So, the Sranger helps if you just downloaded the game, or if you have a new and relatively small vault. Otherwise, it's like a frustratingly timed game of Where's Waldo (or Wally for my non-US peeps).

You got 5 seconds from the piano plunks to find him and tap on him for a pretty minimal cap gain (again, unless you're near the start of a game... then ANY caps are welcome). Then he vanishes with a jazzy riff. He sort-of appears in the background of rooms, so he can be extremely hard to spot if the room's upgraded and there's shit to hide behind (like med room windows or places that add scenery to the foreground or even actual busy dwellers). He can even stand in elevator shafts, which is how I first noticed him.

So, in a nutshell: if your vault is too big to find him, you really don't need his help. If you can scan your entire vault in a couple seconds, you likely could use the added caps.

Also, in addition to looting raider encounters (first corpse drops a weapon or armor, the rest all turn into a cap bonus), it appears they now only endanger your caps and food, instead of everything. Guess they saved that for deathclaws.

For those that care about stuff like this, console versions of the game will run at 30 FPS while the PC version won't have the full game available on disc for the physical version. PC version isn't as hilariously bad as MGS V was but still requires a Steam download to install the rest of the game.

So far, I only have one real complaint about Wasteland... the font. Even setting it to max size, it isn't optimized for sitting about 15 feet or so across the living room. It is almost like the first Dead Rising issue on being played on non-HDTVs. Most of the major character dialogue is spoken as well as written, but there are a good portion of NPCs that only operate via text. Also, commands and prompts and everything else. Not so bad if you're playing on a PC or in PC like environment (sitting fairly close to your TV), but a tad taxing from clear across the room.

Which version of Windows are you running? Hopefully 64 bit. Quite certain 32bit cannot utilize anything > 8GB.

Swap out all the pieces of RAM and power the machine on to see if the RAM is bad. If you hook 2 pieces at a time in the same two slots and it works, swap with the other two slots and see if you have trouble.

If you don't have any issues on the first two slots, but you do on the 2nd two, it is most likely your moBo.

Nah, you can have individual corrupt chips so the computer will see all your RAM, but BSOD now and again. SOURCE: Happened to me :(

Trophy list for the PS4 version was recently released. Biggest change compared to past Fallout games is none are related to the karma system.

Interestingly enough, there are no Trophies this time for maintaining certain karma levels. That means you can play however you want and not worry about replaying just to clean those up. Although, it is always fun to see how interactions change when you take a different approach.

Xbox One version likely having similar type achievements and/or none tied to karma levels.

It's been really easy to stay away from previews and all. Checked out the Bethesda content they've released, but feel uncomfortable watching a famous "gamer" try and sell me on the game. They seem robotic and not as passionate enough to grasp my attention.

Gamestop decided to celebrate getting a new shipment of the Pip-Boy collector's edition by jacking up its price by around $70.

We're not sure if we should be excited or face palming, but GameStop now has Fallout 4's Pip-Boy Edition back in stock. Earlier today the gaming retailer slotted the Xbox One, PS4, and PC Pip-Boy Edition back up for sale, but instead of the original $119.99 price tag, it's now $189.99! Yay!

Main reason for the spike is due to them adding in the Season Pass ($30) for the game in the bundle. Also a strategy guide ($40) as well but at almost double its current price ($23) at other retailers.

UPT count. For some reason, that shit still affects corporate suits in retail. Buying more than one item is SUPER IMPORTANT even if the customer is spending a ton of money to begin with. You'd think it was because there is technically more of a profit on the strat guide, but that's just a bonus. The game, the pass, and the book is a 3 item transaction, even if the standalone game were the exact same price.

Look, don't get me wrong, dude, to an extent that's a fair argument you make, but in a half-hour in real time, in FO universe time you could pass days, weeks or even months (that's stretching it, but I'm sure it's possible), and if you're spending the majority of your in-game days using the same weapons over and over in combat it does stand to reason they'll deteriorate. That's not to say with the non-unique weapons you can't open your inventory and combine a bunch of them to restore your weapons. Hell, if you're lucky enough to have a bunch of weapon repair kits, they restore your weapons to 100%.

Weapon degredation seems kinda like unneccessary busywork. At least, in normal running gameplay. In a Hardcore Mode scenario, sure. In a game like Elder Scrolls, where you have no other stake in any weapons besides one being "better" than another? Okay. Even armor, I'm down with, because getting shot, or stabbed, or stung, or blown up tends to play a little havoc on your attire, and stitching up clothes that are presumably a few decades old seems fair.

But, with guns in Fallout, it kinda hits the threshold of unnecessary, especially when having to "repair" a shotgun with parts from another shotgun after shooting it just 12 times. Maybe just limiting ammo seems like a good tradeoff. Make finding ammo a bit harder. It's seriously easier to find ammo than money most of the time. If they make finding bullets less world-breaking to begin with, (or, at least, add weight) weapon degradation wouldn't be neccessary.

Can you comment a little on the romance/LGBT depictions in the game? I have some concerns over what initially seems like a character creation that forces you to create a heterosexual character, and then permits you to romance companions of either gender later.

This just seems really problematic and kind of tacked on, suggesting that player characters can only really be bisexual or straight and not gay or lesbian.

The depictions of gender (and a complete lack of sexual diversity) in Fallout Shetler doesn’t bode well.

Anyway, perhaps you could be so kind as to answer these questions:

1. Is it an accurate understanding that the game only allows for the creation of your character as half of a heterosexual couple during character creation?
2. Is it accurate to say that all companion relationships are gender neutral, but even if a player only pursues same gender companions the dissonance with the opening is never addressed?
3. Are there other companion/NPCs/quests that depict LGBT people? E.g. quest giver referencing their same sex partner?

I’m sure some will angrily dismiss my questions as SJW nonsense, but as a queer player with limited time I prefer to spend the time sink of a game like this in a virtual universe that I feel is inclusive.

... I mean I kinda see where they're coming from, but honestly they should be happy that Bethesda is even including same sex romance at all. For that matter anyone who likes romance in a game (me...) should be happy that Bethesda included any form of romance at all in the game given that the majority don't give a crap and it's basically just for the few hardcore roleplayers out there (if they even have. Haven't heard anything about them including stuff like this honestly.)

I'm hoping those FPS issues are fixed in the day 1 patch; otherwise I fear the GRAPICZ YO! GANGSTAZ will be bitching to the maximum on this one.

To be clear I am a big graphics whore myself. I like eye candy. I really do. But it doesn't detract from what makes a game good or not. Would FO4 be a better game if it had better graphics? Nope, it would just be prettier. That's why I can still go back and play FF7 for example. It's ugly as sin now but it is still gaming greatness. The opposite can also be true: The Order 1886 is one of the most beautiful games I've ever played....but that shiny coat of paint didn't make it a good game.

The graphics are a bonus, basically. And if you have to sacrifice some of that bonus to get a much better gaming experience then so be it.

For those on PC, just keep god rays on low or off. There is really no difference at all between low and ultra, aside from a massive FPS drop going to ultra. Force tesselation via the graphics driver as opposed to the game, and it should be all good. Game looks decent at 4k with minimal bugs, but could benefit from a nice texture mod.

So I've been playing a bit now. Definitely need to up my vid card or something, but I'm on lowest settings and at least the game is fluid.

Super early-ish quest spoilerage below.

When you first get to Concord and you find the settler bros, that first fight against the Deathclaw was super tough. Maybe I was doing it wrong. Eventually beat him but feel like that should've definitely not been so hard for being so soon in the game lol

It was a hard fight.

I ended up finding a building with two stories, firing a shot to get it to come out and unleashing hell with the minigun. It seemed like the AI picked up on what I was doing once it realized it couldn't get to me. It took off and when I tried firing a shot to lure it back out, it didn't fall for it. Ended up having to come out of the building and play "cat and mouse" until it was dead.

I was a bit unsure when I started the game, but I did about 3 hours and was excited to keep going by the end. I played 3 and NV to death, but this game feels new enough to be mysterious again. Then I got overexcited when it started raining, that's how low my standards were. Love it.

The only bit that seemed awkward is figuring out how armour/crafting works, and doing the quest to build your first base. I had to leave and go elsewhere to find more plantable food to complete that. Then I guess you have to assign a person to each planted food to farm it, which could be explained more clearly.

This is a great idea and I'm so doing it once I finish my fortress. Gonna try and just focus on one settlement at a time. Gonna havta add beacons, beds and stuff to the others to improve the main one.

Definitely recommend going through the help section on the pause menu. Explains a lot more than the in game hints.

Yeah later on, once I start spider webbing them togrther it's going to be impossible to keep track of which settler is going between which settlements. It only tells you how many lines you have. So, UPS showed up today a bit before noon with my game. I just stopped playing because sensory overload and on top of not being to bed yet since I got off work this morning (my fallout binge now puts me at 28+ hours).

And I haven't done jack shit in the way of gameplay. I'm just now about to go fight raiders in the Corvega plant, and I stopped there because I nodded off in a firefight. I spent all day tinkering with how I look, tinkering with how my wife looked, tinkering with the town, tinkering with the power armor, tinkering with the town some more, and tinkering with my arsenal for a diverse set of guns from game start bullcrap weaponry.

I'm a bit disappointed my phone won't work with the Pip-Boy. It is actually "too old" for the software, and my tablet is too big for the cosmetics. Oh well, looks nice on the stand!

Though odd, and mostly impractical, you can use "both" Pip-Boys at the same time in real time. I was fiddling around with the various equippable armor bits in game and decided to change the music since that menu was still open on my tablet. Again, mostly impractical (except as a non-PC player, that music hotkey comes in handy when I need to suddenly sneak), but cool all the same.

I also dig the improved shortcuts. Granted, I still have to get used to actually selecting the weapon/item with an additional button press (it doesn't just snap to on select), but it is better than the clumsy diagonal d-pad hotkeys, or the "down is always stimpak" shortcut in NV.

Seems like when Bethesda said the Fallout Shelter app wasn't for the purpose of making money, they weren't blowing as much smoke as it sounded... it seems like a tutorial of sorts for the fortress making portion of 4.

Super mutant. In the most literal terms. You gan get down to 1 hp and not die, even fighting barehanded vs a deathclaw. You can also get down to 1 ap and still hit criticals in VATS.

Likely getting patched soon but for those that want a quick exploit on bottlecaps, recent bug was discovered that allows it to be possible.

The IGN Wiki has uncovered a pretty big bug that can net you a near infinite amount of bottlecaps, at the mercy of the vendor's stock. Basically, you're going to want to buy all of one type of ammo from a vendor, sell it back, and don't finalize it just yet. Then you'll have an "infinite" ammo bit that you can sell to rake in all of that vendor's cash.
