At least the Pats didn't give up too much for Haynesworth other than a 5th round pick in 2013. I guess he praised Belichick and the organization in an interview like last year, so maybe he'll actually step it up this year instead of being a lazy bastard like he was on the Redskins.
A part of his laziness was him not wanting to adjust from a 4-3 system in Tennessee to a 3-4 system with Shannahan and it didn't help that Shannahan was unwilling to adjust his defense to take advantage of Haynesworth talent.
Belichick can find a way to make Haynesworth work in any defensive system or even his current system without having any problems. Of course Haynesworth needs to work on his attitude problem since Belichick is even more stricter than his last couple of defense/head coaches.

Apparently the Jets don't have a plan B in case Asomugha doesn't sign with them. I think Dallas is the only big name team going after him in terms of willing to spend a lot to get him.
The team is asking everyone except Holmes to wait until they get Asomugha before even considering other players and most would need to take a big pay cut to stay. They are not even working out deals with other free agents until the Asomugha situation has an answer.
They lost Brad Smith to the Bills since he didn't want to waste the small window for free agency.

Yeah there is the rumor that the reason Samuel no showed for camp today was due to the team informing him of the trade and the possibility of letting him go instead of giving him a new contract.
I've heard the Jets are interested in Chris Carr as their 2nd choice for CB although that might have been in case they couldn't find anyone assuming no other big name was left or Cromartie left the team.

Fat Albert was a no show at Pats camp today with everyone assuming he failed a conditioning test while another rumor is Haynesworth is currently restructuring his contract similar to Chad Johnson.
Burress looks like he might be picking the Steelers over the Giants although ESPN is saying the Jets are currently interested in him.
I'd assume the plan with Young and Vick for the Eagles is to use Young for QB rushes plays and keep Vick for the passing because Vick has a better arm than Young. It could also save Vick's legs for later in the season or playoffs so he can be used in QB rushes.
Broncos are rumored to only be giving Tebow a 1-year window of opportunity as a starter and if it fails, they could trade/release him and go after Luck in the next draft if they are that bad. Right now the Bengals almost seemed locked for 1st pick with all the dumb moves they've made.

No confirmation on if the Colts can afford Mathis yet. I know they'll definitely sign Reggie Wayne.
Honestly think if the Colts were so adamant about saving money and having to make tough decisions, they should have only made one tough decision and traded Freeny, and KEPT Clint Session, Kelvin Hayden, and Robert Mathis.
If Mathis stays of course, I'll be happy. But Session is a beast, and Hayden hasn't let us down. Freeney just makes too much to be worth more than those three. His last deal was over 70million. Mathis has been more productive in recent years, and his career stats are almost as impressive, with a hundred more tackles and only 20 less sacks.
Mathis and Wayne are not FA's.
The Colts always let there linebackers go. Mike Peterson, Marcus Washington, David Thorton and now Sessions. And some dumb team always over pays for those guys and then quickly finds out that those guys only work in the Colts system.
Sessions wasnt even that great.
Trade Freeney?
Are you high?
Freeny don't even have to put stats up to change the game. Robert Mathis wouldn't be worth anything with out him. He draws double and triple teams every single play. He's a top five defensive player in the league.
Requiem
07-31-2011, 04:47 AM
We're talking about 3 players vs 1. I am not at all saying Freeney isn't an extremely useful player. But Mathis, Sessions, and Hayden. Other than Mathis, those were some pretty cheap contracts to just give up, given how productive the players are. We're talking about the money to success ratio here. Freeney was once the highest paid defensive player in the league, which is a lot of hype to live up to.
Hayden's been extremely productive every season since he sealed the Super Bowl win, even while missing games. When he plays, he's proven his usefulness.
Sessions put up an incredible 09 season, and I really doubt his injury last season was a career changer. He has huge potential, and when he was on the field, he was productive.
You can say Mathis wouldn't be anything without Freeney, but Freeney wouldn't be nearly as successful without someone like Mathis playing the opposite side. When Freeney is getting shut down, Mathis is the one making the plays. I'm sure Mathis has learned a lot from the master, but watching him play is equally as impressive. If Mathis was the number one DE and the team took a slightly different approach to the D, there's no telling how different things could be. They need to change some kind of dynamic in their defense if they want it to be more successful, and if there's one thing I've noticed about Colts defense, it's that they have immense trouble shutting down the run game, even with the duo. I cringed every time a Back slipped right through the middle and took off. And even then, Mathis is the one making the tackles when offenses go the opposite direction due to Freeney being there.
Yeah it's important to put pressure on the QB, but Freeney has been slowly tapering off these past few seasons. Just don't think he's worth such a huge contract when Mathis gets less than half that.
And Wayne and Mathis' contracts are both running out. There's no way they'll let Wayne go, but if it comes down to money, Mathis might go as he has a bonus coming up and the Colts are looking to save money. Colts could get a hell of a deal for someone like Freeney. A deal that could help them a lot in the next 5 seasons they've got Manning, especially if they still had those 3 other players.
Requiem
07-31-2011, 04:56 AM
Also, claiming a player wont work in another team's setup is just guess-work at best. It's even worse that we let him go to the Jags, who actually put up a fight last season. Hayden was replaced by a rookie. There's a lot of new blood going to the Colts, which is great if they end up being good. But they're losing a lot of proven players in the process.
Freeney did pretty good before Mathis came to the team. Hayden has been injured most of the last three years. Clint Sessions couldn't fight off a block if his life depended on it. And Hayden is not being replaced by a rookie. I wouldn't be suprised if the Colts went after cromartie, but if not, its gunna be Lacey
Requiem
07-31-2011, 05:33 AM
Freeney was only there a year before Mathis came and his best seasons were his first 4. He fell off big in the middle, and only picked it up 'somewhat' in recent years. They signed some rookie CB already after releasing Hayden. Jerraud Powers and Lacey would be an alright combo, but they are still both relatively new and they are still unproven in the long term. They are pretty good though. They're not household names, and they're not really scary to other teams. (not saying Hayden was either really)
Colts would do good to go after Cromartie, and he has said he would be interested in playing for them. But I don't know how good of a fit he would be, as the Colts typically don't deal with 'character issues'. Cromartie could clash with them.
Anyways, I'm just going off all the money compromises the Colts are having to make. Lot of new blood coming in, and I'm sure a lot of changes going on with all the new staff and staff changes going on the past couple years. Lot of new faces on the team in all areas.

Sounds like the grace period with the fans from the SB run is over, a lot of fans sound ready to run Reese out of town for getting the Giants into cap hell. I thought releasing all of those OL would give them enough wiggle room for the rest of the offseason, but I guess not.
I expect Eli to take heavy criticism in the media if he doesn't voluntarily restructure. As though its his responsibility to restructure before being asked.

I wish the Saints would go after Asante Samuels..
Former No. 3 pick Joey Harrington was seriously injured on Sunday night when a bicycle he was riding was hit by an SUV.
Harrington remains in a Portland, Ore., hospital with a broken collar bone, punctured lung and a cut on his head. The injuries are not life threatening and the former Detroit Lions quarterback is expected to be released on Tuesday.
He suffered the injuries after an SUV ran into him from behind. Harrington was biking home in an area without bike lanes when the driver, a 26-year-old man, drove too close and hit him. The man stayed with Harrington after the accident and cooperated with authorities. He later was cited for following too close.
Harrington's father said his son was wearing a helmet and was extremely lucky that the injuries weren't worse.
"The impact … put him up on the top of the car," John Harrington said. "Joey ended up upside down and came down on his head and shoulder and then skidded off to the side."
In his six-year NFL career, Harrington accumulated a 26-50 record, throwing for 79 touchdowns and 85 interceptions. He was drafted with the third pick of the 2002 NFL draft but never could recapture the magic he had at the University of Oregon. He led the Ducks to a 25-3 record during his career and a win in the 2001 Fiesta Bowl.
Harrington last played in the NFL in 2007 when he went 3-7 with the Atlanta Falcons.
That's horrible. Seemrd like a really good guy.

They were never going to get a 1st rounder since the new CBA means draftees make less money. But the fact that they officially dropped their asking price shows they want him out of town.

49ers the favorite so far in getting Braylon Edwards and have the cap space to give him a nice deal in terms of money. If he does sign, ESPN is rumoring it would be fore 1 year although a 2-year deal could be possible with only the 1st guaranteed.

So he wants to get paid...yet he's content getting his second surgery in 3 years, killing his value further. Not to mention the Giants still have him under contract for another year after this. By the time he's a free agent, he'll be over 30 with multiple surgeries and a bad attitude.
I partly think that the Giants should have just moved him for a 2nd rounder and hope the pick pans out - just to get this cancer off the team. But seeing him willingly sabotage his career to make a point is hilarious.

I hope theres some sort of Batman curse on the Steelers.
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers returned to training camp for an afternoon practice after briefly going rogue on Saturday. http://images.ibsys.com/2011/0805/28775748_200X150.jpg About a dozen Steelers suited up as members of the fictitious Gotham Rogues against the Rapid City Monuments in "The Dark Knight Rises," the new Batman movie that's currently filming in Pittsburgh.Thousands of black and gold-clad extras were recruited to play football fans in Saturday's stadium scene at Heinz Field. A Rogues logo was painted on the 50-yard line, and "Steelers" was replaced by "Gotham Rogues" in the home end zone. The fans saw Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward wearing his usual No. 86 jersey -- for Gotham instead of Pittsburgh -- and former coach Bill Cowher making his return to the Heinz Field sidelines, playing a Rogues coach.Other players included quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, Willie Colon, Troy Polamalu, Heath Miller, Ike Taylor, Ryan Clark, Aaron Smith and Brett Keisel."It'll be a fun, neat experience for us," said Roethlisberger, who joked that his teammates may need Screen Actors Guild cards now."Hopefully, I'll make the cut," Smith said. Just read on nfl.com that the Ravens landed Ricky Williams for two years. As much as I despise that team, it's definitely a great move to add depth in the backfield.

I guess either the rookie Daniel Thomas (I think thats his name anyway) or Reggie Bush. Either way thats a pretty shitty running back situation.

Can I ask why you needed shipping on tickets? They dont let you print them out?
I didnt pay the fed ex shipping, just the $15 service charge per ticket for the 3rd party seller.
There was a code for free shipping on orders over $100.

Williams and Leach >>>>> McGahee and McClain
Seems to me the Ravens are going back to running the football

Right, My question is why there was shipping at all. Like all of the tickets I have ever bought were digital downloads.

The 49ers definitely aren't going to try to tank for luck, I don't agree with the Alex Smith decision but if Harbaugh wants to get behind him for one last harrah then fine I guess. Maybe I'll be surprised. Probably not. But maybe.

Well..there were options for downloaded tickets but I chose the cheapest one and it wasn't an option. Plus I like the idea of having an actual ticket that I can keep and not a regular piece of paper. Not to mention the fact that I would have spent more money because shipping and handling was free but the fee to print tickets out wasn't.

I'm trying not to put too much stock into training camp injuries...but just like last year it feels like the Giants' injury list is growing by the day. It's almost like they didn't do one iota of conditioning on their own during the lockout.

Weird. Cant believe there is a Digital Printout fee for tickets in some places now. I like to have a physical ticket as well, was just curious.

He's right though. The Giants lost Kevin Boss in FA, another TE retired. Travis Beckum is pretty much a big ? and the "backup" TE is also the starting FB.
Furthermore, they lost one reserve CB for the year and Prince broke his foot.
It's the kind of thing where if this becomes a trend they won't even hit the ground running.

Hmmm well if te make the Super bowl I'd imagine he would be back regardless. I don't know about anything else though.
Also this signing says something about Jeremy Maclin's illness.

By this time tomorrow night I'll either be feeling good about the Ravens or I'll be wanting to go jump off a cliff somewhere. Probably the later the way things have gone so far. Right now for instance Tyrod Taylor is the Ravens backup QB given Bulger retired.
At least there will be chatter tomorrow night about him owning VT QB records where Vick played there a decade ago.

Wow...stunned right now. Honestly don't know how much Smith will contribute this year, but still. I just read today that Smith and his agent were telling teams that he was only interested in returning to the Giants. I hope it turns out the Giants weren't confident about his knee rather than Smith fucking them off on his own.
Guess the Eagles didn't get the memo that buying a championship in the NFL is very, very hard to do.
Are you going to cry about an average receiver right now?

Flacco hasn't missed a game yet in his career, but it would be nice to have a veteran backup QB. As it stands now the backup is actually Hunter Cantwell who has never thrown a pass in the NFL, but I kind of figure if they dont find a veteran (BRODY CROYLE is the hot rumor..lol) that Taylor would leapfrog Cantwell.
Its all I can do to not have Visions of Flacco getting hurt in the preaseason or something stupid though. I mean..Jake Delhomme, Daunte Culpepper, Brodie Croyle, Jeff Garcia..none of those names really has me thinking anything other than epic disaster.
Also the #2 WR spot behind Boldin is looking like its going to come down to Cotchery, Evans or whatever Rookie shows the most promise over the next 4 weeks. If the decision is Cotchery or Evans, Id rather have Cotchery..
You can't miss him. He looks like fat Tim Tebow right now.

If you have to go to any one of those Qbs for a long period of time, you have no chance at a superbowl.

<font color=goldenrod>Smith heeling it up on Facebook, saying the Eagles organization wanted him much more than the Giants. And that the Giants insulted him by not matching Philly's offer of $4 million for a guy with one knee. This despite him saying he only wanted to sign with and play for the Giants not even a day earlier.
What a phony. If a Giant takes him out at the knee this year, it might be the first time an injury actually makes me smile.</font>
How would you feel if one of the Eagles takes Eli's knee out?

Redskins
I still like the Packers, Falcons, Saints and maybe even Chicago cause Cutler might have a big year . The Eagles are not going to walk over everyone in the NFC. This talk is silly.
I'm hearing great things from Colts training camp.
Ernie Sims has everyone buzzing. Apparently he's been lighting people up when in pads. Could be a major FA steal for the Colts.
Also heard the Colts 1st round pick, Anthony Costanzo ( left tckle) has been going one on one with Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis. And the word is that he's holding his own very nicely. He might start.
It's going to be another one hit wonder in the NFC just as it has been for the last ten years or so.
Philadelphia is not a Super Bowl team by the way. Another free agent fluffed team that gets a bunch of hype because people base their predictions Madden XBox 360 player ratings.
