The 4th season was so much better than the 2nd and 3rd, but they'd damaged the core characters and plot lines a lot in those two. I lost count of how many times Sylar flip flopped between being a good guy and a bad guy.

"Don't say another Goddamn word. Up until now, I've been polite. If you say anything else - word one - I will kill myself. And when my tainted spirit finds its destination, I will topple the master of that dark place. From my black throne, I will lash together a machine of bone and blood, and fueled by my hatred for you this fear engine will bore a hole between this world and that one. When it begins, you will hear the sound of children screaming - as though from a great distance. A smoking orb of nothing will grow above your bed, and from it will emerge a thousand starving crows. As I slip through the widening maw in my new form, you will catch only a glimpse of my radiance before you are incinerated. Then, as tears of bubbling pitch stream down my face, my dark work will begin. I will open one of my six mouths, and I will sing the song that ends the Earth."

Netflix is going to drop around 1800 videos from their streaming library during May. Several of their licenses with studios and companies expire next month and won't be renewed.
According to InstantWatcher, a site that catalogs the comings and goings of Netflix's streaming catalog, the service will be saying farewell to 1,794 different titles in May. That number includes 15 seasons of South Park, old horror movies like Audrey Rose, and James Bond classics like Dr. No and Goldfinger. According to Slate, the drop comes because several licensing deals Netflix has in place with studios like MGM, Warner Bros., and Universal are expiring.

I got Netflix just for the convenience of browsing instant movies instead of choosing something and waiting for it to download, then copy over to my PS3 etc. Also they have a lot of older movies (especially on the US version) that are hard to find to download on the internet.
Anyways, as for Arrested Development, that'll be splashed over the torrent sites on day 1, so I wouldn't get Netflix for anything more than convenience.
Corporate CockSnogger
05-23-2013, 01:58 PM
I got the Netflix free month trial this week for Arrested Development. It might just be the UK version but there's not an awful lot of stuff in the movies section. Seems to be about 4 or 5 recent films for each genre and then the rest is just B movies, with the occasional cult classic in there. Looks alright for tv shows though.
It goes out of sync really quickly for me as we'll if I'm watching anything over 90 minutes or so. Probably just cause its on a netbook so it's not really powerful enough to stream anything longer. Won't be extending it after the trial period anyway.
A mate of mine was telling me how he'd managed to change his settings on his UK account so that he could access the US playlists. Should probably ask him how it did that.

I had the US version running by paying a few quid a month to Unblock US, so it bumped my total Netflix cost from £5.99 to about £8-9, worth it though for all the extra TV series and crap 80s b-movies.
it's free, you just have to change the DNS settings every now and again

if you're on 360, I'm not sure, you'd have to look it up. If you're on PS3, just go to the connection settings, go through the process of setting up your connection again and manually enter the US DNS settings, which you pretty much just have to type "US Netflix DNS settings" into Google to find
in fact there's a vid on YT from a guy that keeps the settings updated/valid

Gina Carano to Star in Liefeld's 'Avengelyne'
Proposed 'Underworld'-like Franchise
Published: 07/18/2013, Last Updated: 07/19/2013 03:47am
Gina Carano
Comic-Con News: Comic creator Rob Liefeld (X-Force, Youngblood) is teaming up with former MMA fighter-turned-actress Gina Carano (Fast and Furious 6) to bring Liefeld’s 1990s comic book heroine Avengelyne to the big screen. Avengelyne is the latest of a number of recent projects announced featuring bodacious 90s comic book babes including Chastity (see "Chastity Optioned for Movies & TV") and Painkiller Jane (see "Marvel Gets 'Painkiller Jane'").
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Scott Karp and Brooklyn Weaver are producing and packaging Avengelyne along with Carano and Liefeld. The hope is to create a franchise built around Carano in much the same way that the Underworld series is built around Kate Beckinsale. The quartet will begin searching for a screenwriter for the project next week.

Michael Lee gave himself a design challenge recently: redesign several popular comic book heroines (Vampirella is included, so I guess they’re not all superheroes in the classic sense) but keep them covered from toe to neck and wrist to wrist, without resorting to costumes that could be reproduced solely by body paint, while keeping the bold look of their standard costume.
Applaud the effort, but don't care for the results.

Spawn creator Todd McFarlane hasn’t given up on the creation of a second live-action Spawn film, even though it has been in development since 1998. The first Spawn movie debuted in 1997 and earned a total of $87.8 million worldwide, barely enough to defray its $40 million cost, but plans for a sequel were announced in 1998, and various projects have slipped away over the intervening years. Now however, with several extremely talented African-American actors such as Jamie Foxx expressing interest in playing Spawn on the big screen, the project appears to have regained some momentum.
McFarlane told The Gate that he is under pressure to provide a screenplay for the sequel, “The reality is that I have a lot of pressure. They want me to deliver a script by the end of the year, which would basically mean that we would be shooting next year. So that’s the goal right now.” McFarlane is talking about writing, directing, and producing the sequel, which means that he has to clear lots of time from his busy schedule to focus on the project.
As for the sequel itself, McFarlane sees it as basically different from the first film, “In terms of production, the Spawn remake will be a very different film from the original, a 60-70 day shoot… I think it’s a quick shoot. It’s not going to have a giant budget or a lot of special effects. It’s going to be more of a horror movie and thriller movie, not a superhero one. I’ve got so many people phoning me now that I have got to get it done. I’ve made some promises to people this year.”
The question remains will movie-going audiences remember the character after such a long hiatus from the screen—and it’s not exactly as if Spawn comics have much of the heat today that they had back in 1997. But McFarlane is promising to “get this project off the ground with some big names,” and it may be the cast, rather than the franchise that brings the crowds to a Spawn sequel, when and if one does materialize on the big screen.

If anyone is interested, Sonic is getting a new animated tv show arriving next year currently titled as Sonic Boom and would be available on Cartoon Network.
So far Cartoon Network has ordered about a year's worth of episodes (52 total).
The working title for the show is Sonic Boom, and it’s described as “a character-driven comedy” about Sonic and Tails, as well as Knuckles, and Amy Rose, and their ongoing opposition to Dr. Eggman. (When did we stop calling him Robotnik? Young people…).
“Sonic is the star of the Sega universe and the stage is now set for him to shine like never before,” Sega’s chief content officer for Sonic Hiroyuki Miyazaki said in a post on the Sega Blog. “By teaming up with world-class partners in television animation like Cartoon Network, Genao Productions, and GULLI, we’re ensuring that the Sonic legacy will be introduced to a new generation of children across the globe.

As of recently, Netflix has put ReBoot in its entirety on its instant-streaming and if that is not enough to make your inner geek squeal, Rainmaker Entertainment (the company who was responsible for ReBoot as well as the Beast Wars series) has just announced the renaming of their TV development series as "MainFrame Entertainment" with the even bigger announcement that they will be bringing a sequel series of ReBoot back online!

It’s been a while since anything newsworthy has broken for the long rumored, Dan Aykroyd passion project known as GHOSTBUSTERS 3. So many stops and starts for the long-time planned, third chapter of everyone’s favorite team of paranormal exterminators.
Now comes word from The Phantom that there is some movement (finally). Said movement has to do with TWO ACTORS that have been offered deals for the Bill Murray-less sequel.
We have it on good authority that none other than Jonah Hill and Emma Stone have been offered the parts of Jeremy and Anna respectively.
No word on who the hell Jeremy and Anna are in the overall story of GHOSTBUSTERS 3. My guess, they are the son and/or daughter of one or two of the original members of the team and will be picking up where their fathers left off.

Actress Emilia Clarke will play Sarah Connor in the Terminator movie reboot, according to Deadline.
The casting reteams Clarke with her Game of Thrones director Alan Taylor, where she plays Daenerys Targaryen. Jason Clarke (no relation) will play her son John Connor (see "Geek Movie News Round-up"). Schwarzenegger will also be back in the role he originated (see "Arnold Confirms Involvement in new 'Terminator' Film").

If its a reboot then he's probably in it because they designed the robots with the same model in both universes.
Arnie in it doesn't mean he's the same robot from first movies.

He's never the same robot anyway, I was thinking more in line in how the franchise's premise allows for any version to be official cannon. T1, T2, and T3 exists along with Salvation and SCC. It seems T2 is the major break, though. I'll have to see the new movie and (supposed) TV show to be sure.

Another Tekken movie was also recently picked up with plans for a prequel to the 2009 Tekken film currently called "Tekken - A Man Called X" to be in development soon.
There's another Tekken movie coming out, Cinema Today reports. Inexplicably, it's a prequel to the Tekken movie that came out in 2009 that no one cared about ...
Incidentally, handsome Dead or Alive actor Kane Kosugi will be starring in A Man Called X. Prachya Pinkaew is directing, so it could actually be okay, too. I've not seen Ong-bak, which Pinkaew is most known for, but some of the fight scenes from Chocolate were quite good, so hopefully we can expect as much.

Goku, who's known to be one of the most powerful fictional characters ever created, has a mother and she will soon be revealed. Yes, while we may have never actually noticed it but Goku's mother was never revealed or mentioned in any of the actual Dragonball manga's/anime's.
All we know right now is her name is Gine (which is Japanese for spring onion) and is gentle. Saiyans are usually known to be brute creatures but her personality focused more on being more peaceful. This leads us to believe that her genes may have influenced Goku's affection in becoming the peace loving fighter he is known for. The reveal is set to take place in a special manga that will be released on the 4th of April.

Warner Bros. Animation and DC Comics made a major announcement earlier this week concerning the future of the DC Animated films line, and part of that future is a film based on Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham Asylum.
What does the future hold for the DC Animated brand? Well, Warner Bros. Animation has decided to mostly ditch the strategy of adapting beloved graphic novels (like say The Dark Knight Returns or Justice League: New Frontier), in favor of developing a new Universe throughout the course of several interconnecting films. It will consist of stories loosely based on the recent New 52 reboot, as well as some original story arcs. Think of it as being similar to Warner’s plans for the upcoming Batman Vs. Superman movie…or more accurately, the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The first film under this new initiative is Justice League: War, which was released on DVD this past Tuesday. This particular movie is appropriately based loosely on the Justice League: Origin storyline from 2011’s New 52 launch.
So you might be asking yourself, “how does this Arkham movie fall into the plan?” Well, it doesn’t.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. plans on producing three DC Animated movies per-year. Two of which will be a part of this newish continuity and the other won’t, meaning it’ll be an original or classic story that doesn’t fall within The New 52. This year, Batman: Assault on Arkham is that movie.
Not much is know about the film at this point, other than JL: War director Jay Oliva will be leading the project and it’s storyline won’t be 100% faithful to that of Arkahm Asylum, if its IMDB page is any indication. Based on that, we can report characters from all three Arkham games will be making appearances and the voice actors from said games will be reprising their roles.

IDW has announced that co-creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird will produce a special 30th Anniversary issue for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles this May.
The issue will mark the first time in over 20 years that Eastman and Laird, who co-created the Turtles in 1984, have worked together on the TMNT property. Eastman has been working on IDW’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic since 2011 (see “Kevin Eastman to Write New 'Turtles' Comic”), but this is the first time co-creator Laird has returned.
The 48-page, full-color 30th Anniversary Special will include short stories from different creators who have worked on the property. Each story will be inspired by different eras of the TMNT history, and will all feature a unique look, feel and voice. Dean Clarrain, Chris Allan, Gary Carlson, Frank Fosco, Jim Lawson, Tom Waltz and Dan Duncan will all contribute.
The current animated incarnation of the Heroes in a Half-Shell airs on Nickelodeon (see “New 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle' Toon Debut Set”) and the new CGI/live-action hybrid movie from Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Films’ debuts in August (see “Live-Action 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' Delayed Again”). The sequel's director, Ivan Reitman, is scheduled to meet with Sony production brass in the coming days to assess how to move forward on the project, which is in active development, according to sources. Three geek movies, Ant-Man, Sandman, and Minecraft, advanced on Thursday.
Patrick Wilson (Watchmen) is in negotiations for the last major role in Ant-Man, according to Variety. His role has not been disclosed. Ant-Man is now set to be released July 17, 2015, with Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas starring (see "Disney Moves 'Ant-Man' into Vacated 'Batman vs. Superman' Spot").
The Sandman movie being developed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt and David Goyer (see "'Sandman’ Movie") now has a writer, Jack Thorne, who’s done mostly TV work, according to Deadline. Thorne will work from the treatment by Goyer, who’s written a bunch of comic-based movies including Man of Steel and the Batman and Blade trilogies.
Anybody that’s been going to comic conventions for the last few years has seen more than a few attendees dressed as the pixel heads from Minecraft (see, for example, "Wizard World’s Chicago Comic Con Photos--Part 1"). Now that geek passion is going to be harnessed by a feature film; Warner Bros. has acquired the movie rights, according to Hollywood Reporter. The videogame has sold over 35 million copies for consoles and 14 million copies for PCs since its 2009 launch.

I don't know if this should go in some comic thread that I haven't noticed, but as this is the 100,002 Replies thread, I'll ask here.
I'm really not a big comic book guy, so I'm pretty much clueless when it comes to the majority of comic related stuff, but there's a six issue miniseries that I've been wanting for some time (since 2009 to be exact) but I could never find them for sale over here.
Now, they seem to be available on Amazon but issues 2-6 are sold out and I don't know if they'll ever be in stock again, but I doubt they will be. I have however came across a website that's based here in the UK that's selling all six issues as a graphic novel.
My question is, what's better when it comes to comics? Having each issue as a separate comic, or having them all as one big graphic novel? Or does it make no difference at all?

I prefer having them in collected form when it comes to paper stuff.
No ads, for starters. It's personal taste more than anything else really.

I prefer collections just because they take less space and are easy to put on a bookshelf.
However, I miss getting monthly comics so bad. I feel like the only advantage to them, though, is that you can "open them up wider", which is sometimes helpful for double page spreads. Double page spreads definitely work a lot better in single issues than trades.

Mostly because I loved the first game and I wanted to give the comics a go, as Rhianna Pratchett had pretty much complete control over its story unlike the games story, which was alright, but she had to work around what DICE had already done when she got called in for the job.
With the comics, it's all her.

I'm not a comic guy though. Never have been.
I've never really found them interesting. Or at least as interesting as everyone else does, especially these days.
The closest I get to reading comics/annuals are ones of the Beano, Dandy, Topper, Beezer and The Broons and Oor Wullie. Bascially, old Scottish/British comics. Mostly because I grew up reading them all.

The Bourne Identity, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and Jumper director Doug Liman is in final negotiations to direct Ubisoft and New Regency's Splinter Cell film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The adaptation is expected to release next year, with production starting in August. As a reminder, Tom Hardy is set to play the man himself, Sam Fisher.

Just days after Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman decided, in the wake of the death of his friend and Ghostbusters writer/star Harold Ramis, to step down from the directing chair, it appears that Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the team behind the hugely successful LEGO Movie (and the big screen adaptation of 21 Jump Street) will take over the long gestating third Ghostbusters film.
Reitman will remain as a producer on the package, and he told Deadline: ““We now have a draft that is very good, that the studio is very excited about.”
In addition to breaking the news of Reitman’s departure from the director’s chair, Deadline also broke the news that Lord and Miller were the top choices to replace Reitman and at last shepherd the third Ghostbusters film to the silver screen.
It has now been 25 years since Ghostbusters 2 debuted in 1989, but the property remains popular enough to have spawned a recent comic book adaptation from IDW (see “New Ongoing Ghostbusters Title”). According to Reitman, Ghostbusters 3 will focus largely on a new group of ghost hunters, and it still appears likely that Bill Murray will not be in the film (see “No Bill Murray in Ghostbusters 3”).

THat happened to me back in 2003 and is happening again this year. I watch 4 shows. Two of which have their final season this year. I doubt I add any shows to my watch list.

Hollywood insider website The Tracking Board is reporting today that a big-budget Sonic the Hedgehog film is currently in production over at movie studio Columbia Pictures.
According to the site, the movie will be a “dark, edgy version skewed towards older audiences,” and will be a mixture of live-action and CG animation. (I’m picturing a project done in a similar fashion to films such as Garfield or Alvin and the Chipmunks, just obviously with a much different overall tone.) With how the Sonic series has evolved over time, and the introduction of far more human characters to the world, this isn’t as surprising a direction as it may originally seem.
Speaking of Sega, The Tracking Board reports that Sonic’s developer is joining up with Original Films to finance the project, with Neal Moritz and Toby Ascher producing. There’s also a supposed shortlist of writers for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie, including Wernick & Reese (Monsters Inc., Zombieland), David Rerenbaum (The Spiderwick Chronicles, Elf), Phil Johnston (Wreck-It Ralph), and the pick I’d personally go with, Brad Bird (Incredibles, The Iron Giant).

Bought some Manga which arrived today.
I wouldn't call myself a big fan of Manga but I decided to give "Street Fighter: Sakura Ganbaru!" a go, as I like the character and the story sounded interesting.
Also, with there only being two volumes, they were pretty cheap.

Ridley Scott of Blade Runner, Alien, and Metroid-inspiring fame will produce a digital feature based in the Halo universe directed by Sergio Mimica-Gezzan, TheWrap reports.
According to TheWrap, the project will be live-action and hit before the year ends. And while it will tell the story of a “surgically enhanced super soldier” the armored space warrior won’t be Master Chief.
Paul Scheuring, creator of Prison Break, is rumored to be the project’s scribe. This Ridley Scott–produced Halo feature is not related to the Xbox One TV series being produced by Steven Spielberg.

Ridley Scott needs to quit this Halo nonsense, and get back to Prometheus 2 and Blade Runner 2.
Though I'm kind of conflicted on a Blade Runner sequel.

TheWarp website says its live-action and likely to follow what was done with "Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn" than as a short film or anything in the scope of what Spielberg is doing.
