivion after the community patch where the community made it playable.

I started anew on Skyrim and Fallout New Vegas, previously I had them on the 360, but switched to PC, greatest investment I've made gaming wise.

I bought Diablo III on launch, eager to have an experience like I had with Diablo II, one of my most loved games from my youth, but it ended up being really boring and dissapointing with the auction house nonsense and the auto skill assigned. Dumbed, WOWed down game. I lost interest before beating the first act.

You know what you're going to have to do, eventually, right? You'll have to take one of your Black Soul Gems and carry it around, then stealthily cast Soul Trap and kill the bitch, and voila you've got a BSG that you can make do whatever you want cause now a.)she dead, and b.) she trapped in a black soul gem, enslaved to you for the rest of her miserable afterlife (no username drop intended, btw).

Because...once you contract Porphyric Hemophilia, if you go for 3 days without seeking or obtaining a cure in time, your character is a vampire for the rest of their lives, and vampirism has never appealed to me as far as the TES games go. Although obviously I can't speak for everyone here who wouldn't want to be one, that is my personal take.

Yeah i definitely think the game is more fun if you are an archer or mage class. Swordplay needs to be drasticly overhauled for the next game. I think if they added counters and grabs as skill perks, that alone would reallymake combat more appealing.

Dark Souls combat minus the rolling would work excellent for the Elder Scrolls series. Different movesets on a per-weapon basis, and combat that really FEELS like you're hitting someone and actually blocking a hit when it happens. Keep the smoothness of not being locked on, since you're typically in first-person and aiming your attacks at someone, but make it far more precise and bone-jarring when you take a hit. Love the timing aspect of DS combat. Really love everything about the combat, but I think it could translate well into the ES environment.

Next DLC pack might be called "Hearthfire" based on recent trade marks made by Bethesda. Very possible PS3 owners might not get this pack either considering Bethesda hasn't fixed all the "performance issues" from the game which caused the 1st DLC pack to be skipped.

Dunno, I doubt they just started working on it right after Dawngaurd. I would wager it's something they worked on for the original game, but just didn't have time to fit it in for release. That is often the case for DLC of this nature.

Guess until the inevitable GotY (Dawnguard and Hearthfire on-disc instead of as a download using a web connection), I'll stick to keeping on with Oblivion. I just picked up a copy recently and have been playing as this imperial woman with mostly magic as major skills, so it's been mad easy to level up (any sort of dispel spell whether you have spells cast on you or not will increase progress towards leveling up mysticism, I'm sure there's examples of this in illusion, alteration, conjuration, restoration and destruction too). Spent the better part of an in-game month in Oblivion just using spells and then sleeping for 1 hour to level up over and over. Am only like 40 hours in Oblivion playtime and already at lvl. 27 and trying to figure out the path to take in the Great Gate in Bruma so I can shut it down and save Cyrodiil from Mehrunes Dagon.

I've remarried? A while after your wife dies (Lydia in my case), a courier comes and gives you some coin and a letter about your wifes death. Then you can go back to Riften and get another amulet.
