So WWE '13 had a very impressive story with the re-telling of Attitude Era mode, a wonderful idea and a nice change from the previous years with the simple Road To Wrestlemania, even if WWE '12 was alright with the different stories one after another.

But this makes me wonder: How will they top this? What will they do for WWE '14? Will they go back to RTWM? Try something else? What sort of ideas could they do?

Western developed wrestling games are historically utter shit, so whenever they take full control the odds are against them. If they don't keep Yukes in some capacity, they better take notes and for the love of god:

Listen to wrestling game fans. Unlike fighting game fans, and more like sports game fans, they have a damn good handle on what would make a good WWE game. The past games that were the most fan approved were when they took fan input especially serious.

No Road to WrestleMania, no Attitude Era, no story mode at all. Take all of the time and energy that would go to scripting a linear story and expand the hell out of Universe. Voice-over, better cut scenes, deeper branching stories, and even more customization.

I want more CAW slots. I want to be able to, at it's extreme, run two different shows with exclusive rosters of nothing but original CAWs. Theirs and the TV show themes would be custom. Creation is in the DNA of wrestling games (best in the biz, imo), now blow it the fuck up and don't you dare walk backwards.

Without being able to pit my guys against his, CAW is meaningless to me and, as a result, the entire game becomes meaningless to me. Any of the guys that played Soul Calibur V with me knows I love creation mode. I'd seriously buy a game in which I had to create every character and stage myself.
Attitude mode was briefly entertaining but, since this crap, I've barely touched a modern wrestling game.

My save and his save are on the same console. We are both signed in. Where is the hard part? Ok, I can understand if I can't use his guys but I should, at least, get access to my own.

They're still targeting a fall release so there's just not enough time to put together a game that is markedly different.

Universe mode is where the replay ability is at. Attitude era was great, but I'm not going to go back to those matches all that often. Agree with tommy gunn and vito Cruz here. Universe mode has so much potential. Really wish that would be a focus.

Royal rumble related storylines leading up to the ppv where they have matches to determine who gets #30.....qualifying matches for money in the bank.....

When you get to wrestlemania nothing really stands out. You don't really feel like you're at "the showcase of the immortals.". Just another ppv at the end of the month.

If they could get the Dudleys and Hardys into the game that would be a huge boost as well - but Angle is the one guy that would have to be in there.</font>

Not sure exactly how TNA contracts work for that kinda thing, they had Hogan in LoW while he was under contract there but not sure if that was a pre-arranged deal or what. Honestly don't think TNA would refuse them going into a game though, they release guys to jump ship after all.

The best story-modes in the games to me were the ones that loosley matched up with the previous year. The one that had the Hulk/Rock handshake storyline from WrestleMania 18 and somebody being offered a movie role and having the mode end abruptly if you talked about an upcoming movie project instead of saying when you'd return to the ring.

Say what you will about the gameplay, but thq's creation suites are absolutely incredible. Even as a kid fantasizing about my perfect wrestling game, I never could have imagined the things you can do in WWE 13.

Yeah, I just hate that you have to use saved highlight clips from only one match when I want to be able to use clips from several matches showcasing different things such as part of my guy's entry, perhaps a signature and finisher and maybe a pose or two from different matches. Is that really so much to ask?

Also, I want to be able to choreograph/time entrances down to the split-second if I so choose, a la WrestleMania XIX where you can choose how long each scene takes. God that was a great feature of the entrance creation in that game.

Actually yeah for now that is too much to ask. It was kinda amazing they even got encoding in the series to begin with which was why I gave the limited CA-Titantron a pass last year. What you're asking for is a full video edit app. Don't get me wrong, a 'guys in the trucks' production mode would be incredible but that's a next gen WWE game for sure.

And that's also IF 2K retains the signature creation suite of WWE games AND THEN decides to expand on it, when they eventually take development in-house..

31 wrestlers in there, I picked 31 because it was the same amount of Attitude Era guys that shipped last year (including Mike Tyson who was day 1 DLC, figure they could do the same with Shawn Michaels or something this year since he'll really only be needed as a ref for the story). This also isn't too terribly different from last year's roster because it doesn't need to be.

That roster would allow them to easily do a mode running from Survivor Series 1999 to WrestleMania X7. The only main event they couldn't do is Rock/Benoit obviously - but Fully Loaded 2000 could be represented by Jericho/HHH. The majority of the important matches can be done. Including Shane taking sick bumps (vs. Big Show and vs. Steve Blackman). Also Dean/Scotty from Backlash 2000 as a bonus match, because that match ruled.

The Hardyz would fit really nicely if they can be allowed into the game, but I wouldn't bet on it. Also Chyna would be a surprisingly good fit for the Jericho and Eddie storyline but I don't think they'd allow it since it'd mean a man has to strike a woman, which has been banned from WWE games for a few years now.</font>

The characters aren't that hard to create and they could easily fit everybody on the roster in since each character has 4 slots (Kai En Tai would be different slots within the same character, etc.), the arenas are fairly basic. They'd just need to add a few new moves for finisher purposes and they'd be good to go.

Changing the story mode wouldn't be hard either since no voiceover is used. They can leave it with the current format where you pick a belt to go for and just play the story from there.</font>

It's still fun to play and works well. CPU vs CPU is awful, though. They never do anything. I tried to ref a CPU match and gave up in the end.

That was a rushed model, though, like Jericho in the first Smackdown. It's easier to throw a model together than set-up a licensing deal, I imagine. And this is when games were still this geeky thing and nobody but Tony Hawk Pro Skater and several racing games could land commercial music.

Things are different now, but I still have my doubts the Kid Rock theme will be used here. Of course, as Ace said the WWE mix should be online for people to use as custom soundtracks anyway. I was just musing.

Universe as a concept has so much potential but THQ just can't get it right. And I don't have much faith it'll be considerably better in WWE 14 either. It might officially be labeled a 2k game but for all intents and purposes this is still a THQ game this year. Maybe next year we'll get an overhaul, but I'm still skeptical as it sounds like the same people are going to remain in charge.

Last year was going to be my first year in a while not getting the game but I caved a week in. This year I need to have more will power and at least wait for a price drop. Feel like I've thrown $60 down the drain way too much in the past few years.</font>

Based on past TNA contract stories I don't think it'd be difficult to sign Angle up, they got Hogan while he was under contract there I think, and Dixie doesn't seem like she cares that much about that kinda thing.

Unrealistic? It's a fucking video game. I think if the current main roster was more solid I'd agree. It's kinda weak right now except for the top, so bring me some legends.

Current guys that get left off probably aren't very good/wouldn't want to play as them anyways. You could download them from community creations and they do a pretty good job usually on them.

Wrestlemania tends to be the cutoff now and it's not as if there have been a lot of debuts since last year so I don't see why The Shield wouldn't be on the disc. Someone like Fandango could be DLC but even he was doing a lot of dark matches and tv spots beforehand so he could be in. One guy that comes too mind that will be very likely DLC is Curtis Axel sure he's not actually new but he didn't even make the cut last year and I have the feeling his repackaging wasn't planned way in advance.

One of the main features of the WWE 2K 14 video game will be the 30 years of WrestleMania mode. The idea had been talked about for a long time and the actual deal to do it was made in 2012 when THQ still had the license. The big question was that to do a WrestleMania concept game, the key guy really is Hulk Hogan. Even though he’s with TNA and is kind of the face (well, the weathered face) of the brand, WWE didn’t have any issue with using him. The big aspect of making the deal with Hogan, which was a 2K Sports deal and not a WWE deal, is that Hogan didn’t have an exclusive for pro wrestling merchandising deal with TNA, which is amazing when you think about it. More than 45 matches are featured in the game, with the company making the decision to build it around three matches, the 1987 Hogan vs. Andre match, the 2002 Hogan vs. Rock match and the 2012 Rock vs. Cena match.


2k revealed there were two winners for the alternative cover contest and to no surprise, Bryan is on both.

Three matches have already been confirmed (**) and I'll put a * next to anything that would appear to be a lock. Locks would be determined because they're the only match that could conceivably be in from a given Mania (given the roster), the only match able to utilize a guy in the mode, or pretty much confirmed based on the attires that were shown.

In all honesty it's not terribly difficult to come up with that list. The only questionable ones are the ones in more recent Manias, where a lot of the people have fought against one another so you can really mix and match it in several ways. They didn't announce American Bad Ass Taker for the mode, only current Undertaker (which probably has hair as an alt) and Retro Taker with his old school attire. Because of this, I had to leave off HHH/Taker from WM 17 and Flair/Taker from WM 18. American Bad Ass might strictly be DLC only.

Some duplicate matches in there, but it would seem to be inevitable.</font>
