lol the second ESPN goes live to the game Soriano gets a hit.
Probably going to the game tomorrow and the day after. After this weekend, events I will have witnessed:
Edgar Martinez' final game
Ichiro's record breaking 258th hit
Ken Griffey Jr.'s 350th home run
Rafael Palmeiro's 3000th hit
Damn
I saw the Patriots win the Superbowl thats about it. Oh yeah I saw the Red Sox play the Cubs for the 2nd time ever in Wrigley :shifty:

are you kidding me? boston beating chicago EASY? wow. best record in baseball since april 30th and still no respect.
I don't think the White Sox will be a threat in the playoffs, simply put.
There were some statistics in a recent Sports Illustrated that showed last years stat leaders at the half and their final stats, and it works against many of the White Sox. Garland, Podsednik, Iguchi, Hermanson. Then you have Konerko, who usually slows down in the second half, Frank Thomas who has like a 2:1 HR:Hit ratio, which is obviously not going to continue. Then you have Garcia, who is bound to let his head get the best of him soon.
I don't doubt that the White Sox will make the playoffs. They will really have to fuck up to let the Twins catch them. Once the playoffs come though, they will be worn down from inexperience and their timely hitting, which is pretty much the reason they are where they are, will likely be off. Like the Nationals, once they start to lose the momentum and lose the one run games, it will be a downhill road.
Finally, look at how they played against the Oakland A's in the past two series'. I think they went 1-5, and the A's are nowhere near as good as a team like the Red Sox will be come playoff time. The Red Sox have a veteran lineup with proven great players, and as of right now they are still the favorites to win the AL pennant in my opinion. Anything can of course happen, but I don't like the White Sox chances and I do like the Red Sox's.

Dragon
07-16-2005, 01:11 PM
I dunno, Leiter seems like a better option than Redding and Darrell May. I doubt its going to be a long term thing.
Even when the starters we have on the DL come back we aren't going to know what we are going to have. Pavano has been bad all year, Brown was decent for a stretch but still really inconsistent, Wang would be nice to have back because he's been consistent. But I've heard talk of him being out all year. And ever since I heard of the Jaret Wright signing, I knew it was bad news. Really was an awful idea to get him.

Regular season records can be very decieving. There was something like the White Sox have only lost 5 division games this year, but they play like four or five series' with the Twins still.
The point of the unbalanced schedule is so that to win your division you must beat your division opponents. as of this morning, the white sox are 28-5 within the al central. how is that decieving? don't give me that bullshit that the sox have only beat up on lowly teams like detriot & cleveland. the al central, until recently, had 4 out of 5 teams OVER .500.
lay off finding excuses on why the sox are doomed to fail. best record in baseball, best division record, best away record, 11 game lead over a very good team in the twins.
as for the sox not being a playoff threat (in which you posted a long ass pointless post about stats from last year making a difference this year)... i'll just let mr. derek jeter sum it up.
"Come playoff time, there are teams that you hope to play and some teams that you really hope to avoid. I really think that the team you hope to avoid this year is the white sox, they are playing amazing baseball right now and in a short series I'm not sure if anyone can beat them." ~Derek Jeter on the Dan Patrick Show (ESPN 1000)

Oakland is a whole other story. I like the A's and respect the way they get things done (the last Zito and Harden starts?????? AMAZING!!!)
But for some fucking reason... we can't beat them. We were handed our only sweep of the year from that team and we are 3-22 in Oakland since 2001 (and only 6 wins overall in that same period).

The reason for the drop was because everyone was obsessed with New York-9/11 the year before (and god was i happy the yankees lost that one). That and shitheads on the east coast (FOX has a HUGE bias) can't be bothered with a west coast series (even though it was 10x better than yankees/d-backs)

Sosa had a two run jack in like the seventh, the only flaw in a great night by Silva, but the Twins came back and it was sweet. First I think it was Stewart got a leadoff double, then L-Rod drove him home. Then the next inning Hunter got a double and got home on a Bret Boone bunt. It was sweet as shite, that is until Miguel Tejada went yard in the 11th.

I am seriously having my doubts about the yanks finding a decent 4th starting pitcher and the issue of center fielding It just seems Brown is beyond terrible and you pray he doesn't blow his lead each time. The Texas Rangers (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/tex/) pitcher jawed at a cameraman for Dallas-Fort Worth television station WFAA as he was booked into the county jail Monday on misdemeanor assault charges stemming from an earlier tirade against two cameramen. Just as with the incident that led to the charges, the exchange was caught on tape.
Rogers, a three-time All-Star who is appealing a 20-game suspension and $50,000 fine imposed by baseball commissioner Bud Selig, was released after posting $1,500 bond.
In the latest run-in, WFAA reported on its Web site Monday that photographer Mike Zukerman was videotaping the procedure when Rogers turned to him and said, ``You're getting really close; you know that? Do you hear me?'' A few seconds later, Rogers again turned to the camera, saying, ``You must be pretty proud of yourself, too.'' After Zukerman replied, ``It's just my job, Kenny,'' Rogers responded: ``Yeah. Your job. That's just your excuse.''

Apparently there is a trade in the works:
Red Sox get:
JC Romero
Twins get:
Kevin Millar
I dunno, I love JC, he was the man and a huge part of us in 2002, but he has been pretty inconsistant in the last couple years, like you never know if he is going to just absolutely blow. We have been built around having a great bullpen forever now, but we do need another bat and maybe Millar can do it. I don't mind when guys go from the Twins to Sox either, like JC would fit it well and still be the man over there. We'll see, it sounds like its pretty much a go though in our paper here.

Who would play 1B for Red Sox? Olerud?
The Miz
07-19-2005, 04:10 PM
I don't like that trade for the Twins. Morneau is a better 1B than Millar so Morneau would probably remain at 1B, so essentially they're getting a DH because Millar sucks even worse in the outfield and the Twins outfield is solid. Millar has little power and doesn't hit for a great average, not really what they want in a DH. They can probably get just as much production from Lew Ford as they would from Millar. I agree they need another bat but I don't think Millar is the answer. With pitching as deep as there's they could probably get something better. If it went through I'm guessing their lineup would be something like this
1. Stewart LF
2. Boone 2B
3. Mauer C
4. Morneau 1B
5. Hunter CF
6. Millar DH
7. Jones RF
8. Cuddyer/Punto/Rodriguez 3B
9. Castro SS
Unless I'm missing something :?:
I don't see the trade as a total loss. Red Sox need more strength in the bullpen seeing as it's the 2nd worst in the AL. Ortiz can play 1st, and Mirabelli can take over as DH.

Not bad. Kata is pretty good. He was one of the origingal "babybacks" and did well in AAA this year. He wasn't getting enough time though behind Counsell/Clayton/Glaus/Cintron. And we need ANYTHING consistant in the bullpen. Maybe a veteran will stir things up. We'll see.

They were playing the Nationals, and had runners on first and second with 2 outs in the bottom of the 10th, and Washington brings in a new pitcher and he pegs Giles to load the bases then walks in the winning run on 4 straight pitches to Andruw Jones.

David Wright is the man
NEW YORK -- Rafael Palmeiro said he didn't knowingly ingest steroids.
The Mets are trying not to make the same mistake.
"It's scary to realize that you can buy things at GNC or at a Vitamin Shoppe that could show up positive in a drug test," Mets third baseman David Wright said. "But on the other hand, we're professional athletes and we have to be responsible for what we put in our body and we need to check with our team doctors, our trainers to make sure what we do put in our bodies are legal and are allowed."
"I think it's still surprising," Wright said of the suspensions this season. "Maybe I'm naďve that nobody would want to cheat, to put things in their bodies that would give them an advantage over everybody else.
"But then again, I'm kind of 'old school' where I think that you get to where you want to be through hard work rather than having to take any kind of illegal supplements."
Wright, ever the optimist, repeatedly moved for the issue to be resolved, simply so everyone could remember what a great game baseball still is.
"I think the first thing to get back on the right track is catching these people who are using steroids and punishing them," Wright said. "Hopefully, it won't happen again. Hopefully, a year from now we're talking about pennant races and Wild Card races [instead of] steroid use and drug use in baseball."

Yes folks. Its time we shed a little bit of attention on , what i think is, The best organization in baseball.
I'm not a A's fan. ( Atleast i wasnt .. )
The Oakland A's were 12 1/2 games back of the Angels in May. They've since went on a tear winning 33-40 games. Unbelievable. They do this shit every year. Start out slow, then blitz there way to the top and make the playoffs. The messed up thing about it is, every year they lose all-star players. Giambi, Tejada, Mark Mulder, Tim Hudson, Keith Folke. Yet Billy Bean still gets this team re-stocked for the playoff run.
I'm a Cubs fan. Since my team seems to be falling hard of late. I'm jumping on the bandwagon now. GO A's
The Miz

They will mostly likely win the West, if they do they will lose to the Red Sox in the first round. If they win the wild card however they will play Chicago and probably sweep them. Amazing that they're doing this in a rebuilding year. 2006-8 are really their years
They havent traded or signed anyone. They have the same roster they had opening day. Zito has been average at best. Mark Kotsay is like there star player.

What? They've picked up:
Jay Payton (HUGE upgrade over Spaz Byrnes, good power, clutch hitter)
Joe Kennedy (lefty long-man, gives them depth in the rotation if someone gets injured)
Jay Witasick (excellent setup man, along with Calero and Duchscherer they now have best RH setup in the league)
They've gotten rid of:
Spaz Byrnes (fast and good pop but stupidest player in MLB and defensive liability)
Chad Bradford (kills righties but they already have a Roogy and he si always on the DL)
Dan Johnson and Huston Street were not on the opening day roster; Johnson is leading the team in hitting and is 10000x better than Hatteberg and Street is the Rookie of the Year.
Zito is having his best year since 2002 (Cy Young). The stats are deceiving, he had one awful month but has been one of the top 5 starters in MLB the last 2 months.
Kotsay is good, yes, but the offense is anchored by Crosby Chavez and Kendall

Chacin has been very, very good, but he is a #3 starter on a team that will not make the playoffs. Street is one of the key contributors to the resurgence of a team that most likely make the playoffs. His ERA is well under 2 and he could finish with 20-25 saves. Oakland's pen is arguably the best in the AL and he is the leader of it. Sorry but there is no pressure starting in Toronto on a .500 team. Street is 21 and was brought in to replace Octavio Dotel as the Oakland A's closer and has been unbelievable. Chacin = very good Street = excellent

The only chance he has of losing it is if his teamate Nick Swisher takes away some of his votes. If by the end of the season his statline looks something like 21/26 sv, 1.85, 70+ ip it will be hard to argue.

<font color=goldenrod>Was at the Mets game today....pretty upsetting loss, don't know what the fuck Willie was doing putting 40-year old Roberto Hernandez in for a 4th straight game but oh well, they blew it
It was funny, in the 8th my dad and I moved down from the 1st base side upper deck to the 3rd base side mezzanine just in time to see Dae-Sung Koo give up a hit to a lefty, then Willie pulled him and the crowd in the section praised him for it.....only for them to announce Danny Graves as the new pitcher 30 seconds later and they started cursing him again
Mad crazy scoring though, 36 hits, 21 runs......got to see a Beltran dinger (about friggin time), a Piazza dinger/5 RBI game (memorable since it's probably his last year with the team), and a MAMMOTH Cameron shot that, had it not hit the top of the camera tower, would have gone an estimated 460 feet
Plus it was the longest 9-inning game in Shea history (4 hours, 9 minutes) so all in all it was still a great time

Even though I am a huge Red Sox fan I highly doubt Giambi is still on 'roids. Not only would he be laughed out of the sport if he got caught again, he also had some serious health issues from steroid side effects.
The Miz

I also doubt he is still on roids but to be 100% certain is ridiculous.
Oh well, even steroids can't help him stop sucking massive penis at first base

Man the Red Sox blew that one. 3-3 game in the 9th, Cuddyer gets a base hit and goes to second on Bill Mueller throwing error, then scores after Mike Timlin throws the ball away after a bunt :o

I wish I didn't hate the Twins, because last nights would have been a good game to watch
I still stand strong that the White Sox don't have what it takes to win in the playoffs though. Garland will get his shiite rocked, I guarantee it.

They can make it to the ALCS if they play the crappy Angels. Boston or Oakland? No chance
