Oakland needs to get out of the ALDS this year, that was rediculous the other year when they were up 2-0 on Boston and then lost. Then before that didn't they lose like three straight to the Yankees?

I was just thinking about how awesome the Yankee rotation would be if it were 1995 and not 2005

1. Randy Johnson: 18-2, 2.48
2. Mike Mussina: 19-9, 3.29
3. Hideo Nomo: 13-6, 2.54
4. Kevin Brown: 10-9, 3.60
5. Al Leiter: 11-11, 3.64

You know though, at least Giambi was open about his steroid usage, all the credit to him for that.

When the hell did he open up about it? The only two people to come out about Giambi's usage were the guy who leaked the grand jury story and jose canseco.

Giambi held that big press conference to apologize for "something he couldn't talk about"

You don't have to be picky about it, everybody knows what he meant.

Everybody else is flat out denying it, and from what I gather everybody believes the excuses. "Latin players can't read bottles" "I didn't know I took it" shit like that, if steroids are such a problem then why are all the people getting caught the ones doing them unintentionally? Giambi didn't make up some bullshit about taking the wrong supplement or anything, and Scot likes that in a man. I'll go along with him.

<font color=goldenrod>LOL, in just 6 games with Triple-A Pawtucket, Mark Bellhorn has a .115 AVG and 9 K's.....Sox would be retarded if they start him over Graffanino or Cora</font>

The Miz
08-08-2005, 04:47 PM
The key is 6 games. They can leave him in Pawtucket for about 20 more days before they have to cut him. If he's still hitting below Mendoza then than he's gone but I doubt that will happen. Bellhorn is obviously more talented than Graffanino and Cora but at this point they will make a better contrubtion. But Bellhorn is 30 now and if he isn't getting his usual OBP numbers no one will want him

Kenny Rogers suspension shortened to 13 games by an arbitrator. I skimmed through the article, but I agree with what Selig said.

Said Selig: "I strongly disagree with arbitrator Das' decision today. It sends the wrong message to every one of our constituents: the fans, the media, and our players."

I don't know what would warrant shortening the suspension, and to make matters worse I bet The Miz is pissed off now too.

Best team in the AL, dont care what anyone else says, cuz I am correct.

No. Their starters overachieved mightily the first few months and are now starting to pitch as good as they are. Colon is good yes, but very erratic and gets shelled more than most aces. Their offense is very, very overrated. Vlad is excellent but past that it's very shaky. You never what you will get from Anderson and Erstad; and Finley flat out sucks, period. He's done. They don't know who is going to DH. They don't know who is going to play CF. They have way too many question marks right now to be considered an AL favorite. The Red Sox, A's, and White Sox are all clearly better right now. They have a mental advantage over Oakland and Chicagi will probably choke in the playoffs but if they face Boston at all they are done, 4 games at most.

The Miz
08-10-2005, 02:43 AM
Also I could care less about Kenny Rogers, the additon of him turns the Rangers pitching from awful to very very bad. The Rangers aren't contenders anymore (well they never were but people get boners over their home run hitting) so it doesn't matter.

Felix Hernandez is the greatest pitcher in the history of the world

BCWWF
08-10-2005, 07:37 PM
The Twins are just awful too though. Its stupid because coming into this season, they were supposed to be the best team yet. Two ace pitchers, no real holes in the batting order, all that. Even into midseason they were standing strong, our record was better then last years up even until near the all-star break. The whole breakdown of this team was mental, the White Sox were so far ahead, everybody even here gave them wildcard at best chances, and confidence fizzled. Once Morneau cooled off it was basically over, and Johan was pretty much a choke after about a month into the season.

Thats not trying to give an excuse for Hernandez though, the Twins obviously still have a potent enough lineup to beat the average rookie pitcher, but he completely shut them down. He deserves the credit up to this point.

The Miz
08-10-2005, 07:44 PM
The Twins suck major penis, but there's nothing else to get excited about up here.

Felix = Bartolo Colon, except Felix is not a huge ugly bastard.

BCWWF
08-10-2005, 07:49 PM
The Twins have to buy a veteran for next year. Losing Corey Koskie shouldn't be that detremental, he was like a 270 hitter with 20 homers and 30 missed games. He was simply a locker room presence, but his absense seems to be the biggest reason for our collapse.

Jacque Jones is basically not coming back, plain and simple. He was going to be traded before last year until the outfield prospect who was to take his place ruined his knee for the year. Now he is going to walk as a free agent and Torii and Shannon will be the only players with experience. If we don't sign a good shortstop, thirdbaseman, or right fielder, things aren't going to get any better next year. Damn.

The Miz

Timlin is the closer for now.

Foulke had a simulated game, 2nd or 3rd pitch Trot Nixon hit, hit Foulke in the arm, he's ok and I think has another simulated game this week.

He doesn't want any rehab in the minors, but the Sox always send a pitcher their first of the DL. It's possible with him being a closer they won't.

I still think next year you'll see Foulke as a starter.

So spending millions of dollars on a huge bat so that your team can rot in the cellar is a good decision? You got me.

The Miz
08-21-2005, 12:38 PM
If the Kansas City Royals sign a huge bat this off-season, will they be a playoff contender? Rockies? Pirates?

The Mariners were very bad in 2004. Very, very bad. So bad that no matter who they brought in - even if it was Lee, Pujols, or ARod - they would still be very bad in 2005. This team lost 99 games last year, they will not lose that many this year. Had they not signed Sexson, they would've lost more.

The Mariners are not a team that was one piece away from being a contender. They were, and still are, several piece away from being a contender. Sexson was one piece and a step in the right direction. He is one of the premier power hitters in the AL and has met everyone's expectations.

If you hadn't noticed Seattle has the best pitching prospect in the game as well as a plethora of good young talent. Felix Hernandez, Mike Morse, Jeremy Reed, Jamal Strong and Yuni Betancourt all have bright futures. People love to rag Beltre but people forget he has played in the NL with the same organization since he was 16. He will never hit 48 homers again but he can still be very good. He is still only 26.

Sexson is the least of our problems.

The Miz
08-21-2005, 12:41 PM
I doubt they'll make the playoffs if their moron manager doesn't shift that lineup. Beane also needs to bring up Daric Barton and wipe Scott Hatteberg and Bobby Kielty from existence.

Strip his records, charge him with lying to congress, refund tickets to everyone who paid to see him break the record and while we're at it, take away his "little blue friend".

this new testing does punish players, but doesn't stop it, doesn't stop from Baltimore or other teams with guys on roids winning games to hurt teams like NYY and BOS.

There is a difference between a personal attack and an opionion.

In this case, it's an opinion. Every MLB player is being asked it, heck they asked Eck and Rice about it yesterday and Rice kinda poltely doged it, Eck took it. Basiclly he said the first "test" is about 2yrs when Mac comes up for vote and a it's going to be real uncomfortable if Mac gets voted it because the other HOF members wont be happy about it.

That all being said, what did Schilling say that was wrong? Raffy cheated, lied about it and then cheated again. Why not take away his records?

What, you mean the pitchers with the most wins isn't the best?

(yes, I'm agreeing with you).

A pitcher can throw 1 hit, 1 run games and if his team can't hit the ball he gets a loss. W/L isn't a good judge of who a good SP is.

ERA, K's, K/W ratio, ERA, Bavg-against... those are pitching stats.

WHIP
MB: 1.16
JS: 1.01

Batting average allowed
MB: .259
JS: .220

OPS allowed
MB: .650
JS: .612

Strikeout-to-walk ratio

You'd think this guy (schilling) did something to you personally.

He gave his opinion on a subject, a subject a lot of people are being asked about. Yeah, maybe calling him a "scumbag" was too far, maybe it wasn't, if that's how he feels, why not? See, I can't fault him for giving his opinion, simply because someone asked him the question.

Hero, the difference typically between athletes and actors is Actors release statements to give their opinions (See: Sean Penn) where an athlete 99% of the time is responding to question.

So, Miz, if no one cares, why do people ask? Why does ESPN/Fox/CNNSI etc, run these things nationally?

1) That was the point you jumped in. Hence that's why it seemed like that's what you were saying.

2) I'm not offended, you're just 100% wrong, this has NOTHING to do with it being schilling for me. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and if it had been Curt, Randy Johnson, or anyone I would be ok with it. Also since a player doesn't say something like that unless someone asks their opinion.

Heck, I even felt Randy Johnson was ok telling those reporters he didn't want to be photo graphed, however the way he did it was really stupid.

So BCWWF, my "defense of schilling" has very little to do with Schilling or being a "homer" has more to do with players answering questions and "Ralphie" being a scum bag.

So, ESPN "Outside the lines" talked today about Roids and the effects on Little League.

They had Dante Bichette and his kid, Dante talked how he knew who was on, as an athlete you could tell. He talked how from day one he would tell his son "that guy hit that home run because he's on steroids, I don't want you to ever do those" and his kid used to say "Daddy, is that man on Asteroids".

They show'd another kid, when the little leaguers did the "who their favorite player is" said "Ralphie" and did the whole finger point/quote from when Ralphie was in front of congress, the kids also said that wasn't his fav player.

Talked to another kid who last year would say Sosa but now Derek Lee, because between the corked bat and the roids aligations he doesn't trust his "hero".

Plus a kid who Giambi was his fav player.

Just found it interesting seeing how kids see it.

The question is, how will they feel in 5-10yrs when they have a college scout or a pro scout looking at them.

Hero and other Canadians who still think for some reason the AL rookie of the year is Gustavo Chacin, I'd like to hear why he is any better than fellow rookie Joe Blanton.

Chacin - 3.62 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, .270 BA against, 5.04 ERA in August
Blanton - 3.61 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, .238 BA against, 0.98 ERA in August

I am not defending Schilling to the grave here BCWWF haha - All I said was I don't think he is done, and I don't see the big deal about him calling Palmerio a scumbag.

All he did was go on WEEI, a radio station in Boston, and voice his opinion on Palmerio. I don't think he was really intrested who cared what he thought, the radio host asked him a question and he answered it. Now I can see where in other cases where Schilling has too much, or been too vocal or whatever. Not in this case though.

I think Schilling should probably worry about his pitching a little more and worry about Palmerieo a little less.

I think you should stick to "Colts Talk"

Schilling didn't wake up and say "I need to talk about Ralphie the Scum Bag"

If he did, think he would have waited?

No, someone asked him about it.

Really, you guys are acting like Schilling called a press confrence and release a statement, someone asked him a question, he answered.

Hero - You had a team, no one cared and they're now in Washington and their best players are on other teams.

Miz - You have a great team, until the pressure starts and then the choke.

RP - Wait... Indy? Who'se the AAA or AA team around there?

I would not be surprised at all if Schilling ended up hurting them more than helping them. He keeps saying he can pitch and well get better, but what if when the postseason starts he is still this ineffective? I doubt his problems stem from rustiness, I've seen some of his starts and he is not driving at all off his ankle. I hope this doesn't happen, not because I like the Red Sox but because I don't want to here his bitching and excuses all winter

With or without him, the Red Sox have arguably the worst pitching of any AL contender

Jesus Shuttlesworth
08-28-2005, 07:52 PM
How have you seen some of his starts though? He has only started that one game since like the start of the season. He shouldn't have even pitched at all at the start of the season. Personally I think they should have just left him in the bullpen or not used him at all and wait til he was back to 100%. That's not my decision though. I also said they should have benched Damon and Bellhorn in last years ALCS so maybe they know something I don't. He pitched fine in the 1st inning then started to break down so I think that shows the stamina is not there in his ankle at all.

The starting pitching hasn't been great but it hasn't been AWFUL either though, Wells pitched real nice today but Arroyo just flat out blew it yesterday so who knows? The Red Sox have the best offense in the majors so it will be intresting. Manny and Ortiz have a combined 230 RBIs

The Miz
08-28-2005, 08:18 PM
I was talking more about the bullpen but there starting is pretty weak. If they go all the way they're going to be winning alot of games 12-9. I don't think they have enough pitching and defense to do it this year, yeah they have a killer lineup but look what it has done for the Yanks the last 4 years.

I have the same concern, like most good pitchers they're so damn stubborn and want to help the team, they don't tell the coach when they can't go, and where he's "Francona boy", I dunno if Tito would give him the hook when he should.

He hasn't always had his fastball and his placement has been on/off.

The rest of the staff has been shakey. Wakefield will be good, and Wells has been on lately and I'm fairly comfortable with him in a big game. Clement has looked good, but I have no clue how he'll be with a big game on the line.

So, I'm confident in two of the starters. Only really takes 3 come playoff time.

The pen, Hopefully we get last years Foulke back, if not Timlin is fine, unless he's brought in with runners on base, he gets killed with runners on base.

I honestly wouldn't be suprised to see Pappelbon in the rotation come playoffs.

Defense isn't as good as last year and we've down a few bats (Kevin Millar), but Olerud still seems to be able to hit, the question is will the finally bench Millar.

So yeah, not as good as last year, but still good and a contender. If schilling turns it on, they'll be in much better shape.

That all being said, the White Sox have great pitching and thats what wins. But do they have enough bats so they don't loose 2-1?

VonErich Lives

When did the Mariners choke?

Didn't they have like the best regular season record and then get killed in the playoffs?

I seem to remember every time they hit the playoffs the team went to crap.

(and you didn't even think I knew who your "team" was) :)

The Miz
08-28-2005, 09:05 PM
Yeah they had the best regular season record, they were not the best team. 116 wins was a result of no injuries and having 9 guys who gave it their all 162 out of 162 times. It did not translate to postseason success and I didn't expect it too. And they did not get "killed"; they got blown out one game, blew the Yankees out one game, and the other 3 losses were by 1 or 2 runs, each of them was close from the 1st to the 9th. The Yankees were a better team that year and anyone with half a brain could see that. Regular season records are overrated, does anybody really think Chicago is going to win the World Series? If they lose in the ALCS, will it be achoke?

Actually Miz, I've stated not too long ago that Chacin has lost his place as the ROY, IMO because he hasn't won in 4-5-6 starts now. When you and I first talked about ROYs, Chacin was a front runner with an 11-4 record. Times have changed, I'm not blind about these things.
