I wasn't that into the main event in the first place. They pussed out and went half way with everything. The wrapped the ropes instead of removing and replacing with barbed wire. They used fake barbed wire on the boards on the outside and maybe on the ropes as well. The boards in the ring seemed legit though. The explosions themselves were quite shit the whole way through anyway which is honestly why they shouldn't have done them in the first place. This is the first time AEW has dreadfully failed and they did so in such a big and embarrassing way. This definitely reminds me of the WCW Chamber of Horrors Match where Abdullah and Cactus had a dumb shit ending and honestly that was even better than this. This made everyone look bad especially Eddie Kingston and the commentary team who had to attempt to sell it, even though JR couldn't even muster the strength to which for once I totally understand.

I've been skipping Dynamite and skimming episodes on demand since Omega took the belt. It's certainly not to the level of trash WWE is at, which I don't even read the results of anymore. But this PPV was easily the worst that I've seen from them. Sure the tag title match was good, the street fight was cool and the battle royal was a big surprise but compared to the rest of the best we've seen from AEW this was a pretty low standard on all accounts. Take it from someone on the fence. This show did no favors.

Also while I don't watch Japanese Deathmatches any longer and have zero interest in them. I did have a phase when I was like 13 or so where I traded tapes and got ahold of all the classics from Big Japan, IWA and FMW. With the Onita praise AEW did I had pretty high and brutal expectations for this main event tonight. And the thing is with these death matches, they look brutal, but it's all superficial. They didn't even go that far with this one, they had gimmicked barbed wire through half the spots. When Mox got up from the DDT off the apron I was thoroughly slighted that he didn't have blood pouring from his back. Call me a savage but if they say Exploding Barbed Wire Death Match, I want a fucking serious ass death match. Hell TNA got the barbed wire massacare right every time.

I've been skipping Dynamite and skimming episodes on demand since Omega took the belt. It's certainly not to the level of trash WWE is at, which I don't even read the results of anymore. But this PPV was easily the worst that I've seen from them. Sure the tag title match was good, the street fight was cool and the battle royal was a big surprise but compared to the rest of the best we've seen from AEW this was a pretty low standard on all accounts. Take it from someone on the fence. This show did no favors.

To each their own, I actually enjoyed the hell out of most of this show. Ending aside I actually felt like the ladder match was my low point, the energy was just really off during that one, though I'm glad Sky won.

They've already announced stuff for Dynamite that intrigues me. Sky/Darby should be good, I hope to see Jericho get chucked out of the Inner Circle, and the eventual Bucks/Death Triangle match is gonna be a can't-miss.

That said, despite really liking the show I do think it was a step down from other AEW PPVs because the bar was set so high. Knowing that Double or Nothing will be in Daily's Place probably with restricted crowd still (for the best, but still) kinda sucks. I miss pre-pandemic wrestling and hope that by All In everyone's back on the road and every promotion has a lively crowd of people who have been waiting a year to go to shows.

I missed the tag title match and street fight match unfortunately. However, barring the botched ending, overall I thought the show was really good.

The tag battle royal was fun and Death Triangle v The Bucks will be a really fun match.

I'm glad Scorpio Sky is going to be getting a another title shot. I think he's got a ton of upside and he needs to be featured more.

Shida had her best match. We are going to get some direction on the Inner Circle. And when tho he didn't deserve anywhere near that kind of hype, I'm interested in what they're gonna do with Christian. Plus, maybe Eddie gets a babyface push for a title match in the next month.

Even with the botched ending and over hyping of Christian, I'm still into the company and want to see what's next.

The place was the ECW Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The event was Holiday Hell ’93

The participants were The Public Enemy (Rocco Rock and Johnny Grunge) against Badd Company (Pat Tanaka and Paul Diamond) The match was something called a “Body Count” match. The concept of the Body Count match was one member from each team wrestles, in this case it was Rocco Rock and Pat Tanaka, while the remaining members of each tag team – Johnny Grunge and Paul Diamond – were locked in cages. The cages were rigged with explosives and the loser of the match had their respective cage blown up.

So, to describe exactly what happened in it, I turn it over to someone who was directly involved in the match: Paul Diamond of Badd Company. He was the wrestler who had the unfortunate task of being locked in the explosive cage.

“Well Paul did not get approval to use special effects fireworks, so instead when the match ended, I was the one to be blown up. There was no cage but just one side of it. So when it was time for the explosion, Paul just had some kind of paper lit up to create a bunch of smoke and the most ridiculous thing he used a recording a sound of an explosion.”

As you could imagine, the ridiculousness of that sight of smoke and a sound effect of an explosion riled up the rabid 800 fans in attendance. The crowd immediately crapped on the finish and started chanting in unison…”Money back! Money back!” Diamond added, “I had to pretend to be blown up from a sound recording! It was horrible and most embarrassing situation I was ever involved in.”

The Body Count match result was so bad and so embarrassing, there were some rumblings that Heyman was fearful that his job as ECW booker would be removed by owner Tod Gordon. Ultimately, cooler heads prevailed and the match, which was heavily advertised on TV, never aired. When recalling the match, Joey Styles, who called the action, could only laugh and say: “It went over like a fart in church.”

The Body Count match was never used again, nor was it even allowed to ever be mentioned on ECW television. From all accounts, the match is probably buried somewhere in WWE’s vast video vaults. You may even consider this match the “Holy Grail” of ECW matches.

Tony Khan has spoken out on the ending of tonight’s AEW Revolution pay-per-view event.

During a Revolution post-show media scrum, Khan explained that the reason the show-ending explosion was weak was because in storyline, Kenny Omega failed to deliver on his promise of an exploding ring.

“I think we’re all lucky that the bomb going off at the end didn’t really hurt anybody...Kenny’s big master plan -- he built a dud,” Khan said. “Who would have thought when he drew the big plan with crayons that maybe the bomb might not fail to take both guys out.”

“But at the end, I don’t know what people really wanted unless you wanted us to actually explode the guys at the end, there’s only so much you can do,” Khan later added. “So without actually blowing the ring and blowing both guys up, I think the basic explanation is Kenny’s ring was set to explode and his plan as a heel who built this thing with a hammer and nails as we saw, the final bomb just didn’t go off.”

I think the worst part about the whole debacle is that it the match was actually pretty good, way better than I was expecting. And then this just sort of shit all over everything. The build, the anticipation, the announcers hyping the explosion, everyone.

Yeah it would've been great had the explosion worked out. I understand why Tony is putting the spin that Kenny made a dud explosion, but it doesn't fix the botch. As has been said if it was the intention that the Kenny made a dud then the announcers would've sold it that way and Kingston wouldn't have died. As the cameras went off air Mix cut a promo immediately saying "Kenny can't make an Exploding Ring for shit" as Eddie continued to commit to the death sell via sparklers and a few black cats. Not saying that Tony should have said "yeah unfortunately the explosion didn't work out and it was a real let down for us", breaking kayfabe like that would be just as cringey for my taste. No winning in this situation.
