View Full Version : Fantasy Football 2004-5
Looking through Yahoo today and ESPN and the fantasy football season looks like it's just about to start again.
Are people up for a league this year?
A couple of ideas I had were that as well as doing a head to head league like we normally do, we could also do a rotis league. To explain, unlike in head to head, in a rotis league points are scored over the season and decided on season totals. So in a 10 team league the person with the most rushing yards gets 10 points and the person with the least gets 1 point, and so on for all the scoring cats. The leagues could be run in parallel. People could do one or the other, or both.
I've been commish for the last couple of years and I'm happy to do it again, but if other people want to be commish instead then that is cool.
Really this topic is to set the ball rolling for ideas about the leagues and to see if there are enough people who want to be involved.

Also, I'll set up another Pick'em league this year :y:
Nicely timed.
Stima when did you last check your baseball teams?
I've set up a Points league and a head to head league.
I've set the head to head league to be 16 people but the points league to 20.
The details for the points league are:
league number 7928
Password: people
For the head to head:
league number: 7976
Password: tpww

07-07-2004, 01:47 PM
Okay I'm going to sign up right now. I didn't look at the settings or anything yet, but I have a few suggestions.
For the points, last year's wasn't too bad, but there were a few things that screwed it up a bit. IMO QBs shouldn't get points for completions, that makes their totals too high. And while I don't dislike the way we did this last year, I think it would probably be better to have players select a team defense, rather than individual players. I only say this because I know we have a lot of newer players, and most people generally don't know who the best cornerbacks and linebackers etc are in the league. So I guess it evens the playing field out a bit. I wouldn't really be angry if it stayed like it was last year though, so no biggy.
I think other than that, the points should be fine. Maybe make it more like the default Yahoo one (6 pts for a TD, 25 yards / pt for receiving, 10 yards / pt for rushing, 50 yards / pt for throwing), but that is just being nitpicky. Whatever you wanna do, that's fine. These are just suggestions.

The points league is pretty simple to follow. Instead of your points being weekly they are based on season totals. So in head to head you might lose 28-31 and be pegged with a loss whilst someone else might win 10-7. In the points league your placing is decided by how many points you get rather than how many games you win.
I'll use the same scoring for both leagues and the same cats. You can only have 15 scoring cats and a maximum roster size of 25.
Point taken about the completions. last year we awarded .25 per completion.
Trades and whatnot, I reckon that we are all adults and if you make a stupid trade then its your own fault.

Deacon Batistas is Ant. I think he's using the same name in both leagues, but I'm not totally sure.

James is good but a tad overrated. Taylor and Johnson will prove themselves this year though. The fantasy points will be coming fast and furious for me!
Also, I've got Pennington and Leftwich as my QBs. I haven't taken a good look at the other QB tandems in the league but I was suprised to have gotten the chance to get both of them.

yes Mcnabb was first, and did you see my WR's? I didn't take running backs till about the 7th round, I took awesome recievers since they usually do better then RB's :p. Not to Mention all my QB's this year have good wide outs to throw to so they'll be getting good numbers.

RBs will get you more points especially in a league like this where TDs aren't everything. Only problem being RBs get injured more than WRs so taking them with a high pick is a bit more risky.
I had to basically give a LITTLE @ the WR position to help out my QB and RB positions. All 4 top WRs on their team though. Pretty solid.

Recievers and RB's have the same point system though :wtf: 10 yards per point, 6 for a touchdown. so it really makes no difference.

08-09-2004, 04:39 AM
RBs tend to get more yards though. Also, recievers don't run the ball often but RBs can rack up alot of yards both rushing and recieving. Usually RBs score more TDs as well.

I wanted Stallworth more than Rogers
There's a lot of risks with the trade... Stallworth has a history with that hamstring of his, and Rogers himself wasn't Mr. Durable last season. Even if he does play 16 games, there's no guarantee he'll put up more than 600-700 yards and 6 TDs or something. Sure he's good, but Detroit's offense as a whole isn't.
And to be honest, I had 3 TEs, so I could risk letting one go (even as high of a calibre player as Winslow), and I needed the WRs more than the D anyways, so I'm not too upset with the trade. Of course, Springs didn't hurt matters any. :shifty:

Well the pick 'em/survival are easy enough, just check them once a week type thing.
And with my fantasy teams, already I'm pretty happy with both the teams I have now, so I won't have to put toooo much work into them. My one public league I'm pretty confident I can win it all without making any roster changes, so yeah. Not as much maintenance required as in past years

Dave's league is now up to seven teams so that means at minimum, he needs another team to make it even and five would make it sweet so either get working on joining or I'm going to have two teams and trade between them :shifty:

lol. This is gonna be the greatest season ever with all these yahoo games adding rooting interest to the bad games.
So someone explain to me the Salary Cap thing. Is it as simple as just putting whoever you want on your team all year long as long as you don't pass $100 mil? Or does it work like a stock market type deal where the player's cost will rise or fall depending on how well they do weekly, and then you buy and sell?

I liked my draft in the points league. Pretty strong overall, no real weaknesses. How about everyone else?

Why would somebody drop Corey Dillon :|
ALSO Why would you take Springs just to drop him later on

Just completed this trade in one of my other fantasy leagues...
GIVING: Jamal Lewis and Quincy Morgan
RECIEVING: Thomas Jones and Andre Johnson
Beautiful
Also, who is La Raza in our league? I've proposed a trade to them.

LOL what, that is awful
Chicago's still gonna suck, so their running game won't happen because they'll always be playing catch-up, therefore Thomas Jones is meh. Andre Johnson is good, granted, but LOL @ giving up Lewis for him

Thomas Jones will be an animal this year and Chicago will be improved.
Also, Brian Billick said Jamal Lewis will not be playing after week 8 (When his trial starts). Therefore, I'm giving him up now while people are still willing to give alot for him.

I dunno, I wouldn't put a whole lot of faith into Jones. I'm not saying he's gonna be bad at all, but I don't think he's gonna be a top 15 back or anything like that is all.
Even if he doesn't play after week 8, 8 weeks is a large chunk of the fantasy season, and you bet he's gonna put up huge numbers while he's there. I guess it's just personal preference, but I would've stuck with Jamal.

Lewis could come back after week 8 though, depending how long it takes. He just said he wouldn't play during the trail. I am not sure how long this type of trial would take tho

In the league I play with my friends from school some kid tried trading me Jamal Lewis cause I have shit for RB's. He wanted Tom Brady or something, but I'm running game with Favre and Brady because we start two QB's. They are my money in that league and I'll be dammed if I trade for a guy who I know is already going to miss some games.

I do have a feeling about Jones that he could be a top 10 back. Maybe even 1,400 yds or so. He looked great late last year w/ Tampa.
Granted it's still a bit of a risk to trade him for Jamal but getting Andre Johnson with him and only having to give up Quincy Morgan (Who I would have dropped anyway) makes it alot easier.

I can't imagine a trial like this taking less than 9 weeks.
