SvR '08 was terrible. Only good things about it were tournaments and the fact that Edge & Orton were a preset team and used the Rated-R.K.O. theme.

It was alright but they took a bunch of shit from SvR '06 that wasn't broken (i.e. table mechanics) and tried fixing it and as a result, while still a solid experience, nonetheless felt like a HUGE step down from the previous iteration.

Found a few things interesting such as the WWE added an extra year to the Ruthless Agression era so it now officially ends in 2008 instead of 2007. Also the name of the current era is officially the "WWE Universe" era.

You can make your own feuds and watch the repetitive sporadic cutscenes over and over again, just with your wrasslers of choice!

That's as far as I got before my weak stomach couldn't watch anymore.

Rivalry options are back, they look similar to the old GM mode settings. This also seems to sort out the problems last year of cutscenes rarely appearing.

Also, you can assign a default attire for your superstars which is cool.

There's also the ability to book the KOTR tournament inside of Universe mode.

You can set how many matches are on shows. Major shows can be 5-7 matches, minor are 3-5.

I'm just hoping it works as advertised this time round, but I guess the 30 years of WM mode is attractive enough to warrant a purchase. Also, Kaitlyn being in the game :D

<font color=goldenrod>Definitely skipping this this year. Seems like essentially the same exact game as last year. WM mode could be fun, but the reality is I'd probably never use any of the legends outside of that mode. Universe is almost strictly kept to current guys for me.

Speaking of which, Universe barely seems to have changed at all. I have no doubt the branching storylines will still be broken and non-usable if you dare to change anything about the card the game pre-generated for you.</font>

Yeah! 100 CAW slots I'll never ever use because they've made CAW too longwinded, dull and time consuming since SvR! Hurray! Probably still can't pit my CAWs against my brothers CAWs even though we're on the same damn machine! Woohoo!

Used to love CAW so much I'd fill every slot and often have to delete people to make new ones. Now it sucks and I barely, if ever, finish just one. :(

It's not just the physical side, it's the moveset side aswell. Feels like it's a never ending list of moves and situations to sort out.

If we could have my CAW and my brothers CAW fight each other, maybe I'd be more motivated to actually finish making them. That's all I ask every single year.

We shouldn't have to do that. If we did, that would mean both of us having gold and my brother isn't going to spend a minimum of a £5 or £6 to download my characters.
It really isn't asking too much that they let us access both.

"Too much of a good thing" and all that. I love customisation. There are games in the past I bought purely for the customisation.
The main issue is the moveset. Something crazy like 85 different situations to select moves in and 300 moves to choose from. Those numbers are likely inaccurate but you get the idea.

If I have 45 minutes to kill, I can throw togethor a character...then I remember I have to spend 2 and a half hours sifting through move after move after move. That gets boring after you do the first 5 moves.

If I had motivation to do it, like fighting my brothers CAWs or some kind of online that worked and was fun, maybe I'd finish the movesets.
I know I can copy another wrestlers moveset but then it's not really my CAW, it's a new skin for Kane/Undertaker/Big Show etc.

Back on the physical side of CAW, 80% of the clothing options are hideous, 10% are other wrestlers and 10% are stupid. If I want to make Sting, Mr Perfect, Vader, Generic tough guy, Generic slutty diva, Generic broody goth gimmick or a cariciture of a cop/clown/chef/jock/foreigner/guy-in-a-gorilla-costume I am in a good creation suite for it.

It's also annoying that the call names for hometowns include a huge number of American cities and then just the capitals of every other country, more or less. Because everyone from Scotland lives in either Edinburgh or Glasgow. The rest of the country is just forests, mountains and castles.

Doesn't matter, WWE is primarily an American brand. If the developer went out of its way to record hometown calls from your region, they'd have to do it for everybody. They don't list Japanese regions and the game is made there. What about fans in Mexico? Iceland?

Being "even" in this case wouldn't be feasible nor worthwhile; it's not like some guy in New Guinea's gonna buy the game because his hometown's name is available for CAW intros. Hell, I don't care that Miami is in there. Your beef is strange in the way people who want their country represented in a Street Fighter game are. Like, of all things to hold a game to.

It's realistic to the WWE product. The Mountie was just billed as from Canada, Tajiri/Kaientai from Japan.

What gets me about modern guys as DLC is what exactly forms the disparity between WWE Superstar #1 who's selectable at launch and WWE Superstar #2 who is DLC. I mean, making a wrestler premium, in my eyes, means they are of some value beyond the others.

If Goldberg or Dean Malenko was DLC, I could get that. Eddie and Juventude as well. Super recent addictions to the roster who didn't make principle development also makes since. But some guy who's a regular? Strange.

There's a lovely bug against the CPU on the PS3 version when you're whipped into the ring and you're in that position with your neck under the bottom rope. If you reverse the AI grapple, they'll just stand in that one spot trying to grapple you for eternity and you get an easy count out victory.

Other than that, the engine hasn't changed at all. I'm not talking a minor iteration like Madden or FIFA, I'm talking nothing gameplay wise has changed whatsoever. Even got the same physics bugs in the same spots with people contorting all over the place when slammed onto the steps.

To be honest, I was a little dubious about it. Bought it on release day anyway.

It's awesome. Gameplay wise it's not a lot different. But story wise it may be my favourite of the trilogy. It's definitely at the same level of the other two, which surprised me.

I'm getting this in two weeks so I have some Qs:

- Are the stats for CAWs a fixed amount or 'grindable' to raise them? I much rather have fixed stats that you allocate to have reasonably competitive matches online.

- Can created arenas be selected for online games. For instance, can I create a TPWW Arena and host a game where we all fight in that show.

- - If not, would you guys have to download the arena in order for it to work?

One issue I'm having so far after winning the MITB case is the game won't let me cash it in, this is in Universe mode obviously, but yeah, whenever I select a possible victim on the card I don't get the option :(

Edit - Nevermind, it was because the CAW I downloaded was set to the Legends brand, put him on Raw and was able to cash in the MITB, groovy.

If you haven't already, look up Dre41's work in community creations. Only a few guys up so far, but what he has is better than anything else in the community. Goldust is particularly good.

<font color=goldenrod>Just came closest with Jericho using a similar tactic, took like 14 minutes. Beat the shit out of him outside, only went inside when I had finishers stored up. Manage to withstand most of his antics (lights going out and him appearing behind me, etc.). Got him with another Codebreaker and thought I finally had it. Then he locks me in the Hell's Gate out of nowhere and I tapped without having a chance to stop it as I was in critical damage by then.</font> :(

I'd be up for a CAW "show". It would give me incentive to actually use CAW mode. I don't actually have the game right now but I should have it today or tomorrow. Give time to get used to it, see if I like it and to get my CAWs as I like them and I'd be ready.

I just found out about a sweet game capture device so I don't know if I can snag 2k14 next week, plus I need to get into Splinter Cell SvM. I'm... torn.

I still have lots of Battlefield and GTA Online to do (and I am returning to GTA Online). Then again, an online fed/show is something I've wanted to do with you guys for years. Years. The stars have aligned and many of us are online now.

If it's just us having matches that's fine too, because I wouldn't know how a persistent promotion would work, even if I had ideas way back when. I've learned not to over complicate things.

Seen some vids of online matches. People are being bitches there, fuck that. I'd only play with you guys. And I do like to put on a good match rather than go for a win, since the game was never designed to be played like that. I would have hoped the CAW would be adjusted, though.

I'll say this much, you beat with something off a wrestlers profile like a random headlock don't expect to play me again. Me and my bud would earn or sometimes 'allow' 3-counts with a deserving finish. I hope you guys feel the same.
